Anet’s justification for the nerf is that they wanted 2 or more Mesmers in the raid instead of just one spitting out boons (look how that turned out) and went as far as to say that two Mesmers would provide the 66% alacrity for the raid instead of the usual 33%, which is a complete lie.

Surely that could not have been it, considering Karl was all like “If we reduce the duration you’ll just bring more chronomancers” (oh no, to bring multiple of one class within a 10 man group, and where every spec not designed to keep 100% alacrity would have not suffered, what a terrible thing it is to have balance…)

Frankly I sense a lot of dev bias, and/or is a misunderstanding of context due to a lack of knowledge.

I respect the attempt to reduce the effectiveness of “frequent and readily available” active defenses (tho I dunno why every medium class is allowed to have it then) on chronobunk, and the corresponding reduction of passive defense to give more play for damage based specs. However the changes to alacrity burned every chrono match up. Sure chrono is now more in line with core mes, but core mes sucked to begin with. The only time it was “relatively” balanced with the rest of the game was after the few damage based and PU nerfs following the core specialization patch, but before HoT.
