Normally, I don’t like to complain about video games. Especially a really awesome game like this one. However, one of the biggest issues with this game is their lack of color blind support. For someone like me who is red-green color blind cringes at the fact that most of the most important alerts in this game are either red or green. I’ll go through some of the big instances of this that really affect me during the game.
AoE spells: When an AoE is used in gw2 arena.net made it convenient for people by showing a circle that tells you its radius. However, they made the circle shaded red and green for enemies and allies AoE’s respectively. I can’t tell you the amount of times where I either don’t notice there is an AoE on the ground because the outline blends in with the scenery. When I do actually notice that it’s there I can often not even tell whether it was an allies AoE or enemies. It’s extremely frustrating when I think I’m safe in a spot and then I suddenly die. This is probably the biggest issue I have with colors because it literally is life or death for me.
Rare/Masterwork items: This is just annoying. I can’t tell if an Item’s name is yellow or green. So when I loot after every dungeon I have to go item by item to tell me whether it was a rare or masterwork item. It’s extremely time consuming for me to have to do this every time. It is convenient that there are bags that make rare’s go to them over other bags, but I shouldn’t have to be forced to resort to them to be able to figure out what my item is.
WvW: Yet again, there is red and green teams. Though that’s not the biggest issue because i can turn name-tags off for allies, so I know if I see any name-tags at all they are enemies. What is a big deal though is they in the most recent patch changed the colors of the blue and green team. Making the green team a lighter green and the blue team a cyan color. Unfortunately what this does it make it impossible for me to tell what on our map belongs to the green and blue teams respectively which is incredibly frustrating.
I really would like Arena.net to add a colorblind friendly option like many other games have out there, or make it so we can customize the colors of non-character elements in the game.
Also, sorry if this wasn’t written particularly well, I didn’t do much editing. I more or less really just wanted to create awareness of the fact this is an issue and I’m positive I’m not the only person who has these problems.
