Captain's Airship Feedback
My girl also hates when I craft there because those pipes. I barely mind them, but, for the same reason, I don’t think them are really necesary.

Have you tried going into the In-Game Options → Sound Options and turning down the Environmental Sounds? I just checked to see what that did and it got rid of the steam pipe sound by dragging the bar to the left.

That may work but it’s a kludge and doesn’t address the core issue that frequently used areas should NOT have repetitive violets… I mean, sounds. It’s not right that we have to adjust our interface to the game because life is a trial—I mean, because anet refuses to address the issue that mordemoth can attack the pale tree in the grove..uh, the issue that repetitive sound effects near frequently used facilities can drive a person to establish their prominence.. darn it. I mean, I saw your face in a dream. No, I mean they can drive mordremoth to attack anywhere! AAAAARRRGGHH!!!

Those sounds are positional – if you rotate your camera position you can affect the amplitude of those sounds. I have that problem standing at the bank, and rotating my position can significantly reduce that sound.
Regardless, I eventually bought the terrace pass in part because I hated the design of that ship, including the sounds

I know I could get rid of it that way, but it’s not a solution. Muting environmental sounds would affect the whole game, only to isolate a single issue that shouldn’t be there in the first place. Nobody in their right mind would enjoy some guy hissing in their ear, let alone for several minutes.
Ok, it’s not the end of the world, but it’s annoying, and it’s “intended” since it’s not a bug, somebody put it there. An acceptable compromise would be making it a short loop and have it play every few minutes.
Just not all the time, please.

Again, it’s a workaround, not a solution.
Appreciate all your responses, hopefully somebody above will aknowledge the issue.

That..was beautiful. +1
As for the airship sounds, my first reaction was “GW2 has sound?”, but overall, yes, the pipe hissing can be annoying and generally reminds me of why I keep sound off in GW2. There is far to much repetition in the audio area of the game.
I prefer the airship to the Royal Terrace so I use it more frequently. I don’t find the background sounds of the airship as annoying as noise generated by players blowing war-horns, shooting that horse screaming bow, and elementalists repeatedly using firestorm. If I’m on the airship for any length of time I take off my headphones off.
There’s a general issue:
- There are certain spots that people will stay in for long periods of time (e.g. crafting stations, mystic forge, …)
- Those spots include a lot of visual and auditory noise, such as repeating ambient sounds or ‘color’ dialogue (“what should we do in the case of a golem uprising?”, “how many kills? 100?”, …)
The only way to reduce this clutter now is to turn off (or down) all such sounds; there’s no way to address the particular spot’s annoyances.
Or to put it another way: ANet should reduce the visual and auditory clutter that exists in certain spots. I’m sure if they asked, the players would gladly offer a list of suggestions.
Yeah I bought it too and thought o will be happy about it. I took my crafter and put him inside the ship, then I moved the pass so I can use it on my main. And then I find out my crafter gets teleported out if he doesn’t have it in his inventory…..really? Why? Why is it not stated on the pass? A clear strategy to sell account inventory slot, right? Well, you won, I will buy it, but with gold. No way I will spend 20€ on being able to keep my crafter on the ship while keeping the pass on my main.
Yes, I completely agree that noise is very irritating especially when wearing a headset (which seems to make it much worse) which I do 90% of the time. Yeah I rotate and nudge myself into a position where it’s not as annoying but when doing a lot of complex crafting and move back and forth between several stations or banks it’s just a nuisance. Would be glad if they just got rid of it.

Those are interesting points, as they’re showing a bigger picture of the problem.
Now, while nobody can control other players’ actions (horns spam and such), they can control the amount of sounds being played in a specific area, during a set amount of time.
Which pretty much is what they did with Fireball a while ago, and is the reason why LOD is a thing; it’s a different type of issue, but it’s based on the same principle.
[…]And then I find out my crafter gets teleported out if he doesn’t have it in his inventory…
That is irrelevant to the thread I’m afraid. Either way you should’ve read about what you were buying before buying it.

And where should have I read about it? Wiki? http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Captain%27s_Airship_Pass_
there is nothing about it, anywhere. It doesn’t really make sense because your position in PVE maps is always saved. This thing is probably the only exception.
And my feedback is not irrelevant. The topic clearly states FEEDBACK about the airship pass. The fact that the OP has a totally different and unimportant problem with it IS IRRELEVANT.
With the amount of gems recently spent on the Airship pass, the crew of that airship should be able to easily afford to fix those busted pipes. I have to mute the entire game whenever I’m in there. I like the convenience of the airship, but with the loud endless noise and no “return to previous location” option like the easy access to the WvW borderland crafting tables, this is hardly the “ultimate convenience”.
Assuming that the previous location cannot be saved from one PvE map to another and we have to waypoint back to wherever we were previously, my suggestion to make the airship pass and royal terrace the “ultimate convenience” would be to eliminate all waypoint costs while in those two locations. Instead of just talking to the helmsman to go to a major city, or go through and asuran gate in the royal terrace, we should be able to open our map and waypoint to any location without incurring waypoint fees. With my guild buff, I’m barely paying any waypoint fees as it is so its not that significant of a change to me, but it would be nice. To justify the cost of these passes, it would be a great feature to sell as the “ultimate convenience”. Also, please fix those pipes in the airship. I cannot tolerate all that noise without shutting off my speakers.

Hello,
Thanks for the feedback everyone, we will definitely look at this. It is quite often a hard balance between what we think an area would sound like if it was real and what we “want” it to sound like. But you are right, areas that we spend a lot of time in need extra care to make sure the sounds don’t make you want to leave:). Thanks.
Thanks for your response on the subject. I forgot to ask, could we get a dungeon vendor NPC on that airship? Theres only one dungeon vendor in the entire game and hes hidden away in lions arch.
I never really noticed the pipe sounds until you pointed it out. The sounds that bother me the most in the airship are the NPCs voice lines. They have stock lines like most generic vendors etc, but not the ones that match what they do.
“I’ve got deals you won’t believe”. You’re right bank dude, I don’t believe you have any deals at all.
“My bread is never stale” Good for you, I’m glad you’re enjoying your sandwiches. Now can you please sell me some coal Mr. Armorsmith?
I don’t know why that annoys me but it does. I guess I should just be grateful that at least there are no golem uprisings or kids playing detective in the Airship.
I hate that sound too and always put my headset down on the table when i am on the airship, it just give me headaches.
I have to agree with OP, the whistling pipes is annoying as kitten! I do most of my crafting away from the ship, using it only as a convenient place to buy and sell.
I’ve never ever heard any pipe sounds.. Mate I have some of my SFX settings off or really low but I’ll have to check this out… Truth be told the airship is 100% my favorite of the two passes – everything (crafting, bank + TP) all in one tight easy spot.
Also nice to see a dev response.. If the sounds really are that annoying for some I guess a change would be welcome.
And where should have I read about it? Wiki?

Unimportant to you. But you do have a point, so there’s no reason to keep arguing about it.
Thanks again to everyone who expressed their opinion on the matter, and I’m glad we brought it to the attention of the guys upstairs.

Just don’t remove it from every airship. It’s a neat little ambiance, but annoying when you’re hearing it continuously for a long time.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
+1 for this. I have sensitive hearing, and this gives me tinnitus every time I get on the ship. I want to be able to enjoy the sounds of the environment without having to change my settings every time I board the ship.

Hi, its been six months since this topic was last talked about and I want to point out the inconsistency of the airships in the game. Bloodstone Fen’s airship has the EXACT SAME leaking steam pipe issue as the Captain’s Airship, but there is no endless hissing sounds on that airship. I made a video to compare the two:
Everyone that has the captain’s airship pass should watch the video and then imagine if the crafting stations were on the bloodstone fen airship instead. Imagine how nice and quiet that would be.
It would be a quality of life upgrade to remove the sounds of these pipes from the Captain’s Airship. I have to mute the game on a daily basis to craft in this area. The Bloodstone Fen airship doesn’t have this audio, why should the Captain’s Airship?
+1 to fix the leak on the airship
