Ehm. Why was my observation based on salvaging 2k rares per month completely ignored? I thought that was far more interesting than all the dirt throwing back and forth? Or is the OP not interested in observations that do not correspond to his own?

There is no such thing as a stealth nerf. There are multiple players who track statistics such as ecto salvaging over time, and if the rate were to change dramatically they will know about it. The devs have publicly stated that they do not make unannounced changes of this nature, and the damage such an action would do to the game and their own reputations far outweigh any benefits that action may have.

I don’t salvage in large numbers, but when I salvage three or four rares I’m just as likely to get six ectos as two. It evens out over time, if you believe differently the best thing you can do is to write down the results of every salvage so that you can calculate the average rate over hundreds or thousands of salvages instead of claiming that a single incident is an indication of a problem.

Not complaining but..

Early November, getting 2 or 3 Ectos were not a problem – it’s a common sight for me. Now, it has become a rarity. Now, I’m happy to even get 3 for every 7 rares I salvage. Bad ratio compared to early November based on my experience.

Maybe just bad luck huh.

The ecto salvage thing is terrible. Basically it’s gambling. You gamble your 25-30s item against an ecto. When you get a losing streak is sucks. When you get a winning streak it’s quickly forgotten…

A huge QOL improvement would to just make ectos 1:1. No more groups of 3, just you salvage a rare you get an ecto. You salvage an exotic you get a glob and an ecto or maybe even 2?

Except SAN the quality of salvage kit changes the ratios. A BLSK gives you more than a master/mystic kit does. Also if you do it to ectos you should do it to the standard materials you are getting in which case it becomes easy to estimate the salvage cost of any salvageable item which will likely fix a price for every item. The advantage of a variable amount of mats including ectos is it makes the value of an item “fuzzy”. And sometimes you can be pleasantly surprised and hit the “jackpot” and other times you come up short. Salvaging items should be speculative.

I’ve been keeping track for a while now. In 769 rares I salvaged since I started, the ratio I’ve been getting is about 40% to 45% to 7.5% to 7.5% for 0,1,2 and 3 ectos with master/mystic kits which comes out to 0.825 per.

I am not aware this question as been asked before… Why am I getting responses like I have asked this question 50 million times before?

You haven’t asked it before, but regular forum readers see it asked… often . Probably not more than about 104 times, so our sample size may not be as large as we’ like . Its a common concern, but while the one known exception is ALWAYS held up, it really is just random distribution at work. Some days/weeks/months you just get a disappointing return.

I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
