I think it would be better to just have a “Dev Opinion” thread sticky’d at the top of each subforum. There, they can link to specific threads in which they have thoughts of and keep it organized.

For example, in a profession subforum there could be links and thoughts to several issues said profession faces. This way, we could see what the devs are thinking about our profession, and other professions too, without searching through each thread to find them. It would help show their presence more effectively.

edit: Not sure if this is the overall suggestion though, OP said in each major thread but it sounds more like he’s talking about subforums.

I’m waiting for my first child to be born next month

Then why are you posting here? In the months after the birth you will not have time to play GW2.

Just kidding.^^ I wish you and your new family the best.

It’s a good point, indeed. (and thanks!)

In the next months (year, maybe years), my interaction with the game will be basically to read things here or in the occasional article found in any gaming website, probably in the train in my way to home, or in the lunch time if things are getting quiet and boring at work.

Active playing (to any game) will be reduced to the minimum needed to help me distracting my mind for a short periods of time, unless we found that my daughter sleeps better (and quickly!) if there are cute Asurans jumping around in the screen.

Some communication can help people in this same situation to not feel totally disconnected to the community/game, I certainly will like to known what’s happening in the game, or around the game, or in the near future of the game.

Stuff like “we will add Cantha this night!” will be less exciting than “We are working in Cantha, check this early artwork!”, the less exciting will be to be checking the forums after some months of cleaning baby stuff and see a topic saying “what was the worst part of the Cantha Update past month?”

If “major thread” is equal to subforum, then yes, the opening post has much more sense (to me). I was wondering what that major thread could be.

I would like to preface the following post with a desire for a feedback phase of development. It should happen after the devs are comfortable with releasing something, but before implementation is a guarantee. A lot of communication issues in the past have arisen from that very thing. You all tell us, “When it’s ready” and then release something that totally wasn’t ready to be put in the game and then we as players have to deal with the fallout of that in game and on the forums.

My issues with the way communication stands currently are as follows:

There are certain features, QoL upgrades, and content among other things that have been asked for en masse by the player base that have not been implemented yet. Things the community didn’t ever ask for have been implemented. This has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Does it mean they can get rude or spiteful about it? Heck no, but being disgruntled about it is understandable.

In the interest of open communication and the precedent that has been set, it’s hard to remain optimistic that the very specific things the community has asked for en masse keep getting pushed back by the dev team in favor of things that we never asked for.

I don’t want to boil communication down to “community asks for stuff and the dev team complies”. That is asinine. It is also asinine to tell the community nothing about what is being developed until it is close to being in the game when it is too late to get impact-worthy feedback from the community about it.

A good example would be yesterday’s news of dungeon ownership changes. Community members immediately noticed issues that would arise stemming from player abuse. It’s also too late in the process for any of us to contribute shaping how it works because it’s already done and it has flaws that the player base is just going to have to deal with.

“*_Ryan Diederich had this to say, “I actually agree with you. I would have liked to increase the vote count a majority with this change, but unfortunately not all the pieces of code around party votes are set up in a way to make this a quick and easy change.
We were aware of the possible issues with the instance ownership change, but felt that holding back an improvement to the base experience on account of trolls was unfair to users that are playing nice.
Stealing instances using the LFG tool, or booting people for no reason (or to give your buddy the rewards for no work) at the end of a run are bannable offenses and should be reported._*” https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Dungeon-Instance-Owner-change-FTW/first

That just feels like swapping issues with other issues and kinda goes with what I was saying at the outset of my post. I feel like there is a better way to talk and implement both from a developer side and player side. For what it’s worth, I feel like both sides are doing a poor job, but I am glad that both sides are willing to work harder to make this thing succeed.

On the original suggestion, because I haven’t read the whole thread….
I like the idea, but I worry that you might forget to come back to make updates, get wrapped up in something more important, or just not realize that you might be making a time commitment here that you aren’t expecting. Even if you explicitly state that having the spot reserved is not a promise that it will be maintained, that might be forgotten by the community at large a few months down the road.

More information and communication can never be a bad thing. Just lock it so no one can post in it.

Colin, I think it won’t hurt to try it, even the ones who don’t like the idea can probably be convinced if it turns out to be well made. It’s certainly better than moving on the way it is now.
