Download Size/Time Question
Thanks for the update! I’m on a business trip and currently using hotel internet. I can’t believe i’m saying this, but I’ve never missed my xfinity\comcast connection so much. i’m getting around ~200\250 kBps…it’s been almost 24 hours and I’m still not done yet (15.5GB). Hotel internet, even the upgraded paid option, is flat out awful. At least I know I’m looking at about 22GB.
Okay good to know my internet is just as bad as hotel internet I got 230 Kbps most of the time
I brought this game yesterday and downloaded it over night total of 12 hours and it only got me to 2% then the Power got cut off were I live and this launcher don’t pause downloads so the whole thing had to redo
It doesn’t redo. It does look like it but it actually starts from where it left off. You can start and stop downloading without losing progress.
ANet may give it to you.
To those downloading the game, it’s now possible to start playing before the game finishes downloading by adding -StreamingClient to the end of the target line on your Guild Wars 2 shortcut.
“To try out content streaming, add -StreamingClient to the end of the target line on your Guild Wars 2 shortcut. When you next launch and patch the game, there will be a marker on the progress bar that shows you how much you’ll need to download before the game will be playable. Once the progress bar reaches that marker, you’ll be able to jump right in and start playing.
If you’re a new player, you’ll experience a seamless game through character creation, your tutorial instance, and any of the five level 1–15 starting zones. If you go to an area you haven’t downloaded yet, you can prioritize downloading that area while continuing to play or you can wait at the map loading screen.”

It’s counting files remaining, which it says over at the right of the bar how many there are. You can check by seeing how many there are now, stopping, restarting, and you’ll see that it’s the new, lower number of files remaining.
It is confusing, but it starts the count at zero % done of the files that still need to be downloaded.

I don’t know if I am doing something wrong or if it isn’t available yet, but there is no target for -StreamingClient.
Edit: Sorry I fixed it, I had to add a space!

I’m downloading my account right now and I’ve been downloading it for about 15 minutes and I’m at 9% I hope it doesn’t take all day, since I’m downloading it at work.
I’ve been downloading for about 90 minutes, and am at 90%. Currently 30k files left to download, but I’ve had a steady 4MB/s download speed, with instances up to 7MB/s, so it’s been going fairly quickly.
I did not realize that it was going to be this large, I would have started it last night so I could play this morning :/
So long i waited for this game, how large dat file?

If it’s not finished you can try the streaming client beta. But I’m honestly not sure how good it is. I think it should work for you (says works for new players) so here’s the details about it – https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/coming-soon-beta-version-of-streaming-client/

The same. Dat is the only big file in the game folder.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Updating again – my total .dat file size is now 24.3 Gb for those who need to know.
So long Treeface.
“…Kormir? I know not of whom you speak.”
IIRC the gw2.dat file is compressed as its downloaded, so the actual download size seems to be larger than the final .dat
For example my .dat is at 8.5 GB currently, but my launcher says I’ve downloaded 15 GB so far.
I’m on 1.5Mbps DSL, and it’s been two days. I might get to play next week, maybe >_>
Love the bump warning for old threads, btw, but hopefully the “Keeping this thread open to keep info in one place” thing still holds true, as I didn’t want to start a new thread for this ongoing discussion.

That’s strange. Is that 24 hours a day or off and on? Because it took me less than one day (iirc about 6 hours) to download the game at 1-2MB/sec.
