I have 8 80s and only 1 is leveled in the open world. The other 7 is thru pure crafting. I just can’t get myself to step in the open world, and my 1st toon has only 50% completion. So yah, it’s really boring for me to level alts.

My two cents.

I don’t have alts. I have different characters. I enjoyed leveling all ten of them to lvl 80 and I’ll enjoy leveling the next ones to (once I get a few more gems).

I’ve leveled four alts to eighty so far, mostly for when I’ve felt like playing something different.

Mostly I’ve been doing standard PVE exploration, with a bit of crafting here and there. I’ve been in no hurry, I’ve been wanting alts to have a new way to play the game, and the slowish leveling progress lets me see what playstyle suits me.

Alts makes the game for me, both in looks and in playstyle. Without them, I’d be bored already. Sometimes I feel like it should go faster, but for me that mostly means that maybe I don’t like playing that class after all. Since I don’t bother with ascended yet, there’s no problem gearing them up as they go. Ascended is a different kettle of fish, but I don’t really need it in PVE and I don’t have the skills in WWW to really make use of that extra oomph. I need practice more than I need ascended.

So yeah, it feels like this system was made for me.

Here’s some strategies I use

Do dailies/monthlies/LS achievements with a designated alt. The XP boost is really substantial from these. Altoholics are often daily taskers at heart anyhow

Try and complete all WPs and hearts (but not necessarily POIs and Vistas) on a map before moving to the higher level regions, because…

…you can logically plan out your daily achievements. Shiverpeak Events is up? Then head to the lowest level region you haven’t explored in the Shiverpeaks and concentrate on events and hearts. Ascalon Killer? Same thing. You will likely cover others as well like Gatherer, Vet Slayer, Leveler, whatever.

It’s also a great opportunity to grind out some of the weaponmaster achievements. Warrior main will never get the warhorn done, but a necro alt can take a big chunk out of those numbers.

For crafting, I make my non-crafters chefs only. I don’t use it for a lot of XP but it lets me do the crafting and related dailies with the alt. I’ve pushed crafting XP on an alt and it was mind numbing. I would much rather run around the map. YMMV

I’ve just opened my 15th slot, because other than my key farmer slot I always end up wanting to keep a fairly specific build, finding it easier to swap toons than to swap gear, skills and traits.

Besides, it is always nice to have another minion parked in the chest mines of LA. And very few of them have the high level maps completed at all so there are several exotics waiting too.

levelling any character after level 30 is boring. The extra 50 levels serve no purpose whatsoever other than a pointless grind.

The rest of the zones after 30 could all have been “endgame”, but no, we have 50 levels of underpopulated boring grind for no reason.

uhhh… Traits?

yey I get to put a point in a +1% trait and occasionally get a minute benefit from a “choice”.

No, as far as I am concerned once you get the elite skill, all other levels are superfluous.

I don’t find leveling alts boring, I’m up to 9 characters now. 3 are maxed, the other 6 range across the board from 20 to 60 in their levels.

Most of my leveling is done through map completion, with a little bit of crafting along the way. I don’t do any of the personal story until I’m between 60 and 65. Then I do only personal story missions, which finishes leveling me those last 15 – 20 levels relatively quickly.

I try to keep different characters in different areas of the world, this way the map completion stays a little more fresh. I haven’t gotten to the point where anything is stale yet, probably due to how I rotate through my playing.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.
