As someone who has only the Gifts of Fangs, etc and the amalgamated gemstones for HOPE, I’m not sure that I agree its super time consuming for the COLLECTION. In fact, that was actually pretty easy with the exception of the bugged champ devourers. I knocked out the event-based parts of the collection in rapid succession over the course of about a week. If you’re on a low pop server, I can see how it might take much longer. I’m on BG, so no issues for me.

As for time-gated ascended materials, this is why you build up a reserve of the once per day mats even when you aren’t actively pursuing something. I built up 30 or so and kept them in my bank for almost a year before doing HOPE.

Pact map bonuses are a great way to get your T6 mats.

Ultimately, its the T6 mats and amalgamated gems that are crushing me. AGs in particular are obscenely scarce with very few ways to get them. The recipes are all more expensive than just buying them. The few bags that drop them are also not the easiest to obtain. That’s the one area where I think we really need some relief.
