Easiest/hardest professions to level?
I have two 80’s and a bunch of mid level chars.
Warrior and Engie are 80 the I have tried every other class to a point.
Engineer is hard, unless you use kits, I see so many new Engies running around with pistols or rifles hell even flamethrower, I often whisper them and tell them to try bombs and nades as it is a lot higher in damage. But even with kits (nades are not easy to level with) you are still switching skills a lot to maintain good burst.
Warrior was super easy, greatsword/axe-mace/longbow/ cruise through mobs.
Same for guardian for me. Necro seemed the easiest over all.
The one I will never 80 is mesmer.
For me. Easiest to hardest (most tedious)
Ranger
Necro
Engineer
Guardian
Warrior
Mesmer
Thief
…
to repeat a question asked 9 months ago:
Interesting topic but why necro it?
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I found that Elementalist is the easiest to level for me, followed by Necromancer, Warrior, Mesmer, Guardian and lastly Thief. I tried an Engineer but got so bored with it that I deleted it and made a second Ele, charr this time.
For me, personally it’s like this
(Easiest on top, hardest on the bottom):
- Guardian
- Ranger
- Warrior
- Elementalist
- Necromancer
- Thief
- Engineer
- Mesmer
For me the hardest was elementalist. I started with Mesmer, and found that in the early days of the game leveling was easier than it is now, a couple years ago the game was just easier to level with. The elementalist turned out to be challenging enough I deleted and did a Guardian, which was stupid easy, just stack up the armor and swing a greatsword at everything you run across. The engineer I started afterwards though is much squishier and I have to think more strategically. I find it more challenging than using my mesmer because mesmer has a ton of mobility with teleports and invisibility if you play right, which can make a difference on survival although I think the engineer has WAY better aoe damage. Actually, ALL classes have better aoe than mesmer. Thief felt middle of the road for me, I liked the invisibility giving me good survival though and capping skill points or other hard to take spots were often way too easy thanks to extended invisibility. Ranger feels easier to me, not as easy as a guardian but still not challenging as long as you let the pet take agro first and use your range well. I refuse to do warrior after creating a guardian, way too stupid easy. Necro I will get to one day.
Ranger is easiest by far. There’s a reason it’s the most popular bot profession.
I hated leveling Mesmer, Ranger and Ele. I loved leveling Guardian Warrior Thief and Necro, all were super easy. Engi was a mixed bag, I actually played 1-79 using all condis and having fun learning how everything worked taking my time, and then went full zerk when I hit 80. Engi was a learning experience for me, I enjoyed it, but I dont think I could level another. On the flip side, Mesmer became my main (now ex-main, bad divorce as of 4/15/14) and Ranger Ele and Engi are my fav classes
ranger is by far the easy class go bear/bow/Gs and let him tank he can take allot of damage and have tons of HP ad so lvl 80 with full beast master a bear have easy 53k HP
also his HP will generate alot back with some good traits in beast master
and the hardest class for me is Mesmer
Imho everything is quite easy, even Elementalist (was my first char, if you manage to have up-to-date Equip, it’s not a problem at all), just the Mesmer is somehow PITA, because slow…
The easiest are of course Ranger/Warrior/Guardian, but also, boring as hell….
15 l80’s; From easiest to hardest: (I do not like engi and will not comment on engi)
Warrior
Once healing signet gets unlocked you just faceroll everything, I an through areas being 3-5 levels underleveled and killed anything, at 3 levels underleveled some vets an be a challenge sometimes. GS and or Axe/warhorn melee all the way, but take a rfle or LB just in case. conditions builds are not usefull when running warrior. hybrids are semi viable @l80. Rifle is always less viable then LB even though the range is better.
(generally power builds)
Ranger
Even though this is not the strongest class the fact you will outrange so many foes, still doing decent dmg with a quite powerfull ally (pet) makes you roll through everythiing easy, and your pet can and will ress you if you make a mistake. As long as you keep distance you can kill anything and when asisted you’ll be able to gte bags from content at 3 levels underleveled with no problem. Sword is very confusing to play and gets me desorientated and confused each time I use it.
LB for the win, I used an axe/warhorn for secondary, but GS also works fine. conditions ask for a lot of flanking which tends to be not always possible…
(Ranger is a jack of all trades, master at Longbow& pets only)
Guardian
Well as long as you do not forget to heal it tends to be easy.. It teaches you to dodge very well, even at low levels melee is fun GS/Staff or S+F/Staff . On both guardians I own, I do not have a scepter. scepter can do dmg from great range but there are few if any places I would want to use it over S+F, GS or staff. F2 is an instant (small) heal it will save you often if you are distracted for a second… Mace is a nice experience but not viable unless you can dedicate points to healing next to power.
(Power only…. buffing/healing (M+S/Staff) is nice but slows levelling.)
Necro
I found levelling my necro quite easy as you have a huge healthpool, can bring 5 Minions to tank and have an emergency healthpool if things go awry.. A/D & D/D (power) OR S/D and staff (condi). Make sure you learn to use the deathshroud
MM power/ MM condi, power, condi, hybrid all viable. MM not for dungeons.
Mesmer
it took me a long time to figure out how to play mesmer,(GS as ranged weapon tends to be strange and staff as close combat weapons as well) and I actually avoided veterans and up as I found it very difficult to stay alive, I love my conditions mesmer, and hate the power one…BUT I’d go power again for levelling.
GS/S+* (offhand is a matter of preference, I’d advise pistol, but sword and focus will do as well)
(I love condi mesmer, but power is definately more viable…)
Thief (started out using D/D, later switched to P/P that made it easier, just make sure you keep 1 stealth for escaping and for additional speed I tend to take SB
(power, hybrid, condi all viable)
Elementalist (started out trying scepter, then went staff and later switched to D/D which seems easy untill Orr where I switched to back to staff.. Not so easy, but now I understand the class my second ele was levelled in 2 days… mostly in wvw firebombing lootbags… best score 35 bags with a MS and a firestorm. Second I levelled with staff all the way. Make sure you learn about healing… skill 6 is not for healing… staf W3+blast, water 5+Blast and water attunement tend to be much more usefull, also for your party/ people in the neighbourhood…
power for leveling, then afterwards power build or all stat. Power Aoe Fire Ele does most dmg ingame, also very squishy
Gear needs to be withing 5 levels of character level to be usefull, due to the NPE
For all characters except the heavy classes: bring a hard hitting ranged weapon, bring decent utility (when you can). and use a power build (power 1-20)(power/precision 21-55)(Power/precision/ferocity 56->up), for fastest levelling.
if you die easily try to figure out why, do you forget to heal?, forget to dodge?, forget to use buffs, come to close?, are you underleveled to much?, are you outnumbered vastly?, are you fighting a champion of same or higher level?,an elite of same or higher level?, a veteran of higher level? more then 2 or 3 enemies (this shouldn’t be a problem with aoe or cleaving attacks but if you still are using a single target weapon it tends to be very nasty..)?
if you really like conditions lvl 80 is the time to tink about it, I levelled my nnecro using a conditions build and later levelled another one using power, power is easier,, less frustrating and way more versatile doing hearts and stuff…
Not being able to destroy objects using a conditions build is probably the worst fail in GW2. If I shoot a door using arrows I kill it in seconds, If I set it on fire nothing happens
Learn about condi-caps before running conditions.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

Guardian is easy mode, everything else is fun mode.
