Does GW2 feel unrewarding for anyone else?
As for the OP, there are several people in this game that get the best rewards, from pre’s to really expensive skins etc, its just the way the game is made, some believe that your account is tagged on creation to either get said loot, or not, Magic Find no matter how high you push it, does not seem to change this ( even though it should ) you will never get a reply from Anet or a Dev on this topic, as its working as intended as far as they are concerned, even though RNG has caused so many hate filled topics.
I am absolutely convinced that every account has a hidden “Luck” stat based entirely on some random hash. Maybe it was supposed to be somethng that shuffled on login, or every month or something. But it ended up locked in place.
I get some exotics. ‘2 a week or 2’ I’ve gotten 4 Teq Hoard boxes and maybe 4 ascended weapons and armor chest.
And no precursors at all. Which is sad but I would sell them right off.
I just grind the mess out of Orr for gold.
Which got me enough gold to so I could max out all crafting… which got me heavy/medium/light full ascended armor sets along with all the ascended weapons.
I grind the world map or events to get ascended backpacks or trade gold for gems for skins.
You can get 20 to 25 gold a day to get what you want.. eventually.
I stay away from RNG gold sink as much as I can.
Life is a grind —- so I MMo’s.
In my view.
this is the first MMO I have played where the rewards are total kitten.
CoH – didn’t really have a drop/item system and it worked. everything gave currency, and lots of it, and everything could be purchased with said currency.
TSW – gives appropriate drops, all the time, in all content. Everything can be either used, crafted into something else, or sold for a profit. Very rewarding experience.
SF – guarantees boss loot drops, and the harder content you play the better rewards you get. your loot is directly reflected in the time you spend in the game. if you choose easy missions, you get easy loot. Every loot you get can be broken down to upgrade your stats.
GW1 – everything rewarded gold, and drops were excellent. you could challenge yourself to do something solo and get all the loot instead of splitting it amongst NPCs. again, you are rewarded for challenging yourself. Hard mode and other challenge content gave tons of reward, which you could spend toward special armor sets or more coin.
GW2 is like going to a theme park at vegas. one in every 5k lucky attendant gets something really sweet as advertised, and everyone else gets used cotton candy. If there weren’t a wardrobe system there would be no reason to keep playing.
Yes, the game is extremely unrewarding for me. Maybe working on the Bioluminescense armor was a bit rewarding, I could work for it and overcome the challenges to get it.
That said: every single bit of my around 4k hours I played felt unrewarding: I dropped 1-2k gold into the forge to get no single precursor, I never received any precursor nor did I get anything remotely valuable in those 4k hours. I think the most expensive skin/item I ever got through normal play was 10-20g. No single expensive skin (at least not at that time), I had to buy all my precursors, sometimes with real money. This really sucks.
This is even more frustrating when trustworthy guild mates tell me they get a precursor around every 6 months. They received already their 4-5 precursors with around the same play time. I don’t mind if you get one or two in the same time, but how can someone have this much luck and some other this much bad luck? I don’t know how all those stuff will change with HOT but I hope this will somehow addressed. Precursors and legendaries should never have been tradeable anyway and never been obtainable by pure and only pure RNG.
‘would of been’ —> wrong

I know that Anet or a developer won’t reply on this topic. However I just felt to share my feedback, because I’m disappointed how things turned out for me. It’s also the first topic which I ever created for a game just to share my personal thoughts or experiences; to show how much I actually care about GW2 and Anet. I’ve played GW1 since release and I had a great time with the game. They’ve earned my respect and I trusted Anet a lot because of it. But now… I don’t know.
I can see where that would be frustrating, particularly with a friend that had better drops. The only thing you can really do is stay the course. Trying to force it generally isn’t going to work, as you have already seen.
The great thing about this game is that while the shiny stuff is awesome, you don’t need it to be effective. If you decide to come back, I would advise making a long term goal, but breaking it up into much smaller pieces so you can feel like you are making progress toward that.
Just buy your legendary. So much more rewarding, and the American way.

The reason is that with a gem to gold conversion the dev’s must make the drop rates stupidly low.
Diablo 3 had this exact problem before getting rid of the Auction House. They have to make the drop rates painfully so that the TP can be combined between all servers. Otherwise the markets would have tons of items and nobody would ever buy gems.
Essentially wealthier people drive up the prices because they can afford to just throw cash at the screen. I had one guildy who would regularly throw a few hundred dollars at Gw2 because he worked for a medical supply company (he told me how they overcharge for everything.)
Honestly you should just play Diablo 3 if you want to actually get good drops. It ain’t happening in Gw2 unless they removed the gem conversion and gave each server their own trading post. We all know that will be a cold day in hell at this point.

MF does have an effect but the only thing you’ll notice is that rares will actually drop occasionally.
Try being a strict WvW player… No dungeons, no fractals… Then complain about gold. My RNG is so bad, after 3 years I still have no Ascended armor / weps, no legendaries, the exotics I see most are “Truth” and “Siege Commander Spoons”… I am currently sitting at 72 gold (which was gambled through the ecto-gambler). Want to talk about no loot? I would love for an ascended chest to drop so I could get a weapon or armor without the tediousness of crafting.
If your solo reason to play GW2 is for the Eternity, you probably should quit it. We don’t know how long GW2 will last. ANet might go out of business if HoT flops. Or HoT is successful and ANet decide to move on the GW3. I can’t bring my GW1 skins to GW2. I don’t think we can bring GW2 skins to GW3 neither. At the end you can only keep the screenshots or videos of your Eternity.
There are always things we cannot get in our life, but it doesn’t make our life totally worthless.
