We’ll go into more detail soon, just to re-iterate so it’s clear:

“The next round of major features will be bundled together into a large “feature only” release that will come after the first season of the Living World 2014 has finished.”

A feature release is not an expansion, it’s a release focused on game features. Examples of game features we’ve done in the past would be: guild missions, account achievement system, spectator mode, new pvp maps, daily world boss chests, removing culling and giving visibility options, the WvW WxP system, etc.

Still no actual examples of stuff we will get? Nothings done/nearly done enough to give us some kind of taste of whats going to be in the feature build?

What about the maintenance patch next Tuesday, any info on that one?

I’m beginning to think that Colin is a robot or an A.I. because he seems to be stuck in a repetition loop.

That’s what happens when people ask the same question over and over.

Robot or not, if we get new guild missions, I may just fly to Seattle and kiss him on the mouth.

That is not what he said! But I did expect some new additions to the guild-mission. Some new challenges some new rushes and some new puzzles.

What I would like to see there would be really some new missions.

Back when they released the guild-mission the said they made it very easy to add new missions and so we would going to see that. As far as I know all they add where a few new bounty’s (that is not very interested) a few new trek locations (anybody still doing the trek?) and a new puzzle (very much appreciated) but that was it and no new guild-missions so far.

But yeah, lets hope we do get some new stuff there, some new missions and some addition to the challenge, rush and puzzles. That would be nice. They are starting to become a little repetitive by now.

Since the april 2nd release sounds like it will be different, what Im expecting:
-A new zone
-New skills(that are actually useful this time)
-New skins
-New regular mainstream dungeon that is no different reward wise than the current ones(if they dare put in some quirky resource to be gathered or something in this – dungeon I will flip out)
-Current dungeons revamped
-Open world content revised and meaningful. Participating in open world content and dynamic events throughout all zones have meaning and are rewarding….i.e. the end of funneling us into one zone.
-Bug polish and class balances.

Doesnt have to be ALL of that, but most of it. If its anything less than that, I’ll probably just concede my time in GW2 and delete the game finally.

First off, no one said the ‘Features’ patch will be April 2nd. Secondly, I don’t think there will be a new zone, or new dungeons. Colin just stated what kind of things to expect. Your expectations may be too high.

Thanks Colin, it is not clear yet, but at least we know that it would be just something similar to guild missions, account achievement system, spectator mode, new pvp maps, daily world boss chests, removing culling and giving visibility options, the WvW WxP system, etc. Nothing more, nothing less.
I like that kind of update, so I just hope that the rest of the players read it too and don’t believe something else is coming…

I’m wondering two things now, how long a break should we expect and just how much is in the really big feature patch (for PVP, WvW, PvE, Dungeons)? It’s better to start managing expectations very soon rather than continue to let speculation spiral.

From the eurogamer interview linked above.

“When [Living World Season One] ends [on 4th March], we’re going to take a break for a little bit and then we’re going to do one really big feature patch that is more akin to what people see from some of our [MMO] competitors,” said Johanson, "where they bundle a lot of features together into a really big patch every now and then.

Since they’ve said that the LS will by synced between East and West, it’s probably safe to wager that we won’t see more LS until China launches. So, sometime late spring early summer would be my guess.

As for the feature patch, I’m not even going to speculate what we’re going to get. (Cmon pve skin locker!) Although I’m sort of leaning towards seeing it mid to late April myself.

Still, I’ll enjoy the LS break. I can focus on leveling some more chars.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

What GW 2 needs – Randomness

- Random doors/rooms, random location of trash mobs & bosses, find loot (random location), don’t just reward it for dungeons.

- Hidden Doors and Map locations that require new skills to find them.
- Hidden Traps & Chests, that require Skills to find, disarm & open.
- NPC’s with story that can join you or join them to do events and exploring.
- Random Bosses & Random locations, not more gimmick Boss mechanics.
- New Skills.
- New Races.
- New Areas, give us something besides Orr for high level characters, with random mobs at random locations and non scheduled Events (random).
- New Player Elements (Homes, mounts, businesses).
- Allow players to craft items that can be moved/sold/traded with NPC’s across the open world.
- More Role play elements.

For PvP, there is going to be a lot. They are removing our rewards system. The assumption is that they’ll actually replace it with the next patch. Of course this also leads to the expectation that PvP won’t be without rewards until June. If it is, you can expect a small riot before the exodus of the remaining pvp players.

By the sounds of it, this is just a traditional patch. There are new games releasing, what’s to stop us from leaving this game?

People keep throwing new races out there. A new race is not coming anytime soon. For the same reason they will never let you have a “race Change” ability from GEM STORE. The entire “Character Story (I know over 50% people don’t give a kitten about them)” is based on race, so by changing race you’d “miss out on the whole story (again I would not care but this is the ANET argument)”. So a race would be a HUGE undergoing and would be released with AT LEAST 3 zones I would guess (Town, 1-15 starting zone, 15-30ish leveling zone all races have) but maybe and hopefully a 4th zone that is a new end game zone with dungeon. This will probably be in an expansion somewhere down the road. Not in a feature update I can promise you that.

What will probably be in update

Due to comments from around the web most likely things in this feature update are

PVP new battle options (finger crossed for Guild Battles) it was confirmed they will be adding new modes to PVP in the Spring/Summer Feature Patch

Guilds – Been hinted that more guild options are going to be added as well as some sort of “Ground work for Guild Halls”. The story that is most common is the ability to buy some sort of ‘Deed’ or ‘Title’ to Guild Hall that will be coming in future

More Living Story – pretty much the main focus despite its obvious set backs story is getting better and better (although it is limited)

  • New Armor * – This is the only one that is huge assumption on my part but they always seem to throw in some random armor skins on patches and this is big patch so be prepared. Also I would guess at more town clothes which people have been asking for a lot for some reason.

AGAIN THIS IS NOT THE LIST OF THINGS I WANT, this is a list of things that have been hinted at through interviews by ANET.

I got to thinking about it and logic has led me to the following conclusion:

They really wanted to get the feature patch out right after the LS, maybe even 2 weeks after the end of it (start of April), but realized they didn’t have enough content to really amaze and convince people to not go try ESO.

So they decided to cut their losses and bank on people trying ESO, not liking it, and drawing them back with an even bigger patch after WvW season 2.

Since he game is F2P, they don’t have to really worry about extended revenue drop, as they can draw people back with a really impressive patch; at least that is the assumption.

As to why they don’t even teaser a single tidbit of information, that I cannot really understand. They can easily hype at this stage for a “soon” patch, like they did in January. It isn’t like they could possibly catch more flak from the community at this stage.

But we need a new race since the Moa race is gone.

A new race would also mean a new Personal Story for level 1-30 and you would have problems to integrate the new race in the Zaithan story arc. Tengus for example would only need a new town.

But in principle a new race would fit much better in LW than in a feature-only patch.

I would speculate that at the rate ANet is going, being tied down with China Release and living story (which is NOT going away), they are going to do this big feature patch then add some events here and there, maybe one dungeon and MANY bug fixes, and let that coast them through the year, with of course the living story. I think it will about a year before we see actual expansion with new zones and races. Sorry to say. In good news these patch updates that have been talked about are exciting!

Yea, I wish we would hear something, but I get the impression that things are a bit behind schedule right now and I’m guessing that they’re still not sure what they can have ready by next Tues or are at least nor prepared to release as much as they initially expected.

If that’s the case, I’m fine with it, but I kinda wish we could get a bit more insight.

I suspect Anet would give us more than a month of tease and/or warning of a patch that is truly “expansion-sized.” When I think “expansion” I think of GW1 Factions or EotN. Those had 10x more more content than any GW2 patch. In fact I’d say they had 10x more content than all the GW2 patches combined.

Wowstar is just World of Warcraft in space, much like SWTOR. I watched several of my friends get hyped to all hell for Wowstar, and basked in their massive disappointment when they played the beta. If people are in to that sort of thing, I say let them leave.

ESO is in a similar boat. Same friends played it and said after 30 minutes they just wanted to go back to Skyrim. If people would rather play a watered-down multiplayer Skyrim instead of GW2, then let them.

I wouldn’t hold my breath for an expansion sized patch. They’ve thrown us breadcrumbs of content every two weeks so far to keep us buzzed while they work on something else. I’m guessing its the China release, not a massive patch or expansion. Best bangs for your bucks imho, in terms of corporate profits anyway. Once that’s done with then things should pick up.

But hey, only anet knows for sure. We’ll see.

Sort of have to agree here. Wildstar is really for a specific type of people for my WoW combined with aliens does not work.

ESO could be interesting, especially there version of WvW that looks much cooler then GW2’s version but will not be interesting until it gets B2P or F2P.

The biggest thread for GW2 will be EQN and thats at least a year out. Anet can really thank the MMO gods for not really having any real competitors since release and for at least another year. Well I think ESO might go F2P sooner then that but games that change there payment model tent to be less popular.

OR!!!! They could play gw1 to learn something about game developement.

Seriously my expections are so low, not even a piece of paper would get through.

I really don’t know how long I am going to play gw2 more, i play since beta and im pretty finished with the whole game (pve / wvw / pvp) and over the past ~ 5 Months i just grind dungeons and do “living story” so yeah i would 100% buy an expension just to see some new content (living story is no content for me).

But if they are not going to release some good new features or classes or precurser crafting or skills or….. I probably going to play another game but not ESO or Wildstar they are both crap, probably some Reaper of souls maybe? I’m not sure but we will see.

Overall GW2 is a good game (if you dont compare it with gw1), but after so much time players need an expension like in gw1 with tons of new dungeons, map, classes, skills and SOOO much more.

Yeh had a bit to QQ but thats just because there is so much unused potential in gw2 that makes me sad :/

Or, they could just not care at all about ANY competitor releases on the horizon?

There’s no monthly fee to maintain, and Arenanet stakeholders and investors see the impact the game will have in China.

The development team/content design/Living World won’t be impacted by competitor releases, because they’re still firing on all cylinders to release content at a speed no other game development company has attempted.

I say just kick back, enjoy the games of your choice as they become available/improved, but be sure to come see what new goodies we get from the Feature Patch.

There is some really serious misunderstanding here. Many of you confuse CONTENT with FEATURE.

New classes, new races, new areas, new dungeons / armors / weapons etc. that’s CONTENT.

Achievement system, Wallet, new way of crafting (precursors maybe?), stuff based on mostly already existing content but adds different options of playing or modifies something in the core system (new scheme / math behind looting, changes to crit damage being converted to ferocity and things like that, fine tuning / remaking already existing content that is built into core gameplay (runes I’m thinking of here), an added reputation system for factions / races / areas and orders, etc. are FEATURES.

There is a LOT difference. Anyone who expects an expansion type of patch with new areas and things like that, will be helplessly disappointed I can pretty much garantee that.

Good points SaltyDave, this feature patch could be a massive disappointment to many people who are expecting more than it will deliver. This is partially because expectations aren’t being managed so people are assuming a lot, that’s human nature I think.

Especially those who crafted celestial.

I have yet to buy a single gem since they announced the change and will not until I see how they will compensate if at all those people.

Also, its kinda the last straw for me. I gave them a year and so far I have not been happy with the direction the game has went. This is the last chance for me personally to stick around.

Then most people will think what they get on April 1st must be an April’s Fools Day joke.

“The next round of major features will be bundled together into a large “feature only” release that will come after the first season of the Living World 2014 has finished.”

Would you mind telling us whether or not the large feature only release will occur before or after the WvWvW spring tournament?

Well that other game is releasing June 3rd so expect a decent patch there.

Likewise there will be one for WoD release.

You have gotten what you paid for, all that remains is biweekly gemshop pushing.

People who actually care about GW2 will stay.

Nope. I actually care.

Uninstalled the game yesterday. Why? The game is in a sad state and the DEV’s seem not to listen.
So I’m making a point, a statement so to say:

“I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!”

I guess all of those CDI topics and threads with dev responses mean nothing to you. Not sure what more you are expecting.

Also, welcome to the “I uninstalled the game so that I could talk about how much I uninstalled the game” bandwagon.

I fear, people highly underestimate the potential effect of ESO on GW2.

The reason there will be no big content updates in April is probably, that everyone at ANet is going to play ESO to learn at least from AvA.

You have literally no idea what goes on in a studio do you?

An overreaction is just that, but people are not wrong to be put off by the situation. Whatever transparency you think is coming out of the CDI project, it doesn’t seem to be having any tangible effect on any near-term projects. Those projects slated sometime soon TM.

Kind of like if I was the guy who designed the Audi, and I offered to take suggestions about how it could be improved to make people feel engaged. I could make all kind of positive statements, “thank you for that great idea!! We will certainly consider it!!” and so on…. and then just do whatever I want, and ignore the feedback.

If you can’t/won’t release information on upcoming changes, your next best step is to make people feel like they are having an impact even if they aren’t. Look at the poor ranger CDI if you really think that is working well.

You know what’d be nice ? If Anet finally took a look at their dungeons to fix things, like for example, Arah p3 WP that have no reason at all to be there…Yes it’s something extremely minor and after nearly 2 years, that’s what makes it sad.

Sadly all I see from this, and other responses is that WvW is going to be left with nothing new till almost June because of Season 2. Going to be well over 6 months since Account bound Wxp was announced, no “fix” to coverage wars, no new balancing for nearly that long…I just don’t know what we have to do to get stuff for WvW that should have been in the game from the beginning. I don’t even want to talk about structured PvP.

I don’t understand that…Why launch Season 2 when none of the problems of S1 are fixed ?

Oops I forgot, they added EotM so people in winning server won’t be bored…
