Bring Back Guild Capes!
Abso-bloody-lutely second that!
17 level 80 characters, all races, all professions.
Thanks Titan. I hope other people are up for this… I really want to add a guild cape to my Warrior who is wearing T3 cultural armour, so he will look a little more like Logan… Who has a cape!
I don’t think it should be a gem store item, since it’s a “guild” cape..ie cape that has a unique symbol that the guild itself creates.
As long as you can hide them on certain characters, then i don’t have a problem with them.

Well it’s the same sort of system as the kites I guess:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Kite
You get the Kite from the Gemstore (or the Living story event, if you were lucky enough to obtain one that way) and then speak to the NPC to convert it into a Guild Kite.
I’d also settle for that same system!
Yea but just imagine the clipping…

Sea of Sorrows, a server never before so appropriately named.
I see capes clipping through my Charr’s torso every time he runs.
Wasn’t the problem with the Charr and how they moved? There were posts saying that it was a problem with clipping with their 4 legged running animation.
I really hope they will put capes in the game.
This is like the only thing my main is missing atm

This is one of those things that didn’t make the transition into Guild Wars 2 from Guild Wars 1 that I never really understood. I thoroughly enjoyed having my cape.
Geno Bishou (Elementist) | Suki The Huntress (Ranger) | Geno The Unknown (Thief)
Yea but just imagine the clipping…
True, but that’s not for us to worry about. All we want is capes being added into the game… It’s for ANet to make sure they transition correctly on races. I have every trust in their capability to make it work correctly and look amazing!

Waaaaayy back when the first posts came out asking for capes, over a year ago now, there was an post by a Dev saying that there were problems with capes but people were working on them in their spare time as this was something those people cared greatly about. If after all this time the problems haven’t been fixed either they are essentially unfixable or no one in ANet cares about capes any more. Either way, it looks like capes are not in the game’s future and they went with backpacks and the guild banners instead.
Capes cover my armor, inconvenient.
That we don’t hear anything about the capes doesn’t mean that capes are unfixable or that they don’t care anymore.

i myself prolly would never use a cape but yea.. they are missing in the game. And while you are at it a-net.. make a “toy” guild banner that you can carry to battle like a warrior banner
Capes cover my armor, inconvenient.
Lol… Don’t get one then! I’m suggesting adding them as a backpiece. So just stick with whatever you prefer.
I see capes clipping through my Charr’s torso every time he runs.
Solution is super simple.
Just race-restrict certain cape items, similar to cultural armor.
Normal capes and cloaks -> Human
Plant wings, vine cloaks -> Sylvari
Fur cloaks -> Norn
Technogizmo -> Asura
Samuraibanners -> Charr

Hmmm… Possibly, or ANet could just design it to display differently on different races… EXACTLY the same way that outfits work… and armour for that matter.
If ANet actually discussed with us, what the issue is, i’m sure someone will come up with an idea to make it work!

No. None of the current back items cover my body, why start.

Because the world doesn’t revolve around you! Sorry to be a bit aggressive, but you’re not really contributing in a constructive way. You made your point, “You wouldn’t get one” leave it at that please.
I’ll pay 1600 gems for that. RL cash too, not conversion. GIMME A CAPE

You asked what I thought, and I explained. You have no solution to their obtrusive original design? If I’ve come to a thread not welcome of critique and solely for praise, perhaps you should have made that clear.

Yes, You don’t want one! Thanks for the input!
Yeah, capes should really be implemented, they are part of GW universe.
But not in the gem store… I’m okay with a couple of premium capes, but most of them should be obtainable ingame.
ANet can neither confirm nor deny at this time whether or not they are currently working on guild capes.

Well, even if they would be greatly appreciated, capes are not a major feature. Giving us an update on their development wouldn’t hurt anyone.
Someone should ask devs about capes at PAX.

ANet obviously believes otherwise.

Sadly, (and this is just my understanding, it may be true it may be slander/taunting) If any new skin suggestion are to be even glanced at by ANet it will only be if they are a Gemstore item… Which is sad, but I would pay.
Even if it’s a simple case of: Purchase the cape blueprint from the Gemstore and then take it to an NPC who will allow you to create a design for it (like in GW1).
Man, I hope that some dev will see this topic and wrights it up on some notebook or something.
Capes is one of these things that I think allot of people want.
Would be cool if some dev responded on this.
I hope they see us between al these hateration/crying/ragequit topics xD

I’d be happy if a dev just commented “Acknowledged” at least that would be confirmation that the post has been seen lol.
I’m sorry, I’m somewhat with miss Edna Mode on this one . . .
Just refreshing this topic as there is a large scale of complaining for every breath ANet takes. Just wanna get this topic back on the first page.
Bumping threads is kind of against the forum rules. Also, I still agree with Edna Mode.
. . . mostly because I think asura would trip on the hems and facepla-
Nevermind. Capes for everyone, especially asura.
As I’m trying to keep all cape stuff in this thread so’s not to dilute the topic. I’ll reply to this one here:
Capes are not exactly pratical combat attire… But then neither is a quaggan plushie.
^this is so true.
If capes became backpieces, how would shields and weapons stowed on the back interact with said capes?
Should the shields and weapons ‘float’ above the cape? Should the cape be static so it would not interfere with said ‘floating’ weapons? Should the cape cover the weapons/shields? Let them clip massively?
How would you, as a designer, solve these issues?
^also this.
As a designer I’d say there are 2 obvious ways to do this:
1. Have weapons/shields appear OVER the cape.
2. Have them work in the same way as large backpieces do. I’ve got a nooby charr that has the starter (engi) Back pack. I’ve equipped a shield to him to see how that works.
See the images below, but basically when the shield is stowed the backpiece simply vanishes and the shield becomes the priority.
Either way would work I guess, but I’d prefer it is the cape stayed visible at all time. (My main is an Ele so it doesn’t really affect me).
I hated the capes and do not want them back. I’d rather have development resourses be spent on something useful.

Which is a fair comment. However I will take this opportunity to point out certain thinks that ANet have released that no-one asked for and I seldom see people wearing:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Plush_Quaggan_Backpack_Cover
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fuzzy_Quaggan_Hat
Now I mean no disrespect to ANet. But we have seen quite a lot of designs added for these 2 gemstore skins. So I put to you: What’s the first thing you would do, having spent time asking for Capes, if Anet then released another Charr/Quaggan backpack skin… I wouldn’t rage, but I’d be somewhat annoyed. I didn’t care for them on day 1, i still don’t care for them.
So I don’t buy them. Much like with a cape, people who don’t want them, won’t buy them. But there is Clearly a demand for them, so All i ask is next time ANet thin of adding in a new Plush Skin… please dedicate the time towards adding Capes instead.
:)

I see but capes have different physics like the fuild, i believe the problem would be on movement.
Try to grab a http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/King%27s_Remembrance , and try to jump several times you will see the papers streching like rubber, and will clip with character legs.
This is what i believe it would happen if we had capes at this point, would not be eye-candy, and collision detection is far beyond gw2 tech, if we had a good amount of it game would run at lower FPS.

The difference is that the hat and the quaggan backpacks are just skins to be applied to existing items. Capes have to be programmed from scratch as a completely new item. I do not see any use for them, appart from GW1 nostalgia.
There is, however a way to get around this quite easily. Make a set of new guild armors, that have a cape built into the chest piece.
Again, I do not understand that need to show which guild you belong to.
Yea but just imagine the clipping…
Clipping will be an issue, if the cape is not given proper collision detection settings.
GW1 had collision detection on the torso and head only, which caused the cape to clip with armor and limbs.
For Charr, proper collision detection is required, especially when running.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

How about the contrary? How about the shield being invisible and appear only in combat and having the cape visible all the time?
I think it would be a good solution.
guys, can u guys imagine the collision system working on a event or in wvw (reset night mostly).
FPS drops, culling etc, i imagine more objets with those validation game would suffer, for some reason they have armors with loads of clipping issues, less stuff to read.

1. Devs are improving the Megaserver technology, we can’t be sure of how many informations it can handle.
2. In WvW when there are too many characters, some of them are replaced by standard models. They could use this solution. If cape animations are too much to handle, they could disappear momentarily.

Perhaps this is what is taking them so long to release a cape? Perhaps they ARE building capes, but getting the whole physics of it right is important to them and taking them a while alongside other tasks.
