And Evanlysis, I really love the pigtails and that first style you have.

Hmm, so with mossy hairs off of the table, I had to come up with a new style for my necromancer. So I did more sketches. I came up with pitcher plant and venus fly trap styles for her. Although, before the redesign Caithe had sort of a mossy hair style and so I’m curious what happened with that.

The willow style was one I’ve had for a while but thinking about the restrictions, I don’t think it would work. However, it did have one thing I haven’t seen brought up yet, which is braided wood. As people can braid trees in real life I thought it would be neat to use in branch hair styles to help take up space so they didn’t feel bald.

Also I really really want a branch style that feels like a mix between a wind swept tree and antlers. I can’t help but think about the sylvari personal story about the pale stag, and wonder how cool it would look with a stark white sylvari with this asymmetrical antler style next to the stag.

@Murke – Those are some very interesting concepts of hairstyle! I absolute adore the pitcher plant-like buns and venus flytrap ones! Beautiful!

Like a lot of people have said already, I’d love to see flowers in male & female!
As for the face thing, I like how they are in between, but some of them look too human?? Specially female faces..

I would love to see wooden antlers (for male and female) a la Green Man or Druids! The actual hair would be oak leaves with acorns here and there. Being able to modify the position/size of the horns much like the Charr would be ideal, but obviously may not be doable with a hairstyle.

In regards to another type of leaf that I feel would look nice as a long hair, would be the Elephant Ear plant.

These leaves would be layered one upon another in a cascading effect. Simulating long, layered hair. Preferraby not in a pony tail. Just flowing freely behind the character.

I’m quite fond of Scarlet’s hairstyle now that we’ve seen it. I don’t suppose there’s any hope of getting it as a playable hairstyle? Or would that fall under the “important NPCs get unique looks the player can’t copy” category?

I’m liking the asymmetrical ideas a lot since there are so few of them in game.

I really, really think that male sylvari have a huge lack of long and elegant(?) hairstyles, so I decided to doodle some for fun.

I absolutely love the design you have for longer male hairstyles! This is exactly what I was talking about, and some of these styles can be shared by both genders.

My mouth is drooling, we need some of these styles !

This might be low priority but could there be a couple more mushroom hair styles? I would love some that’s even a bit bigger and exotic looking.

I will forever be in fear of being called “kitten head” though. =p

Past the hips is quite a bit longer than any of the other in-game styles though (as far as I know, I’ve never seen anything longer than like a braid that goes above mid back on humans and the long ponytail on sylvari, but I’m more of a charr expert sooo I might be wrong), which means you’d have to not only deal with it clipping stuff like collars/shoulders, but if you wear ANYTHING that sticks out from your back or even a coat like the medium armor ones it would be pretty bad….

I agree that it would be nice but the issues that would come with it would be worse than the charr tail clipping. If Anet did create it they would probably have to put up a statement saying they wouldn’t be able to fix all the problems with it XD

Can we have bonsai styled hairs? I’d love to have maple leaves, or a juniper cascade ponytail.

One thing I like to see is maybe same type of leaves, but different styles of hair does for the Sylvari race. They are after all a curious race and they would begin to experiment in looks immediately upon encounter other races.

Of course seeing new type of flowery type of hairstyles would be interesting too, much like seeing and discovering new plant life day in and day out. Why not take an time out and explorer the world of plants to get some inspirations for new styles for the Sylvari race.

Murke, you have a gift for hair design! I love everything you’ve proposed. One standout feature is that they don’t hide the eyes. It grates on me in cutscenes when I can’t see my sylvari’s face because of the leaves. I actually redid her hair to a swept-back do just to get rid of that issue.

One idea I haven’t seen in these pages is a tangled mess of vines draped over branches. That could get a moving “hair” look while being very plant-like.

I do hope a way is found around the graphics limitations to let us have cascades of blossoms, though. And that glow can be added to all existing hairstyles; I weep that my necromancer’s spray of leaves never shines, but none of the other styles fit her personality half so well.

Major disclaimer: no promises, no schedule, etc… But if you were daydreaming about what you personally want for your sylvari, what would it be? :} What would its presence feel like? What style? What materials?

My main sylvari has branch hair, and when I noticed that female sylvari get longer and more flowing branches, I felt a pang of jealousy, haha. They look more streamlined and nice. I really would like something like that, or something sort of akin to the T3 heavy oaken helm with leaves, so there’s more branch variety. And while I do have that helm on my warrior, I can’t exactly wear it on my engie main.

Long hair for males also, it’d look great on either my necro or mesmer.

Also, a few faces have built in “facial hair” and other odd little things – my warrior uses the very human, smooth face with the beard. My engineer, meanwhile, has thorns growing out of his cheeks, and my mesmer appears to have pistils growing from his brows. If these could be optional additions with more selections, that would be awesome. Like different beard type growths, thorns, ridges, petals, etc. There are a few faces I don’t like that I otherwise really would if small things like that could be tweaked the way Norn facial hair can. The odd mustache on the Canach Face is a good example.

And to go even more off the wall, more vibrant secondary skin colors would be immensely appreciated. I was going to make my engie’s secondary color pale pink over white bark, but instead he’s stuck with a dull, dark maroon..

Also if you were the one who handled the design of Trahearne, can you possibly share some thoughts on that, maybe? I have a few issues with him writing-wise but I think his design is absolutely excellent and perfect for a sort of reclusive scholar of a necromancer.

The hair of the first one blows everything out of the water Sylvari have currently.

And talking about the Sylvari redesign, if we’re still going with the whole youthfulness business for the race why is there not a single actually youthful face for both genders, like the 4th one from before the redesign? Most faces look like they’d most fit a 40 year old in human terms.

I was so happy that I fell out of my chair when I saw her palm tree hair sketch! LOVE THAT PALM TREE HAIR! Would buy a makeover kit and use that hair in an INSTANT.

Can’t wait to get more hairstyles. Have had a hard time settling for the perfect style for my main. Definitely wont be that fern hair though, it is nice, but really not me.

Blue grass hair. Hah. Good one. Wonder if they could get the density required while keeping movement to make sure it doesn’t look like astroturf.

I was goofing around checking out the character customization options the other day and I realized something about all the Sylvari leaf hairstyles…

They’re all smooth leaves with a singular oval shape. There are no leaves with jagged edges (something like a Dandelion leaf) and no leaves that “branch off” on the sides to form different shapes (like Maple Leaves).

Don’t know if there’s a technical reason behind that or if its just an oversight, but I’d like to see some leaves with different shapes in future hairstyles if possible.

First, I’d love to have stylish lose long hair options with flowing movement and some flower accessories or even some pony tail, buns or more intricate arrangements. The current styles almost always use the same materials and are very static. Maybe add some movement to it and some new materials to revamp them? There are already some very good ideas in this thread but would be nice to see vines, grass, different shapes of leaves, weeping willow and some flowers, fruits or nuts accessories maybe.

For the faces I think we have enough in between faces so people that wants that kind of faces are happy, but for those who wants beautiful or ugly they can never have it, but have to compromise one way or another. So I think more extremes would be wise to add to the game. I would personality love a very beautiful one to go with my long hair and flower accessories…

Here are some tweaks that I’d like to see as well.
If you don’t plan in making more Sylvari specific armor please at least fix the stretching issue with armors other than cultural. The legs in particular always look really huge even on the smaller body type which isn’t really my favorite anyway. Even the Twilight Arbor armor doesn’t stretch properly. Which leaves most Sylvari to choose between 3 sets (9 if you count all the different types), and so we all look the same.

Next, Sylvari big eyes. Ok I get that they are child like because they are only been in Tyria for 25 years at most, but on some faces when they go idle, their eyes get so big it’s silly. I had to make one of my Sylvari’s eyes the smallest possible because I just couldn’t bare it anymore. So please just make the big eye animation smaller would be great.

I would love to see some human/norn hairstyles with curly hair. I don’t mean wavy. I mean curly, puffy, ringlets of CURLS. I’ve never seen my massive amount of curly hair represented in a game, and always have to resign myself to picking out the slightly wavy, nearly straight women’s hair. ArenaNet, please, be the game to represent my crazy curls.

I think it would’nt be too hard to put in by default, so when someone starts a new char, he can get it…

Since I used my Instant Makeover kit a while back and I’m not yet going to buy another just to preview the new hairstyles, can anyone confirm if the new face Kristen previewed in the twitch stream is live as well as the hair?
