Right now some people don’t like the content updates. And with any game out there, the forums is a minority compared to the whole playerbase of the game.

Go to any other games’ forums and you’ll find that it’s filled with more people who are complaining about the game rather than praising it.

Yes. A little bit.

The problem is GW2 was billed as skill based, no vertical progression, easy stat cap, and “everything is endgame”

This entices a lot of people, because they were looking for something different in an MMO.

However with one of the recent updates, Anet took a massive dump all over the promises they’ve made, and having not fixed any of the serious issues players are having, within a month of them being made, has started to drain any goodwill Anet has.

The game was, and possibly still is fun, but it’s not what it used to be, and quite a few of us are very disappointed in the route Anet has decided to take.

I used to. I’ve basically fallen in love with, and then out of love with every aspect of the game, as I played.

Got my $60 worth, any way. I still love the people I WvW with all the time and the genuine challenge and group effort and coordination required there; that’s pretty much the only reason I log in and the only reason I want to get any characters to 80. I’ve even gotten past the profession imbalances and sometimes jerky behavior/glitching that can go on in there.

But I’m really really trying to just enjoy the PVE world today, get some levels for some alts, and make some cash while discovering new places and content … but the giant bugs and imbalances and glitches in the general 50-60 and up level content is literally destroying any possible immersion and crushing my morale.

Yup, love it and have been playing since Beta Weekend 1 and early access. I don’t always agree with the decisions this team makes, and I wish they’d focus more on WvW sooner, but overall I’m very satisfied and have sunken many hours into the game and hope to sink many more in.

I can only see things getting better and better, particularly if the team is as dedicated as they claim in regards to adding new content. They’ve been doing a great job so far (bar a few gripes like lack of game modes in sPvP, little attention to WvW, and slow pace at fixing bugs), and as weird as it sounds I don’t mind the nerfs because I’ve been playing MMOs since EQ and 9 / 10 times the dev teams know what they are doing.

It’s the only MMO since WoW that’s kept me for more then a month and I’ve tried virtually all of them since then. Not perfect, but neither was WoW when it came out. Actually, in a lot of ways this reminds me of early WoW which isn’t a bad thing imo. Not the same game naturally, but the same types of issues were going on there.

Generally you have a solid and fun game with a lot of content (bar stuff to do endgame), with a few classes that need some serious help despite being fun to play (remember druids and the 31 pt. hurricane talent or POUNCE at 31 feral…how long did we have to suffer through that in WoW :P Now think of weak classes here).

I’m rambling a bit all over the place, but this game makes me get that fuzzy mmo feeling I haven’t had since EQ and WoW, two games that Iv’e stuck with for years in the past. Watching it mature into an amazing game is what makes these types of games so fun for me. I look forward to being able to look back several years after playing GW2 and recounting some of the “early days” that we’re in now…that is of course if they keep it up and don’t drop the ball!

I like the game just fine. I’m up around 700 hours and working on capping out my thief (70) and Guardian (60) (Edit: main is an 80 ranger which accounts for ~500 of those hours). I then have plans to level every other profession too. All the while I play around in WvW regularly, mess around on the TP for money, run the occasional dungeon, and slowly work towards a legendary weapon. Also looking forward to 3 big updates in the coming months for free.

I don’t think I’ve played a $60 game this much in years… maybe ever. It’s not perfect, but nothing is, and it was well worth the box cost which is all I ask of a game really. It’s entertainment. I have been (and am) entertained.

If you look closely at the negative outings of each player, everything involves player-versus-player in one way or another (i.e. the new ascended tier, unbalanced classes, technological issues in sPvP/WvWvW, and so forth). If you’re not seriously into that, and are more of a casual player enjoying PvE, dungeons and occasionally some PvP, this game might just be best game of the year. If you are more serious into the player-versus-player combat (which has been promoted without vertical progression, pure skill-based, engaging, and so forth) these issues become huge and can ruin your experience. Besides the obvious technical issues (culling), the rest boils down to the standard in MMO world; grinding and rolling the OP class.

About that… spvp is COMPLETELY skill based. Gear means absolutely nothing in WvW. In a zerg your gear will be irrelevant. In smaller skirmishes it will come down to class composition and again skill. Granted, a new character hopping into WvW will most likely get destroyed in small skirmishes. But a level 80, in any decent easily acquired gear will do just fine and his skill will make the ultimate difference. So that leaves bugs. Oh there will be bugs. If you come into this game expecting perfect polish like older mmos, than you will be dissapointed. I expect any mmo younger than two years not to be polished. If you wanna complain about bugs, go check out WAR. In terms of class balance as well, if you wanna complain go check out WAR. I played a shadow warrior for two years. THAT was inbalanced. Classes in this game have bugs (all of them) which take time to fix. But balance? They all have clearly defined roles, and when fixed, will all be viable.

Reading this forum as a new player, I get the impression that this is one of the worst MMOs on the market.

The forums represent less then 10% of the actual GW2 population. And this is confirmed in multiple threads by GM’s who have said the forums are a strong minority but are not ignored.

To listen to ANY forums in any mmo is the dumbest thing you can do. There are like 15 servers in gw2, 8 are completely at max capacity 24 hours of the day and the rest are usually high population. So yes, there are millions who love this game.

The game is ok. Nothing new on it, if you liked Lotro, you will probably like this. It is a better version of Lotro but with 1/5 of the content and a crappy storyline, but overall it is a nice MMO just like any other in the market. Better than the older ones, worse than some of the latest releases. Considering it does not have monthly fee, it is worth the 60 bucks. Just dont expect customer support, because it has the worst customer support ever, and forget everything that they announced previously to launch, because the game has not much of what has been announced like a couple of years ago. But it is basically a mix of Lotro and Rift, with some WoW comming to it recently (not only because of the bugs, but also the servers being frequently unavailable due to maintenance and some combat challenges that remind Crusader’s Coliseum). Is it worth the 60 bucks? Yes. Is it a great game? No.

It really just comes down to this.

When most people are happy, they usually don’t find the need to talk about it. They are happy, so they just enjoy being happy.

When most people are angry, they usually want to find a way to vent that anger, often by telling someone about it. This usually makes forums into a very negative place, especially if anything happens that can be considered controversial.

Are they wrong to do so? Heavens no, feel free. Just don’t assume that nobody is happy. We exist. Trust me.

There’s a reason this forum is worse. A big “Elephant in the Room” type reason. See, GW2 is taking a big slice of that Elephant’s revenue. The Elephant is not dying yet but you can count on the more successful GW2 is, the louder that Elephant is going to scream.

Over a hundred of my guildies are online atm. Most everyone loves the game, the only grumbles I see are hard to reach vistas, annoyed at WvW map completion (when we are losing), and the occassional complaint about mob density in Orr.

It’s not a terrible game.

People just mad because the game was advertised as a PvP grind free MMO, it is no such thing.

This is like a more casual WoW/EQ in many regards, I got my $60 out of this.

edit: People will come and go from this game, everyone I know that bought this game and all those I befriended in game have since stopped playing.

If you are after an MMO that you will play for years this is not it, ArenaNet is pulling all stops to get money from the gem store and judging from the turn around in game direction they aren’t having much luck.

They are releasing new content instead of fixing or improving on current content in an attempt (successful) IMO to temporarily increase revenue. From my perspective however this is bad practice for any MMO that wants longevity.

Will you get your $60 out of this game? Definitely.

Would I recommend this to you? No.

Although, I don’t play the game anymore, I feel that the game easily surpasses most other MMOs (inlcuding WoW) in terms of content, replayability, etc.. WoW and other MMOs did not have this much content initially, had many bugs, and definitely wasn’t as fun. The art work in GW2 is top tier.

I quit the game because they are introducing Vertical Progression slowly as the game progresses further down the timeline.

If you don’t mind stats and gear changing every few months or so, pick the game up — it’s definitely worth your money. Although, there are more issues than just VP, it’s an overall solid MMO.
