Good morning all,

The November 15th patch states the following:

The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons.

Can we please clarify this is actually correct and not a mistake? Champions do not drop loot every time – since this patch no champion I have taken down has dropped more than a blue, with the majority dropping nothing (60-70%). There are countless examples of this in both of the loot drop threads. Veterans seem to have worse chance to drop than normal mobs, most of the time dropping nothing, though this is difficult to compare due to less frequency of the mob.

We have received an update from Colin and other Anet staff regarding other issues with drop rate or DR – this thread is not to discuss that. However there has been no update regarding this. Can a developer or designer please confirm:

1) Are champions/veterans meant to drop something every time? If so, why isn’t this working? If not, why do the patch notes state the opposite?
2) Is it expected to receive minimal amount of loot for defeating the most difficult (non-event based) mobs in open world PvE?
3) What are these rares and exotics you speak of? Things of legend?
4) Is it expected to defeat major world bosses (temple events, dragons, bosses from minor event chains) and receive mainly blues and greens? Especially for temple events where the chance of failing can be quite high depending on the group…

If you request proof, I am sure countless players will be able to provide screenshots of event bosses/open world champions dropping nothing. There are many references to this in other threads already which have been ignored…

Mods, please do not merge this with the other loot drop thread. That thread is specifically relating to DR and overall drop rates – this is a completely different discussion regarding patch notes which seem incorrect. Players have asked over and over again for clarification on this but received nothing.

Thank you for your time.

Veteran/champion loot drops are consistently awful in my experience. Or more accurately, non-existent. Most of the time they never, ever drop loot. And when they do, it’s usually junk. By “junk” I literally mean junk. Even the game classifies it as such.

I generally don’t even bother fighting veterans or champions anymore because the rewards for doing so are so rare that they are practically non-existent. I have better luck fighting random enemies than I do fighting some of the hardest enemies in the open world. The random, less powerful enemies are almost guaranteed to have better loot than veterans and champions. That doesn’t make any sense to me, and it certainly doesn’t make it fun or rewarding to solo such enemies only to get absolutely nothing.

Chests from temple events and dragon events seem to be equally awful but that’s probably more RNG than anything. Still, the rewards for such epic and exciting events are quite poor. Despite that, it’s better than getting absolutely nothing at all, which is often the case with vets and champs.

I’m willing to help provide actual data or screenshots if necessary. I realize that anecdotal evidence isn’t very useful in confirming things like this. However, loot drops for veterans and champions don’t appear to be working properly (unless we’re supposed to get low quality drops from difficult enemies).

Champs should have a 100% Change to Drop Loot. Also do Veterans.

I get frustrated when I kill a champ or vet, and I get nothing. It’s not fair, in normal mobs it’s fine, but in this “Bosses” makes no sense give no loot. I belive players should be rewarded for their effort to do something ^^

Ongoing problem. I would suggest that since we always seem to get the answer that their software isn’t showing them any problems whatsoever that they have someone look into the integrity of the data gathering software because this has been an issue with me since Nov 15th 100% of the time. On average I tend to see 1 drop in 8 veterans and 1 drop in 10 champions and None of them have ever been rares or exotics since the very launch of this game. The only rares or exotics I’ve received since launch was prior to Nov 15th and only from lesser mobs (ie mosquitos, doe, wolves) or from dragon/temple events before the Nov nerf to loot took hold and DR was implemented.
