The changes made duplicate tags completely worthless and duplicate legendaries rather pointless in most cases. Neither one got any easier to obtain from the outset. Tags are 3x the price they were before the change.

Look at Nuggi’s post above yours. We are talking about a loss of gold much bigger than with commander tags, and in some cases more than legendaries.

I can understand people objecting to compensation (sort of, I actually have no idea why people are so invested in not letting other players get something), but I do think the amount of gold that has been taken off scribing has heavily been played down.

But the items scribes have made haven’t been made obsolete. In the case of commander tags and legendary weapons they have been. You can still use the same items you’ve scribed previously.

They have never provided refunds (with a tiny number of exceptions for when there was a specific price error on their part).

I heard they gave refunds when they changed the price of commander tags.

Commander tags is a different sort of thing and a poor example to support the OP’s case, since: (a) the price of tags increased and (b) the tags changed from soul- to account-bound. There have been several types of refunds for soul-to-account binding, but it hasn’t always happened. My point was: there haven’t been discounts for changing the price from higher to lower.

  • For the introduction of the Wardobe, skin duplicates were not refunded
  • Wardrobe dye duplicates were compensated with either unidentified dyes (the original colors) or with a duplicate dye that could be resold (for the limited-edition colors).
  • Wardrobe skins that were reskinned more than once were lost; no refund.
  • Commander tags were refunded on a very limited basis. The price also increased for everyone else rather than decreased. If you owned 1, 2, or 3, you got nothing, since you would have paid less than the new price. If you owned 4+, you got some of the cost refunded. People who (for whatever crazy reason) owned many more than 4 had to ask for special consideration and the outcome varied.

Anyhow, the point appears to be moot, since datamining suggests that ANet has started the process to figure out how to offer people something for those who decided they couldn’t wait to be scribes.

The 500 gold hedge as seen on the picture here. Never enjoyed anything so much in my life. Was worth all the effort. Tiny, but green at least.

Now you can make 25 of them for the same price.

Why on earth would you make a 500g hedge?

Wow if A-net really does this, I’d like some reimbursement for all the things I have that have changed in value or been made easier to obtain! (not going into details because of how silly I find the prospect something like this actually happening)

Honestly, this is why I don’t bother investing in anything at the start of an expansion or major release because chances are they will be adjusted. And I’ve donated quite a few materials to my guild— I don’t want any of it back. I’ve also profited quite a bit selling materials asap at release because I knew that even without changes, that was the highest that would be. Should I have to give that gold back?

Another example. I bought the Watchwork Pick a while back to gain easy access to a difficult material— sprockets. When they became a map reward, my stock of them dwindled in price. I was pretty upset, but then I remembered how many of them I sold for quite a bit in the past.

Not too long after the shared inventory slots came out, they went on sale for even less. I could have saved those gems instead of getting them right away. But hindsight is 20/20.

Point is, you pay a premium to be first.

Also, Anet pls pay me back for all those slivers I forgot to sell before the April Patch

for there you have been and there you will long to return.
