Just did it a second time for daily and can’t figure out how it could be impossible. Slightly slower now but not any where near difficult in the random groups I was in at least.

The zerg has always been terrible at killing it. Before the zergs came along, you used to be able to solo it in half the time they usually take. Blame all the leechers – they make everything that scales worse.

Or better yet, blame the scaling itself.

So either stand on the box(or similar range) or melee? What is the point of eliminating the midrange option? Those are the only people that would get hit by the barrage.

The barrage hits on the box. Stay within 900 range and dance through the electric fields, stand on the box and dodge/block/invul the barrage, or play ranger/engi and mash 1.

I don’t mind the class imbalance that much considering what guardians/mesmers can do to some other bosses, or ice bows for that matter.

I did Golem yesterday with most of the zerg standing in the normal location on the boxes, and we didn’t have any problems. There were some jokers in map chat shouting stuff like “OMG! 2 minutes in and it’s only down to 80% health. We’re gonna fail!” It died after about 8 to 9 minutes, leaving plenty of time to spare out of the 15 minute timer. That seems roughly on par with the times I had seen prior to the 6/23 update.

It did seem that burning was helping quite a bit. At times when the boss health rate wasn’t dropping as fast, it seemed to have fewer stacks of burning (< 20), but when there were 40+ stacks of burning, the golem’s health was dropping at a fairly rapid rate. So I’m wondering if those maps having difficulty aren’t stacking enough burning?

tl;dr – ranged zerg on boxes still works fine – just bring enough burning (fire fields for projectile combos, etc)

Using Fire Elemental Powders on Golem Mark II will also extremely help with DPS. So far, on every instances I’ve seen on Golem Mark II only one other casts it, or none other at all. The lasts 5 minutes and are not affected by electric fields. If more people throw them we may save minutes.

Fire Elemental Powders can be bought from Jhalles Coalgrip.
