It is a potential issue.

People can say it’s not, as much as they like, but the truth is that if something like this is available, most people will require people to use it (especially for PUGs, or whatever) and it’s a slippery slope.

It’s the same with DPS meters.

If they are available, even if only to the player, people will require people to post their DPS.

Sometimes that might be a good thing, with certain unfairly maligned classes, but more often than not, it will not be.

I’ve been through all this in WoW.

Allowing inspection, measuring and third party stuff never seems to end well and turns the game into paint by numbers.

Maybe people want to play paint by numbers – that’s not your call to make.

Telling people they have no right to express their opinion isn’t your call to make.

And where precisely did the poster do that? He’s saying that the other poster has no right to dictate how other people play. And that’s completely correct.

Exactly – thank you – I’m trying to say that if I want to play excel simulator DPS meter 2.0 that’s MY right to do – and it isn’t his call to tell me how to play the game and enjoy it.

- if it wasn’t GW2 efficiency I’m sure other tools would be used. This is not an issue.

no matter what tool it is it is a major issue . just some people are too blind to see it as such . but still it is a major problem and one a lot of people want not a thing to do with at all. and this with scribing will only hurt guilds. as some will see this and say hey no thanks and not take a invite or anything and they just might even block you .

I have a feeling a guild who recruits and requires GW2 efficiency in order to clear you for raids is going to not have a problem with players that feel offended by that not joining.

It’s about looking for a certain type of player – if you’re not that type of player you don’t matter really.

the same can be said for guilds too maybe they are not the type of guild you want to belong to . thus they do not matter sounds like a two way street to me

agreed with you on this and maybe the fix in some way if this is bond to happen . and they want to play that said raid bad enough . maybe make up all the armor suits and so forth used with all the runes . and keep them in your banks maybe is a costly but yet easy fix ???

Gearscore ruined more than a few games. People stop playing to have fun and start playing to extend their “numbers”. The biggest problem comes after a few months of having a gearscore in place because it spreads like some sort of STD and most people start using it for any type of group activity.
The problem comes when you either intentionally or unintentionally alienate new players who don’t have the gear or older players who dont have the time to devote to getting the gear. Last I checked full exotic was not that far off from full ascended with the exception of AR.
Using any type of gearscore will introduce a hard number people will be expected to be at in order to group. If you think people using a gearscore application will stop at raiding, I must apologize in advance for saying this, but that makes you naive.

I’d rather be playing the game than writing this post.

This is a potential issue in the same way that the LFG requirements are an issue. It’s not.

Give raids a little bit more time. Once every trick, pattern, etc. has been thoroughly dissected and examined, raids will be able to be run with nearly anyone. Just like dungeons, world bosses, etc.

As far as things like this being a requirement. There is nothing wrong with wanting to play with people of a certain mindset, or have certain builds. That is their choice. There is no one compelling anyone to use this, if they are, they probably are not type of people you should be running with anyway. Such people tend to be petty and cranky when something happens that they don’t like.

I’m saying that for those guilds that are using GW2 efficiency as a tool – the people that would be offended by this screening process do not matter because they most likely wouldn’t have made suitable candidates anyway.
Is it clearer now?

Efficiency driven guilds look for efficiency driven players – players that usually will have nothing against sharing their status because they’re on point.

On the other hand – a person less willing to share his status will be less likely to be an efficiency driven player and thus will be a less important candidate for an efficiency based guild.

It’s the bigger picture. Content that requires this kind of “screening” has no place in a game with a sloppy UI, slow combat mechanics and a 90% casual playerbase that’s limited to 12-15 buttons to click.

It’s like adding live fire and barbed wire to an apple dunking contest.

Some of your claims are absurd.
GW2’s combat mechanics are not slow – going more towards an FPS reflex skill type gameplay than most MMOs.
GW2’s 12-15 buttons to click do not make the game casual or hardcore – the number of buttons to click is irrelevant.

Look at other super competitive hardcore games – CS:GO – or Dota 2 – how many buttons do you have there? More than 15?

GW2 is changing – it was casual focused for 3 years – now that focus is shifting.

The only people who would have a problem with this are the ones who expect to be carried and refuse yo gear up properly. If a guild asked me for this info, personally id view it as a positive thing. Helping guildies is great as long as they are willing to take direction. Then again maybe ive carried one too many dead weights in my zerk only pug runs, so im a bit saltier towards such people. +1 for gear checks!
