I was bored this afternoon & my shoulder was bothering me too much to play so spent time browsing all the different sub-forums. I seen a lot of similarities in the ‘this class is the kitten’ or ‘this class is great for this but not for that’ type threads, so I wanted to put this out to all of you….

Q. In your opinion, what do you feel is the best profession to run DE Chains with (ex: Ones that start at point A and include several stages and end at Point D)….you may or may not be able to group.

I would really like to keep this constructive, hopefully everyone will respect others opinions and keep the flames to the those other posts in the sub-forums. I thought perhaps this would be a good thread for those that are fairly new to the game, if that makes sense….

Thief by far.
I can solo 100 mobs. Seriously.
Continue to combo DB, dodges(traited for caltrops and endurance gain) and stealths until things die of DoTs.
I also solo Champs with this.

Sure, one mistake and you die.
And you need great reaction times, low ping, high-end hardware.

Rangers because all the bots do it.

@Red Falcon… Not sure if you are being serious or sarcastic….

Warrior simply has the tools to cover any needs you can have in game
There’s a weapon/skill for any occasion on this class
Any type of event or other situation the warrior has the best or close to the best tool for it
Aoe, damage, survivability, mobility, support, tank, range, melee, anything can be done by war

@Kesarai,

Red Falcon is certainly not trolling. Specced right and doing the right abilities, going ranged if necessary, kiting, jumping back in to large packs, it’s not often you’ll go low health, and if you do, you’ll rally every other second, and stuff just drops.

@Fiennes,

With Red Falcon I had said I wasn’t sure if he was being serious or sarcastic. I’ve not played a thief yet, nor a warrior either. It was kKagari that I had said was trolling

Anyways, I appreciate both you and Snow Aeth explaining why these two professions would be good with DE’s. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I know of the two that I have run DE’s with, a Ranger & an Elementalist, my Elem seems to do better because of her staff AOE’s.

That class with which you derive the most pleasure in playing.

I have tried all the classes out and not a one was incapable of participating in DEs.

If you only derive pleasure from maximizing drops I’m sure others will have input along those lines.

@Ferguson…. +1 to you in your statement “That class with which you derive the most pleasure in playing”. So very true

I play my Ranger (80) and leveling my Elem (just hit 50 yesterday) which is why I referred to them in my post. Today however, I am taking a break from both and playing with my Engineer.

Love the mix/max’ers

Pro tip, play what the bots play (ie rangers)… Seems that is what you are shooting for here.

Eng with nade kit, imo. Gonna break your 1 button but it might help you tag mobs better.

Anyone still claiming thief is not OP?
I’ve actually seen a thief do that. Not 100 mobs but a heck of a lot more than my ranger could handle.
I’ll grant that it’s not just thief OPness that makes it possible, it does require player skill.

Rangers because all the bots do it.

Only because bots are stupid and ranger is pretty easy.
Then again almost any class is easy enough for bots in a group of 4 or 5. Many bots are guardian or warrior.

You probably won’t see many mesmer bots, but mesmer might work well for DE farming because it has instant cast aoe. Not a whole lot of damage (though decent) but sure to tag the mobs before they die.

You can do the same with an Ele, Ranger and Warrior, Thief is just less likely to die due to stealth.
If you think the Thief is OP try looking at your armor rating and your anti-burst skills please.
It’s getting more ridiculous than the hundred blade complaints.

I do quite fine with a Warrior using a greatsword. Raw damage works great as far as tagging mobs go.

But during the Beta Weekends, I’ve used a Guardian with a Staff and spammed 1 to tag all the mobs I could see with almost no effort (since their slot 1 attack is a wide frontal cone AoE). I thought it was hilarious at the time.

If you’re objective is not loot but just to finish the chain, I would say just about any profession with a viable build as long you know how to stay alive and support whomever is around you.

for DEs with large groups, Engineer.

They can drop down turrets on one end and spam AOEs on another.

I’m pretty sure soloing 100 mobs – not 100 rabbits but lvl 80 risen – is extraordinary and not intended by Anet. Who needs groups when you can do that.

Other than that, i bow to your mmo-superiority, so spare me please.

I have to go with Ranger.

I’ve been leveling a traps Ranger with Longbow/Greatsword and I’ve never leveled off of DEs so quickly.

Add the healing well and the regen signet and you’re practically unstoppable. I usually end up being the one ‘tanking’ Champion mobs in events.

I’m not level 80 yet, so it could all change here shortly, but I’ve had a much easier time with the Ranger than any other class so far.

For pure enjoyment, though, gotta go with Engineer. I run with four kits and love the feeling of having 32-ish skills at my fingertips (weapon+kit+toolbet+kit refinement skills), most of which are AoEs of some sort.

The Long Road
Goal: To have one character of every race, gender, and armor class combination at level 80.
Current progress: Human 4/6 | Charr 1/6 | Norn 1/6 | Sylvari 1/6 | Asura 1/6 | Total: 8/30

Am I the only one that likes power necro for DE tagging? The Axe 3 ability tags quite a few mobs, as does a ground targetted Well of Suffering and the DS 4. Focus also has a bounce skill and staff auto attack pierces. It is by far the easiest time I’ve ever had tagging things.

Disclaimer: He’s new, so he’s not 80 yet, I don’t know how it will change later on.
