Then again, if this happened to Scarlet she’d come back to terrorize Tyria in an all new living story season featuring a wacky alliance of aliens and predators (with a side army of dinosauroids with cranial laser implants riding flying raptosharks).

Actually that might be fun, albeit not particularly Lore friendly. At this point, though…

She was being manipulated by mursaat!

Mursaat need suitable host bodies to return to Tyria from the world they evacuated to, as they adapted to that environment and can’t survive on Tyria on their own any longer. Ever since all mursaat that managed to slip to Tyria were killed, they have been working on ways to get an unlimited supply of bodies to inhabit so they can keep control over the door of Komalie (which can open to more places other than the Torment, incluing the mursaat world) and the rest of Tyria.

When Scarlet went into the isolation chamber, a Mursaat engineer who was working on portal technology somehow connected to her psyche, and managed to take over to her connection to the dream that was at the moment severed, an establish a subconscious control over her.

She thinks all she’s doing is part of her plan, but all of that has been designed by mursaat.

Her ‘hybrid’ is just one of the final phases of the experiments to make hosts bodies for mursaat that do not have the downsides human hosts have, such as free will.

Scarlet thinks her plan is coming to fruition, gloating in front of the players by a asura-like portal she made. Just after she claims she would summon her next batch of minions from another world, suddenly her sides start to ache, and just as if she was a cocoon, her body starts to break and twist, and a leafy-looking mursaat comes from within, starting with his wing-like branchia, the head next, like a moth that has just ended its metamorphosis.

Just at that very moment, Scarlet comes to her senses, realizes what’s happening and what she has done, her connection to the dream is restored, and goes back to being Ceara. But it’s too late, and as she dies she only has time to tells the players the code for the portal behind her, and snaps like a twig.

The mursaat discards her husk throwing it away like an old piece of cloth, looks at the players, and without saying anything, he throws a deep, guttural laugh as he goes throw the portal, which explodes after he passes.

Right at that moment, portals starts appearing and the old scarlet minions, now mursaat minions, start popping and attacking, and players must defend a team trying to fix the portal while the minions attack.

Once the minions are defeated, the portal is fixed and the code is used, players gain access to the maguuma wastes and 3 new zones, in which a massive battle against mursaat happens, including 3 world bosses and a dungeon that is set in the mursaat world.

After all of that, players can meet Ceara as a “dream ghost” by the pale tree avatar where she apologizes. Next to them are R2D… I mean, hobotron and the minstrel, who tell you that now that they are free they have decided to go adventuring, and players can find them both each week all over the world looking for some junk or event item players can gather for a weekly reward.
