Would love to be able to make a note next to the names in my friend list. whether its how we met or any other info that would help me remember who they are or anything else i feel is note worthy to that name. it would be so helpful, my brain just doesn’t remember things the way it use to ha ha, so i go thru my friend list and wonder who are they and why did i add them lol . Anyone else think a note next to a name in your friend list would be a great idea???

That’s what I use the rename option for. You can get a pretty decent sentence in there.

Hadn’t thought of that of that either, thanks Vayne.

And yes, it’s still a good idea.

Or (in addition to?) allow you to put a URL in there that actually works, then you can go leave notes anywhere you want (evernote; screen shot a memory w/ chat log and throw it on imgur; etc) and have a link to it from in game.

Nice idea notebene

Yeah, I do what Vayne does. I usually write a few key words that helps me jog my memory (e.g. where I met the person, what I was doing or what we talked about). I do the same for blocked people too, to tell me if it’s a gold-seller or something else, so I know when it’s safe to unblock people to clear things out a bit

If you don’t mind a little cluttered friends-list, it’s definitely a good solution. I’d recommend trying to be as concise as you possibly can, otherwise it can look a bit muddled and confusing.

A hint on using the Rename: remember or write down the original display name. Then retype that in first before writing your note. The UI clears the field completely when you select rename and sometimes you want to know the player’s handle later on. “Good Norn RPer” tells me nothing about how to spot them on the forums

Eh, I wish this game had what CoH added in.

You could actually click on a character and use the menu to pop open a little window where you could write notes for yourself on any player, attached to the global name, not the character, and only seen by you. No friend listing needed, which was good for making notes on more troublesome players, no matter what character they were logged into at the time.

I use that feature occasionally but it could use work. The nickname/information replaces the Display name, the name.1244. When the person is offline it only shows the nickname. When the person is online it show the char name they are on and then the nickname. The only way to bring the Display name back is to remove the nickname.

Edit: I wish this game had what Pockets (above) mentioned. A way to click on a person and add notes. That would be really useful for people I’ve noticed one way or another, but not enough to friend or block.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

110% love this idea. I’ve met quite a few good random people that I’ve played several evenings with and then I take a break for awhile and go back I can’t remember who I did what with… It’s like going on a date and not having a second one because you can’t remember their kitten name. My memory isn’t that great. Having notes would be excellent. If I can’t remember how I know a person, it’s kind of useless having them on my friends list.
