Chance of Salvaging Ecto Changed?
Exotic is not guaranteed to give Ecto. My record for 0’s is 7 exotics in a row. You just got unlucky. Nothing has changed in my salvage rate recently.

Well it has actually. Before the December 14th patch people were recording roughly 0.9 Ectos per rare using a Mystic Salvage kit.
After the patch it was down to 0.82.
But there have been multiple patches since then so I’m not sure if this still holds true.
Overall I hate the double RNG of salvaging.
Rare items are already….well rare. Having another RNG compontent attached to the salvaging process is really annoying.
I’d much rather have 80% chance to get 1 Ecto and a 20% Chance to get 2 than to have a 40% chance to to get 1, a 20% chance to get 2 a 20% chance to get 3 but also a 20% chance to get nothing.
My salvage results this week:
5 rares, 6 ectos
3 rares, 2 ectos
10 rares, 7 ectos
I think the highest worst run I’ve ever had was 6 rares in a row with 0 ectos. Seems pretty random.
Could ArenaNet please ban everyone who makes a topic like this? We get one per week, if half of them were true no exotics would ever drop ectos anymore.

Yes because banning people for asking questions seems like a good idea………….
They would not be the first game to make changes, and it would be easy to remove the excess Ectos created from the Snowflake jewelry error by lowering the salvage rate. When I went from an average of 10 ectos for every 6 rares/exotics to a 1:1 or 0:1 I thought it was worth asking.
It seems its just my bad luck.

I think they would be better served banning people with nothing constructive to say. But I guess your not to clued up on how percentages work. Ya do realise they can go up and down right? The OP didnt once say the chance was now 0%.
RNG + RNG = FUN
Your all just to uptight to realise just how much fun this is
For me exo’s should be a 100% chance for globs. But I do agree something changed as before the patch i saw a higher % of rares dropping and in turn giving ecto’s.
We have the sneaking suspicion they changed something as well. We tried asking about it, the total repliers reached 1200 posts and was locked, and we were basically told it was all our imagination.
The thread in question focused on loot drop rates, glob drop rates, DR/magic find bugs.
They have a new thread out now to report this kind of thing to.
I was worried it was low. Then I got 9 ectos from 4 rares.
Seems the same as it always was to me. Maybe very slightly worse, but still acceptable. The chance to get Rares in the first place though, well we all know about that.
I have not seen any change in ecto salvage rates.
Based on my sample set of hundreds of samples the last week or two, for every 100 rares salvaged I tend to wind up with 80 ecto (Note, this is NOT 80% chance, this is 80 ecto for 100 lvl80 rares, some will drop more than one, many will drop none at all).
Can’t say how that compares but it’s good enough for my purposes

I have done some checking; salvaging and recording the result. Basically the result came down exactly to what the kit said. Using a BLC kit I got approx 50% of the potential ecto’s. This would be like getting 150 ecto’s out of 100 exotics (which has max 3) Which is exactly what the kit says. I also tried a vendor salve kit which has 25% recovery. I got approx 22% of the potential ecto’s while salviging rare items.
The number are pretty consistent on my trials.
I think, given the varying results people seem to get, that much is based on the RNG. For example, I have several friends that always manage to salvage at least one ecto from a rare, if not three. I personally have such bad luck (even when using a Black Lion kit) that I have simply started just selling any rares I find. This is guaranteed to net me between about 25 and 40 silver, depending on type and availability of the item, which is roughly (give or take) the price of an ecto. It’s not a fantastic return, sure, but it is a certain return. I suspect that in the long run my stack of ectos is going to be quite similar to most salvagers who average between zero and three ectos per attempt.
And why would anyone salvage an exotic for ectos? Depending on the type of exotic, you should be able to buy at least three (or considerably more) ectos just from the profits accrued from selling it. I only salvage an exotic if it has an amazing upgrade on it.

These numbers are very consistent with what I get as well. Adding my own analysis to the topic is as follows:
Rares get three independent rolls (/roll 100 for example) for each of the potential maximum three ectos that come out. This means that you will get either 0, 1, 2, or 3 ectos per salvage.
Now lets say that you use a Black Lion salvage kit with a (supposed) rate of 50%. I would then say that for each of the three rolls, if a roll is from 1 to 50, I get an ecto. So over the course of lets say 10 salvages of rares, I would expect to get 15 ectos. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but on average around 15.
Same exercise, but use a Master’s/Mystic salvage kit for salvaging rares that has a (supposed) rate of 25%. When the salvage happens with the kit, if a roll from 1 to 25 occurs for one of the three independent rolls, I get an ecto. 10 rares to salvage would lead to about 7 or 8 ectos on average.
Take it for what it is, but this explains (at least) in a logical well thought out process of how RNG can give you 0 ectos and how it can give you 3 ectos. This matches my findings as well as numerous other peoples findings as well.
TLDR: Black Lion: 1 in 1.5 out, Master’s/Mystic: 1 in .75 out
The amount of times that this game is willing to give you absolutely nothing back for your efforts, either through dungeon chests, the mystic forge, or even salvaging, is completely demoralizing.

So not true. Anet have proven for a fact that you 100% get something if you buy gold off em.
