Self healing crit based guardian. Nothing beats that while solo. For weapons GS as main and choose second as you wish (I would go scepter +focus/shield/torch).

I play all 8 classes and Warrior is easily the one that can tear through PvE with the least effort/thought put into it.

Every class can be used to solo, but for easy mindless tearing through things, go Warrior. Warrior is very bad at healing and getting rid of conditions but can tear through groups before healing becomes an issue, usually.

You didn’t play Ranger properly if you think Warrior is a better solo PvE class. There is nothing in this game that can touch a Ranger for solo PvE leveling.

If you have to “play Ranger properly” to be efficient in PVE, then ranger is not the best class for soloing. Take a warrior, hit the keyboard with your head, tadaam you’re 80 and you face 0 problem during your progression. A mastered Ranger may be better than a warrior for soloing, but out of the box, warrior is, by far, better, faster, stronger.

On the other hands, my vote would go for either guardian or warrior. I had 0 difficulties reaching 80 with my guardian, and it was pretty kitten fast.

The single best solo profession is signet ranger. Keep following in mind:

- Pet swap cooldown is 20 seconds, hit it on recharge for a free heal.

- Pet swap for dead pet is 60 seconds. Avoid at all costs.

- Play with the agressive/defensive toggle to manage agro.

My main has been a ranger since game launch, she has 100% world, and only has to do Arah for the final PS bit, all done solo using longbow/greatsword. Lots of fun, great for PvE, passable in dungeons.

I made my first alt in January, a guardian. What the guardian has shown me is how the ranger class is so poorly designed and broken. In a way, I am glad because playing the ranger for so long made me a better player. I had to overcome not only the PvE mobs but all the bad class mechanics in the process.

Now, my guardian does all the heavy lifting and farming in Orr and dungeons, while my ranger does the easy daily bits, some world events, and generally kicks the snow in Frostgorge. I suppose she has earned her ‘retirement’, at least until anet gets around to fulfilling the long promised fixes the class so desperately needs.

I am playing a different game than a lot of people. Ranger is easy to solo, you want aoe go with double axes. I leveled up to 60 with shortbow and a combination of gs, sword and off-hand axe. I now run longbow and double axe. I can take 6 mobs if I am dumb enough to pull them instead of picking them off in small chunks. It is not my dumb pet that pulls them if I place myself correctly. If the pet is at a distance and pulls aggro switch it out and the aggro with be gone in most cases.
Next people saying mesmer cannot do a lot of damage and are slow to level. Took my ele and mesmer to 80 without doing any dungeons or any crafting for lots of exp. They both levelled easily and fast. I have come to really love mesmer gs and sword/pistol. The mesmer was to me the easiest to level, easier than my guard to get to 80. I am about 99% solo play.

I’ve leveled every class to 80, and most more than once…or twice. I’ve run a multitude of builds, and even more back in beta.

If all you’re looking to do is solo to 80, anything works (except maybe a minion necro…but that’s cuz minions don’t work). In fact, solo gives you more option than a team based build because that huge mega kitten of a problem with condition builds doesn’t matter since a single player can’t hit the condition cap by themselves (not even doing the afflicted, krait, centuar runes with earth and/or bleed duration sigils in two weapons).

So honestly, pick something that sounds like the way you like to play. Do you like just wading in and beating the kitten out of stuff? Play a warrior or a DPS guardian. Do you like knowing your invincible versus most mobs? Play a bunker guardian or necro. Do you like knowing you’re one badly timed dodge from being dead while at the same time inflicting much whining in WvW? Play a thief. Do you maybe want to be able to change drastically on the fly? Play a elly or engy.

For levelling I tend to agree. My Ranger hit 50 in the time it took for my Warrior to hit 30. Part of that is experience. More of that is effectiveness and adaptability. The claims re: lack of AOE seem bizarre to me what with the bows and traps and so on – whilst levelling you are rarely fighting more than 3-4 mobs, and AOE can’t hit more than 5 so that’s really the limit you will be hitting anyway. I’ve had tons of success taking on groups of 8+ centaurs (to the point where it’s routine), and generally seem to be highly survivable and effective.

I would recommend against a glass-cannon and/or pet-unfriendly build, for levelling, though. I bet that’s what most people who dislike Rangers were going with. A more survivable build including points in the pet line saw me go from being slightly irked with my Ranger (they were swift but annoying) to really enjoying them.

Also, for god’s sake, if you pet is low on health, and you aren’t casting a heal, swap them and get the 20s cooldown instead of the 60s one! Seems like a lot of people just really really don’t like swapping pets.

As for “try hard” nonsense, Ranger does take more thought and effort than a hundred-blades signet warrior, but so does every spec and class, and most of them are more rewarding and have higher skill caps too.

I hope its the right section of the forum to put this on. Anyways, my main is lvl 73 ranger and i want to get lvl 80, full gear and complete more of the world.

But after that i want to start playing a different class. I found ranger unsuitable for playing alone and overall kinda weak. It’s only good against single targets and has no survivability. I play alone most of the time and i want to pick a class that is the best for playing solo.

I though about either warrior or guardian. If you know any other class that’s good without anyone helping it then i would appreciate if you told me about it.

Warrior is your choice, you got high burst dps with a high health pool, sweet revenge in case you go down you just get back up and kill something real quick and keep going. Not to mention the great mobility. Grab a Greatsword/Sword+warhorn and clear maps faster than you ever will with any other class.

Guardian is good too but the damage is not as much, and the speed options are limited to staff which does not so great damage. They are a better class to carry people in dungeons though but I don’t think that’s the interest in your post.

Cons of a warrior though is that everyone and their mom plays one.

Er, Ardenwolfe, the OP is the one claiming Ranger is crummy for soloing. It’s not that people are telling him it is. He’s claiming it. Whereas in fact I think it’s fairly safe to say he’s not playing it very well (to be fair, it’s not the easiest class to play) and/or has a build that is highly unsuitable to him.

I guess on that basis maybe Warrior is the way for him to go, because you can see very high levels of success with relatively simple (I won’t say easy or whatever, but very straightforward and simple) play, and the builds are almost painfully obvious for Warrior where other classes may require some thought.

Only classes I wouldn’t recommend for soloing really are Mesmers and Thieves. The rest are quite easy. Even Mesmers and Thieves get easier once you get some levels behind you.

Guardian, Warrior, and Ranger are probably the 3 easiest though. Guardian would be the most useful of the 3 at 80. Warrior a distant second (PvE only, bottom tier in PvP). Ranger a distant 8th out of 8 classes.

I don’t think this is very meaningful. If we’re talking about true solo here, which basically means running around outdoors doing DEs, that’s all such trivially easy content you might as well just play whatever seems fun.

It’s like talking about which rocket launcher is most effective for killing squirrels in your backyard.

If we’re talking “Which toon should I select to farm the most loot in the shortest amount of time outdoors at 80?” then I give Warrior the nod, where ranger pet tanking isn’t meaningful as you aren’t in danger just tanking the stuff yourself anyway.

’Don’t let ‘em tell you otherwise’ means don’t think otherwise. It isn’t directed at the OP nor the people who responded specifically. It’s directed at those who read the topic to see the answer since this thread will eventually be searched when others ask the question posed.

That’s why I say it’s ranger, don’t let ‘em tell you otherwise. The answer’s directed to those players despite the OP’s claims.

Hope that clarifies.

I have one of each profession. All are solo-able. Engineer was probably the most difficult to solo, but was also my 3rd lvl 80 and one of the most fun to play.

Ranger was the easiest. Elementalist is a lot of fun.

Choose the one that best fits you. But you can solo with any of them.
