Hello all, i have playing with a skill builder lately and was about to go for 30% boon duration true runes. That takes up 4 rune slots.

But when i started to look what that gave me, i started to strugle if it was worth it.

“Stand Your Ground”
5, 1/4 sec stability
5, 1/4 sec Retaliation

With the boon duration runes
6, 3/4 sec on both boons instead of 5, 1/4 sec.

Here is my build, i plan on playing with alot of boons both to my self and my team, but 4 rune slots for 1,5 sec longer boons seems abit to low for me.

What do you guys think?

It’s totally worth it if you have a build and playstyle that emphasizes boons. In fact, there are some builds coupled with runes and such that allow you to have 100% uptime on some boons. Awesome.

I actually run one of the builds Omega mentions. Here’s the build I’m currently running:

This setup gives me permanent swiftness through Retreat and SY, which is amazing for getting from point A to point B quickly in PvE and WvW. I end up with +60% overall boon duration, with an extra 25% for retaliation and 20% for might (both of which I get in spades). It’s rare that I drop below 5 boons in-combat, not counting stacking boons such as might.

^Your link is broken. For me anyway.

Though boon duration stacking is iffy in WvW due to the fact that certain sigils remove boons on crit. You would be kittening yourself against people with crit and fast attacks. Not to mention certain classes can steal boons off of you.

I did try a Boon duration warrior. Its lol easy to get perma fury

Here’s the thing though: I’ve read somewhere on this forum, from people doing extensive research boon duration stack in multiplicative manner. The editor you use seems to do it by addition. Which is still better than the in game tooltip which doesn’t take into account your armor at all <_<.

I have been wondering this myself. For many classes boon durations are really short. I mean really really short. So adding 5% to 2 or 3 seconds seems a bit underwhelming, no?

It is a pretty common sense answer, so I don’t expect many people to know.

If you have a build that has lots of boons, or revolves around maintaining certain boons, then having +boon duration is going to be beneficial.

If you have a build that does not have many boons, or doesn’t really require them, then +boon duration will not be worth the sacrifice of something else.

With +boon duration, it is entirely possible to make builds that have 100% uptime on several boons, whether they be fury, protection, retaliation, swiftness etc.

For example, I was just playing around with my sPvP only Engineer character for giggles, and stacked +60% Might duration runes on, picked up the might w/ flamethrower and it gave me perma stack of 9 might. Or earlier, I tried similar with a warrior in sPvP where I used a greatsword with the 30% on crit might sigil, might on crit trait, and +60% might duration runes, and 30% boon duration traits and was rolling around with a near-perma 25 stack of might. (100 blades was doing like 17-18k on the HEAVY dummies, lol)

But again, it is all about your build, and if you need those extra seconds of boon time.

Why grind dungeons? Only relevant content…
Why? Gives needed gear…
Why do you need this gear? To do dungeons… duh.
