I have multiple hundreds of hours logged in the game. I started the hour the game went live. In that time I have received a grand total of ONE exotic drop (not counting the karka chest or zone completion auto-exotics), and that was a few weeks ago. ONE. I have received maybe a handful of rares from dragon chests.

Now please, Anet, try and tell me how that’s possible unless something is going on? It is virtually impossible for me to make money because all I get is junk that doesn’t sell for anything. I will never be able to afford my Norn’s cultural armor and I can’t even fully outfit him in exotic gear as it is because it would use all the little money I have.

This is completely deflating and demotivational in the extreme.

Please fix this.

Well, it isnt very comforting that Mr Whiteside can take time to communicate about communicating but we can’t get ANYthing about this issue which has been going on since mid-November.

I don’t know what else we have to do to at least get a response about this problem. I am not wanting another AMA. I am still waiting for further information which the last one seemed to imply would be forthcoming.

We’ve gotten a response that they are listening and that that there is an AMA on the way. I am confident that It is quite expected by them by now that half the AMA will be about loot.

There is doubtfully any way for them to dodge a question like this. I think we can rest assured that there will me more light on this issue soon.

The problem is that anyone who’s not a “hardcore gamer” or has never played enough, or started the game after the loot nerf will never know about this.

So if they keep ignoring it, eventually we’ll shut up, and the new players will never know how it used to be, and will just consider the low drops as “normal”.

Don’t let this thread die, the info needs to be known and we want to know!

“Thoughts unspoken have the tendency to multiply” – Unknown proverb

And let me give you an example of how player comments look on the forums:

Week 1: We have a loot issue. Please hear us Anet!
Week 2: Anet doesnt care about us! Still having loot issue
Week 3: Anet is a greedy company leading us to the Gem store
Week 4: Anet is an Evil Secret Society planning to conquer the planet with alien Technology
Week 5: Thank you Anet, all my issues are fixed!

All joking aside, Whether the thread dies or not is irrelevant at this point. A 20+ page topic is something Anet staff discusses most likely every day in the office.

I dont believe that for a second. I dont even think they even bother to discuss it at all because it is of no consequence to them and they dont care about us gamers. Especially those that are struggling because of what they have done.
20+ pages and cant even say hi is ignorant and degrading to those that care and are effected by this. That is why I think this is ignored plain and simple.

short story: When DCUO released their special Lockboxes that had a chance to get special loot (aura or best accessories) it was exciting for subscribers who could open them all. Non-subscribers had to use Station cash to buy keys. Weeks later, the frequency of finding Lockboxes was noticably less often. After making a fuss by many players on the forums, we were told there was a cap on the number of Lockboxes you could find in a month. The limitation of the Lockboxes was not openly presented by the Devs, and had players not made a fuss, it might have never been presented.

…..has Anet put a cap on the number of Exotics or Rares or Rare Materials a player can find (from drops and/or chests) in a certain period of time?? 0o Whereas, if you reach the cap, you can’t get Rares of Exotics until the period of time resets?? 0o

I don’t think they’re ignoring it par-se, I personally think the executive made a business decision which was contrary to the game’s stated mandate as well as contrary to the November 15th patch notes. Further to that, I think the executive has gagged the staff and has forbidden them from commenting on the issue. Executives, especially those in publicly traded companies who have to answer to share-holders, often tend to be notoriously short-sighted. Big win now, with no real sustainability plan. At some point, major gaming press such as PC Gamer or IGN will pick up on this issue, just like happened with D3, and it will mean a lot of bad press for GW2 and ArenaNet as a whole.

Anyway I hope sometime soon they give us some answers about this whole loot issue this thread is getting huge. I personally haven’t seen an increase, they said they increased the bag drop rate but the bags are almost never drop for me so I can’t get the T6 mats from nonexistant bags, and we still have yet to see an increase in rares maybe my account is one of the ones with the perma DR on it since this is all I do all day. I tried going from place to place, didn’t increase my drops at all.

Worst change possible on the Jormag’s claw part. Elementals used to drop atleast few tier6 mats and a bunch of tier5 mats per event. Now it’s basicly a waste of time to spend 30 minutes there to get a couple greens and few blues from the chest.

All is vain.

Well if there’s a cap…then it’s a VERY small cap. Not including achievement rewards, since the Nov 15th patch, I’ve only gotten 2 exotic drops from a mobs…normal mobs at that. Well one for sure dropped from a mob…the other might have come from a chest…don’t remember for sure. Neither were usable by my class. Not counting upgrade components or crafting mats since I really don’t care about them, I’ve had whopping 14 rare equipment drops. This represents a substantial amount of game play including some dungeons and solo for large majority of Orr. As I said, if there’s a cap, it’s set OBSCENELY small. I did get exotics as area completion rewards for Orr, 6 in all, which I thought very strange given how stingy open world is. However, they turned out to be mostly garbage exotics that sold for as little as 30 silver.

Oh my. Hopefully this isn’t the case since whenever you craft/forge/pick up something from the tp isn’t it considered also ‘looting’ which would result in really unfair dr.

Im sure there are countless of topics about this and yeah Im making another one… I know….but Im getting tired off the vague responses.

I was referred to the discussion forums as previous topic was closed once I mentioned the nerf in loot and Im going to respond the same way.

Basicly us players or should I say us farmers are forced to either go to the trading post or the gem store or fractuals to actually have a descent drop of loot….I say descent because at some occasions in fractuals you get one rare for a run.

In my opinion there are 2 ways to go for a legendary, either you do everything above especially farm the trading post for gold or you get an option to farm for it… I dont give a kitten to farm for hours for it but at least let the loot be back as it was a month ago. Every spot that has been discovered for T6 materials, for rares or whatever you can think off has or will be nerfed when it comes to the attention of the devs…it is just rediculous….

We are forced to go a way we dont want to and that is NOT they way to play an MMO.

I dont care if we have to farm karma for T6, for lodestones or even skillpoints or whatever the devs can think off but in my humble opinion at least give us a CHOICE.

Your game is supposed to be FUN. Guess what for a lot of people its not anymore, there is no goal if you cant achieve it if you are FORCED in a certain direction.

To end the topic…. Im hoping in january february when you open new zones at least give some content that drops some decent loot as suncove was just a one time event for precursers and nothing else, its a deadzone….

Kind regards

You know what happens to the grand scheme of things when drops are increased or decreased? NOTHING. The market stabilizes!

Perhaps, but the marketplace is only one piece of the puzzle. Everything is interconnected.

Crafting is still broken as you can typically buy crafted items for less than you can make them. T5-T6 mats drop so rarely now that one has little option but to grind relentlessly or buy them. If you have the mats already sure, but even then for really high end stuff often you’re better off to just sell the mats and buy the item you want…broken due to the drop rate.

Also, any hope of achieving legendary weapon is gone unless you grind indefinitely. I wouldn’t even want to fathom a guess how long it would take with these drop rates. Of course, you could just drop a pile of money in the gem store and buy much of the require materials. The precursor for Twilight, Dusk, is going to run you a mere $443 through the gem store. I estimate Twilight would cost over $1000 worth of gems to craft…and that’s just for the things you don’t HAVE to grind relentlessly for. OR you could buy one pre-made. One was just recently posted on the TP for 9500G, that’s about $8400 if you were to buy that solely through the gem store. It cost the guy 475G just to post it. I wish I had that kind of gold to throw around. Does this sound even remotely reasonable? You can buy a REAL hand-make Japanese sword made out of hand smelted tamahagane steel for that.

Your argument about the market stabilizing falls on deaf ears.

I completely understand your frustrations Darkdanjal. The loot is meh and the drop-rate is almost non-existent. Seriously, I’ve been level 80 for 3-4 weeks, been farming PvE and WvW for at least 5 hours a day, and in that time I’ve killed 1,000s (npc’s and human) the drops have been 1 yellow, 1 BL key, a handful of blues and greens, but the rest has been white…

I’ve tried to do FoTM for some better drops but I can’t find anyone to group with and soloing them is impossible as can’t even make a dent in the first enemies health. Orr is the same, there’s no-one doing Orr to group up with and while the enemies are kill-able solo they don’t drop squat. I am totally confused as to how I’m meant to play the game in order to get rewards.

Well put, Leamas.
After so much sifting of data and experience through the course of this, and many other threads; and in light of what is known from developer comments as to live monitoring and manipulation, it really does start to become apparent that real-time alteration of things like drop-rates is the likely explanation.
Waiting for patches to fix things is becoming redundant, when this ground-breaking new approach seems to have been taken to manage this facet of the game’s economy.

I am totally confused as to how I’m meant to play the game in order to get rewards.

You are meant to buy gems.

I’m sorry, but that is a fact backed up by every non-class nerf you have seen since the game went live.

The game is technically free to play, if you can ignore that you have to pay for the client, but to advance 80+ at any acceptable rate, you will buy gems or you will not outfarm inflation.

There are exceptions (people who exploited the karma weapons, and people that leveled fast and farmed places pre nerfs) that also have money and may not have bought many gems. Those three groups of players now artificially control the market. They buy every item of one type and relist it for more, precursors are an example of this.

You will never make enough money to compete with that through the means available in the game currently, while those groups continue to make more and more profit by controling the market.

Your only option to bridge that gap at this point is to buy gems.

And thats how Arena Net wants it, because they are the ones who nerfed things into the state they are today.

“Better chance” is a “play on words.” Say, if the rares/exotic/legendary used to have a drop rate of 1.00%/0.10%/0.001% then by making these drops to 100% will make them at 2.00%/0.20%/0.002% and that means “better chance”.

Why call it better chance? Well, Anet could have reworded something, say “they made a 100% increase”, and they weren’t lying. Heck, Anet can even say they improved the droprate by 1000% and you still get crap, and they will STILL be correct. As always, the devil is in the details.

I am not sure if those details are posted on the patch notes, or blog posts, but to check if Anet is telling the truth, look at “numbers” and don’t interpret their words the way you would have wanted it to be.

Good luck and have fun!

I changed areas – went back to Orr and then Queensdale. Again decent loot – 2 rares this time, 5 greens and slightly more blues than whites. I have a feeling that the loot gets better where there are less players per zone or the time you spend in it. After 2 or so hours in Orr I started to get more hoofs and even nothing from mobs in a chain.

I tend to salvage high level whites and blues for rags and leather – got 2x T6 leather from a white and another from a blue. 5x T6 rags as well.

What ever the parameters are I think changing zones frequently helps to improve your DR.

I’ll let you know on my next run. I’ll try other zones I havent been to in a while – Mount Maelstrom, Dredgehaunt Cliffs and Blazeridge Steppes (is that the one with the dragon? I haven’t done him yet)

Last night three of us were in a party and killed that Champion shark in South Shore. Nobody got anything from it.

Other world drops really feels like what Zapan.7460 said – a cap on rares/exotics/T6 mats. I haven’t found an onix loadstone in two days after farming approx 4 hrs each day: earth elementals in malchors leap and cursed shore – cathedral of verdance — so ya, cross-zone, split over two days, doing WvW and dungeons inbetween farming, farming about an hour each session — that’s supposed to “reset” DR isn’t it?

Could be rng, but, could also be low enough rng to suck the life out of the game.

Yesterday I was roaming around LA and found all 4 boost banners. This was shortly after logging and I was not playing for last 30 hours or so. Said to myself, let’s try to farm some events in Orr. Ate nomnom tart, put more MF gear and started farming in a party of 4. Got 2 rares, few T6 mats, load of Heavy Moldy Bags (around 30), plenty of greens in about 1 hour (watched the clock). Then poof, Porous Bones and white junk at best.

Now I am almost 99% convinced that DR kicks in in about 1 hour OR after killing certain number of mobs (I tend to keep steady rate of killing stuff per hour).

After that I change zone to Frostgorge and managed to catch Jormag event. No drops worth mentioning and chest gave me 5 items including some green crest and 4 blues. All worth maybe 5 silver at NPC. Tried to farm some Corrupted Lodestones for the last 3 hours but except white trash I got absolutely nothing. Again I was in 5 man party and we killed dozens of Collosuses. No one in party reported any valuable drop.

At the end I crafted 8 rare swords just to salvage them for ectos… got 2.

Seriously ANet, I am not going to spend money on gems. There is no point for me in BUYING stuff for real money when I just want to play the game as intended. I want to craft stuff for alts, travel around and have fun and as it is now if I haven’t made some gold before I wouldnt be able to cover teleport and repair fees!

I started playing yesterday with exactly 15g 7s 34c in my bag. Ended with 14g 90s after 5 hours of playing and selling all I could on TP/NPC. See where it is going? And I didn’t even do WvW where you are bound to repair your gear few times.

Just how I see it.
No I dont believe they read the forums every day at all.

Not related to the topic
For all those interested, the Steam Xmas event started today.

True never thought of the gag order. I have been guilty of some of those decisions myself but never a gag order (not game company). They were very good at communicating up to the 15th that it never entered my mind that it wouldnt be spoken about. lol.
Mybe I will start to raise a stink outside the forums then hit the other sites since they are now starting to look at the game in a critical fashion. Especially since some have noticed the massive drop in pops.

Their plan is simple…squeeze our wallets during Christmas and then in January return with repentance and promises, new plans for a great and promising future. Then, next Christmas, if the player base is still significant they will apply the wallet squeeze again. Rinse and repeat.

Who want to bet that we will have a new letter from Studio Design Director Chris Whiteside in the next 3 weeks, promising a new brighter future?

Please guys keep this thread on topic, we’re discussing the changed loot parameter, this has nothing to do with money or gagging.

This is probably the sad truth. I uninstalled the game because of this but I really like the game as it was at release and want it to be better so I re-installed for the Dungeonsday event. But now my Alt. Ranger is level 19 and STILL hasn’t had any drops of armour/weapons since level 8 (outwith story rewards). This is clearly either a method of torture devised by Anet or it’s simply broken. What is the point of having changeable armour/weapons when you never get any?

My level 19 Ranger using level 6-8 weapons is tragic. Sure I could buy some from the TP but if I was a new player I probably wouldn’t really use the TP and think the game was too Ebinezer Scrooge with the drops and go play something less miserly with the drops. Besides it’s got to the point now where I’m trying to see how high I can go before getting a weapon drop for him. If I make 80 I demand an achievement

Low drop rates = Less customisation of our toons, less profit to help us save for things we’d like to purchase, less FUN! Tell me one person who wootied when they got their 19504th globby goo.

If there is a positive side to this abysmal drop rate I’d like to hear what it is.

So far these Holidays.

Borderlands 2 – £27.98
Steam – £43.22
Guild wars 2 – Zero

You know why…..Loads of players have told you why in this thread but you choose to ignore them.

If that’s the case there is no reason for anyone to support such greedy company IMO. They did A GREAT GAME, really. If they want to make more money of ouf gem store they should just put some pay-to-win (easier) items rather than manipulating playerbase by tweaking drop rates or controlling economy from the back seat.

I remember reading that this game gem store will be for convience and fun only. What has happened to that? Sure items there are convenience and fun but the gems and the way they can be converted to gold is not. Just look how much 1 in-game gold is worth vs USD or Euro and how much some items are sold for. Few k $$ for some pixels, really?

I completely agree with your analisys.
That was the conclusion I ended up with, based on my experience on previous mmos.

You know what happens to the grand scheme of things when drops are increased or decreased? NOTHING. The market stabilizes!

Perhaps it changes nothing for the heavy farmers and TP players, but for people that’d rather get what they need on their own, instead of being forced to buy everything from the market, the change is very, very significant.

Actions, not words.
Remember, remember, 15th of November

Installing Darksiders 2 and Arkham City as I write this (Love Steam Xmas sales), they (Mostly DS2) will mostly replace GW2 in my limited gaming time. Sad thing is I wasn’t even looking at new games until the loot issue.

I’ll be honest. I have some expendable gold with over 150G in the bank, I’ve also got a full set of exotics, and not interested in starting a new character (Especially with these drop rates) so I’m not looking to make huge purchases. That said, I’m still a gear driven player and this issue is sucking the fun and life out of the game.

Perhaps I’ll start playing seriously again when ANet starts taking us seriously.

thanks all for the support….Its not that I dont like the game, yeah I do level alts but my main goal is to get that skin ( cultural I have on main and I want them on all my characters) and of course to get that legendary, if I had known what happens now for the last month I would have gone for the legendary from the beginning.

Ill state it as I did before…an MMO is all about CHOICES you can or will make in the future, getting pushed to a certain direction to achieve a certain goal is NOT the way to play an MMO.

That said…this is what is happening now, being pushed to do something some might like and others dont. People who farm the TP, I get it and I wish them all the best but for people who want to “work” for a legendary as in farm there should be options to do so.

I hope the devs are listening and Im sure they are.

Kind Regards
