I wonder if more people would bother with the meta events (Gates, Temples, Beetletun, etc) if the WP fees were drastically increased while these events were unfinished.

Ironically, the champs in places like Fields of Ruin are not being farmed (at least on TC). The other day, I killed the Giant Devourer north of Ebonhawke with two other ppl. This in the course of map completion on my ele, I also found another champ in the north end of the lake in the NW part of the map.
Also, the end of quite a few DE chains have champ bosses, like the ogre chieftain in
Blazeridge.

I think this could fix the problem.

that would literally kill a part of what made Gw2 stand out from the rest of the MMORPGS. if that happened then it wouldn’t be people yelling at you for ruining their farming spot, it be people yelling at you for just being there.

least now you can be there and join the farm.

Just if everyone mindlessly wp to a specific champion. And what I’ve suggested would discourage people from doing so.
Think of it, you simply play the game, and while playing you encounter a champion, you can kill him and probably there would be not so many people around, but still enough to help you out. It would be more challenging and more fun.
But I see one problem here, right now the open world is very sparsely populated (at least on rof) so, first of all, devs should give us a reason to explore it again as a whole.

I want ArenaNet to remove at least 75% of the waypoints in each zone
There are too many waypoints in zones in the first place. Having the excessive number of waypoints we currently have only encourages porting around to the different champs instead of actually moving through the world and experiencing it on the way to an event.

Why should a person run 2-5min to the next champ when they can just waypoint right to it for a fee that is recouped just by killing the champ (or looting a single kill) when they get there? Waypoint availability encourages champ farming zerg trains for the purpose of gold/hour optimization.

Remove at least 75% of the waypoints in each map and the zerging and champ farming will go away as the optimal sequence of champs due to spawn times becomes irrelevant. It would deter players who are only in the zone to farm champs for gold/loot and who do nothing but create a hostile environment for other players who are simply enjoying the game as it is intended to be.

ArenaNet, you created this gorgeous world. However, not only are you encouraging players to ‘skip’ through it and ignore the beauty of the world, but you are also rewarding them for doing so.

it its even worse than that. Such people can be ignored or blocked. But the zerg also grieves people by sabotaging events they want to see fail (for repeating farmable stuff) by turning up at the event site, scale spawns to unbeatable and just stand there. Makes we wish the report ticket had a section “griefing” (though I understand that is hard to investigate and proof). Note: I am farming myself and pretty kittened to be associated with people like that.

I agree that reward sharing is what makes GW2 stand out before in a really good way. Ironically, its this exact thing that’s now enabling those zerg groups and turning people nasty.

Its a great pity because things have just turned so hostile overnight. An unintended consequence perhaps but I believe A-net should take a closer look; Starting with clarification regarding their stance on farming/champ zerg farm/event completion and then firm action against any verbal abuse or threats.

I just had someone from zerg whisper me all in caps (“STOP KILLING THEM”) when I did an event today. Pity he didn’t go further, I wanted to screenshot and report. And I didn’t do as demanded anyway.

Haha, I can’t even list all the things people have threatened to “report” me for. Everything from “ruining a jumping puzzle” to “starting an event too early”. I would’ve just completed the event, then come back later to complete it again. Start piling up all the false reports and see it all backfire in their faces.

You’re confusing champion events with events that spawn champions based on scaling.

Personally, I’m confused by this thread in general. Why would you ever think that completing an event is bannable? I want to figure out what event you’re talking about and go complete it all the time now just to teach those farmers a lesson lol.

Don’t listen to farmkids. I remember once in Harathi there were a bunch farming the centaur champ (this was a while ago, before this latest update) and people were failing the event on purpose just to get more zerg farm from the previous events on the chain. I, as a lvl 80 bulky warrior, aggroed the whole camp and finished the event… man, that was worth a youtube video… the nerdrage accumulated could’ve lighten NY for 3 days, just because they had to wait 15 minutes for the chain to restart…

I feel like making a guild event to intentionally break the zerg chain. lol

That would be griefing and would be bannable as you would be intentionally harassing other players.

I’m sorry, but taking a guild of people to the Cursed Shore to do events in the order we choose isn’t griefing. Even intentionally breaking the zerg chain isn’t griefing.

Events are there to be done and we’d be doing them. That’s like saying it’s griefing to win at PvP or it’s griefing to win a one of the races.

I’m playing the game. I’m doing dynamic events. With my guild.

There’s no griefing involved here.

The stated purpose for your “event” is to interfere with what other players are doing. You certainly are not going to get banned for it. Completing events is not wrong and ANet is not going to ban for having the intent to interfere. However, you are intending to interfere. If you carry that out that intent, you’re as much of a skritthead as the players who are complaining about other players whose intent is to finish the event.

I said I “feel like” making a guild events. Not quite the same thing as actually making a guild event. I feel like it, because I don’t feel anyone has the right to curse other people out for playing a game they paid for the way that they want to play. No one should have to go to watch videos on You Tube to run around Orr and do events. This isn’t reasonable.

Anyone who knows me at all (which is pretty much no one on these forums) knows I wouldn’t take action like that unless someone personally tried to curse me out for playing the game. That said, if that were to happen, I might very well bring my guild to Orr to do events.

Because the farmers don’t own Orr. They are licensing a copy of the game just like I am.

That’s why I said, “If you carry out that intent…”

This was a fun and good way to farm for a little while in the early days of this patch. At this point I don’t even get credit in the larger event now for killing anything, and even when I do they aren’t dropping the chests.

Players have been extra rude since the patch about following their orders, and or not waypointing to get the maximum benefit. They get really angry when you kill a champion before they complete their rotation.

Its a shame because running around in a large zerg killing mass npcs is fun to me.

Thanks for answering my question – looks like I’ll be ok if I complete the events, but count on being razzed about it. I didn’t know since it was the majority’s acceptable way of playing, if I completed the event it would be interpreted as grieving so would be flagged on my account when reported.

So I’ll just avoid all the farming areas and content to skip the issue.

No, I mean the Giant Devourer and possibly the ogre chieftain in the SE corner of the map. Every time I’ve been in the area, it seems that event is always up. There’s also
some sort of champ fish in the lake in the NW part of the zone. My question was, why Orr or Frostgorge? In any case, interrupting a farm to complete a DE chain is not a bannable offense to my my mind.

I’m sorry but this is utterly shameful how people are acting towards others who want to complete the events for one reason or another.

I play on SoR, and logged on in Cursed Shore, saw the escort Arah event was happening, and went to the camp.

A ton of people were there, we got to the Anchorage and I killed the cauldrons, within seconds, I had tells, name calling, and was the only one trying to kill the champion with a billion hp, and was called even more names, and told that everyone should report me.

For apparently disrupting a champion train, and doing the event.

Go ahead and complete the events if you want.

Who cares if you get called out in chat?, anyone that would do that is obviously garbage, so you wouldn’t want to associate with them anyway – that just makes it easier for you block and/or report them and be done with it.

You can’t get banned for completing the objectives set by the game itself, that would be absolutely ridiculous. The people who harass you after you do so however might not be so lucky.

Some events you can’t do much about; especially alone. If farmers choose to stand aside, unfortunately its their prerogative and a design flaw on A-net’s part (rewarding deliberate failure), But, with some others, even alone, you absolutely can!

Take the Aetherblade event for example (the one with the Aetherblade ship). It is solo-able and if you succeed, the zerg doesn’t get to milk the event for multiple champions. Even if they’ve arrived, you can end it faster by taking out as many vets and normal ones as quickly as you can. Its completing an event legitimately and you cannot be banned for it. Report anyone who sends threatening messages.

Another example that you can do something about are the ones that need to be completed in order NOT to spawn a champion. There are some out there, I won’t go into which and where. Again, you are completing an event legitimately. Nothing wrong with that.

Some would call this being a skritthead. LOL. Perhaps, but its fighting fire with fire.

I firmly believe that farmers can play the game how they want. I think they can do it non-disruptively and even make the map a ‘safer’ place. But I don’t like it when they start acting like they own the map or event and I never believe that nothing can be done against a bully.

You’re missing the point about social norms.

If you interfere with their farming route, obviously you provoke an angry response. Don’t act like they aren’t justified to be mad at you.

To be clear, it’s NOT okay for them to act like they own the map. However, it is the established social norms, and it’s not nice to purposely go against them just to provoke an angry response.

We’re talking basic social behavior here. If you go to a party and everyone is doing pot, you aren’t going to lecture them about not doing pot and confiscate it from them. Sure, what they are doing is illegal, but it was the social norm at the party.

What’s right or wrong legally is one discussion, but what is right or wrong socially is something that should be very clear.

About this..

I haven’t been on a lot n the past couple days, so I don’t know the current state of the zerg trains, and I have yet to participate in a CS train.

Personally, I’ve always been against abusing people who legitimately want to complete events that peeps are holding up for the sake of farming, if people get too abusive, I’d just log off, because it would leave a bad taste in my mouth.

On the other hand, there are many types of people in zergs, some are the abusive kind, some are just trying to relax, and hopefully get lucky and find a cool looking skin. In FG, none of the champs in the rotation are reliant on holding up events, so I have no experience with that, but occasionally there would be people who would specifically target the champs in the rotation, and kill them out of order on purpose, when normally they would have no interest in said champion. (it was obvious what they were doing, because they would eventually start making snarky remarks in map chat)

Maybe they are just doing it for the lulz, or because some people in the zerg had hurled abuse at them, but to me, and some others in the zerg, they appear to be just as kittenish as those people who fly into a rage all because a passerby killed a champ.

And not, isnt the social norm to dont play the game because of the farmers, they dont own the game, they arent all the players neither and i dont expect to think im the map owner if im trying to farm something (if i do it, witch still havent happened).

The same way i dont go mad if people come and kill a champion at his 50% when it toke me 10 minutes to solo, im not the champion owner, as they arent.

This. You have people that love to troll on purpose and annoy others and then complain that ‘’omg why are they so mad?I’m allowed to do w/e I want!‘’. You want to kill champs? that’s fine, you do it in order just like us, not decide that hey I want to solo this guy. The zergs focus very few maps while every single map in game has champs. Acting like that is literally asking to get cursed/insulted.

Nothing validate cursing or insulting, also if you want to do a certain champion or event, because you didnt do it, you like it, is a guild run, for a friend?.

If someone said hes doing it because he want to make the zerg miss his champ, yes you can get angry, othercase not, isnt your map.

Personally I’m talking about FG and no champs are involved in events there so when people decide to kill those particular champs involved in the chain, yes it is frustrating. Also it’s a matter of respect. No one said you should not do them, but rather do them in the same order as the zerg there. Personally I’ve spent some time there and people never cursed or insulted someone, but it did got frustrating when some champs disappeared because some guy thought it would be funny to break the chain multiple times.

About this..

I haven’t been on a lot n the past couple days, so I don’t know the current state of the zerg trains, and I have yet to participate in a CS train.

Curse/insult me and you will be reported. It’s now time for Anet to decide who they want to play their game.

So would I be a troll for playing the game and beating said event as it should be? Where, a lot of people are farming something for their own personal gain?

I dont have to do anything, I am just saying what usually happens and why it happens. Sure, you have the ability to do w/e you want and be a kitten to everyone in the game, but that usually gets replied with insults. Some zergs are bad, I agree but some are not. As I repeated, in places like FG there are no events on the champs and the champs themselves are in pretty far places, so when you decide that you want to break the chain here , you will have angry players responding back to your act the same way.

If you did that in a place like FG yes, that would be trolling because there is no champ involved in events there in the chain. In the rest of the places, no

For those who say that farming doesn’t hurt anyone, I have this to say especially when it comes down to doing the Meta event that opens up the gates of Arah. Currently there are several threads about farmers who are intentionally failing the “Secure the Pact staging area at Shank Anchorage” part of the Meta event in Orr to farm all the Champs that spawn during the event. Thus causing gates of Arah to be permanently closed and thus keeping players from finishing their personal stories, and or from getting Shards of Zhaitan for work towards thier Legendary. This is GAME BREAKING and needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

You mean there are events, that when completed, will ruin a gold farmer’s day? Oh I know what I’m doing after work.

I also like the idea of few way points. I think that is the problem with the champs in Queensdale. There is a way point next to each one. On top of that you have three all right next to the hunter’s lodge.

But anyway, it’s gonna be fun to complete some events. As for the OP, they can throw up false reports all they want. You know what you can do? Screen shot their use of offensive language and send it ANet. They’ll be the ones to get suspended/banned.

It’s not in the least game breaking and I’m no farmer.

The gates to the dungeon aren’t closed, you can still enter the dugeon. Only the waypoint of the dungeon is closed. So go to the nearest way point and run to the dungeon.

No. The only person who is responsible for your (generic “you”) behavior is YOU. You do not get to vomit abuse at others and then stick up your nose and say “It’s their fault, they made me do it!” That’s a pre-school level of accountability we’re talking about here, and it’s effed up beyond words that so many people will make all sorts of excuses for abusers, especially on the internet.

Killing a monster that a zerg wants to call dibs on three minutes later can be jerkwad behavior if done to deliberately annoy non-offensive people, but I doubt it would count as griefing because the zerg does not in fact get to “call dibs” on anything. The zerg does not own any given zone or any event within the zone, and it is not entitled to have other players meekly ask for permission to do something, anything, that might interfere with the Holy Farm Train. We ARE, however, all bound by the same TOS that is very explicit about verbally abusing other players.

If someone is griefing, report them. Hell, make a snarky comment in /map about pathetic trolls. But don’t cross the line into abusive behavior. It’s against he rules, it does not solve the problem, and it only serves to further poison the game’s “community”.
