Ok, poor example. But what i was trying to put a example to is that there are all kinds of issues with trying to help someone in this way in the middle of a fight if the mob(s) are not otherwise occupied.

Alright, that’s a fair point.

Utilities help bridge some of the gaps though. I always view my PvE experience in a way that I try to help people first and do damage second. Just doing damage, while it’s effective, seems selfish to me. While building to survive can technically be selfish too, you can try to do something with that survival to help seeing as you have the ability to rez people be it manually or with utility skills or tactics.

And I didn’t expect to kill them fast being 100% defensive. With 30 points in BM and 25 stacks of Master’s Bond my jaguar was holding aggro and tanking mobs including Champions. I just pew pew my way to victory. The big difference I noticed was when I switched from Apothecary gear to Knight’s gear. In Apothecary gear I could not solo the Vet undead or what ever he is in Cursed Shore. He tosses out the grubs which in return shoot poison everywhere. However in my knight’s and zerker gear I can. Also, when boss’ in some dungeons one shot pets it is real unfortunate cause there goes half of my dps. So investing more in my character (offensively) than my pet is worth it.

Right, we’re on the same page then

I too run a BM build and while I do support my pet as my main source of damage, I wear Knights armor and Soldier trinkets so that I can crit somewhat often. With the Vet Risen giant, feels like a bad example since that’s one boss who’s damage seems to escalate if you don’t kill him fast. Even on my Phantasm mesmer, it’s hard to keep illusions alive and doing damage because its stomp will knock away Warden so can’t sit in it for protection, so have to rely on mainly damage.

My balanced Elementalist can manage to kill those giants despite not killing them super quick…Swirling Winds destroys the grubs before they land.

i used to play knigh with some celestial….
Didn t took that much to understand i really needed zerker….and i play D/D mostly…

Now despite unfair nerfs that destroyed any defensive capability of the class (expecially focus because only guardian should stop PvE projectiles true? swirling wind its obviously meant to clean the dust ….) you see too often strong regen to the point you can t get past it with anything but zerker.

Also when you have 20 enemies that hits for 14.000 each, you don t care of how much armor do you have, you cre only to clean them before your arcane armor etc fades away….if you need some more armor just use armor of earth, 6 seconds are more than enough…

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

It seems to me that what does not work is the middle ground. Full offence and full defence seem to work but I cannot get a mix that works – instead of dealing reasonable damage and having some survivability it deals too little damage and does not have enough survivability.

I do not concur, i actually run a (imo) sort of middle build. I have some of everything. Though i drop mobs a little slower, my survivability is a lot better. But this won’t be my final build (the gs is from my wvw build btw, need to cof a little more to get a zerk gs)

What if there would not be Power + Precision + Critical Damage gear in game?

If we wouldn’t have pure DPS gear, we would need to build “mini-berserker” sets with Valkyrie/Knight. Would that make game any different?

don’t underestimate Rampager, that could become the new pure damage build if Berserker wasn’t here.

And now OP you understand why the game is so one sided and broken…

Those of you saying this build doesn’t work in WvW are wrong, yes you’ll maybe die 1vs 1 as zerker build, maybe…….but as WvW is all Zerg vs Zerg anyway zerker shines in a zerg…

I also converted to damage. It’s the only path. Armor is not balanced enough to match a zerker. Why would you run Toughness/Vitality when u can kill any monsters in 5 seconds)

I switched from tough/prec/cond (rabid) to full zerker and never looked back. In dungeons, you’ll have to evade anyway. I wikitten was fun to play something else, but they obviously didn’t manage to balance the different options. Even in WvW I’m doing way better with that combo.

I’ve since done the same for my Ranger and now *terrorize* Karka and Sharks. They are dropping so fast that I can’t tell if I’m killing them or they are committing suicide!

I’m a PVT Mesmer and I can easily that yes, they are in fact committing suicide.

Thing is, it doesnt matter what you use as long as you play good. Bad players will still die regardless of being in PVT or berserker gear or anything in between. I enjoy PVT because I am WvW built for plowing through a 30+ man zerg and surviving. You have to give something up. Its impossible to be perfect in every aspect, the build/gear system has seen to that. Berserker isnt the holy grail unless all you do is attack small groups of PvE mobs 24/7. Neither is PVT.

but as WvW is all Zerg vs Zerg anyway zerker shines in a zerg…

Pick any guild and I assure you they are running very high toughness and vitality on all frontliners. Only backliner necros/mesmers use some condition damage but even they will have at least 1500/1500. And that guild group will plow through your random zerker zerg and down them before they even know they are there. CC beats the snot out of raw damage.
