Hey peoples, i play gw2 10+ hours/day and at some point i though i had things to say about this game. in the first place i will present myself for let you know what’s going on,
the point is not to make myself proud or anything just to try to have some legitimity and maybe then not talk to a wall.
wall of text inc. lot of things to say.

English is not my native language and even if i will try my best to be understood there might be some mistakes.

i play video games since counter strike 1.3 and i’m 28yo.
but i started to play full time 5 years ago, i decided i wanted to have this life and i’m happy with it.
i have never done something really “big” in any game but i explored the end game content everytime.

i played wow like most of you, i played 2 years with a top 50 EU Guild (due to the amount of peoples playing wow it was pretty decent it meant top 1/2 on my server), mostly on wotlk and cataclysm. reached 2k2 in 2v2 arena if that mean anything.
played lol for 3 seasons and peaked at 2k4 elo at my best
played diablo 3 for 3 month and did some rank 1 world on diablo-progress
explored the end game content of Rift and Tera aswell.
and played bunch of other games.

but the reason why i’m writing this today is more about a personal experience, the game i played and liked the most was Aion. from it’s beggining to the f2p thing i played it as much as i could and did everything i dreamed about. but i can’t play this game anymore, gameforge kittened up everything.
and as much as i love gw2 i don’t want this to happen and everyday i’m like “ew.. what’s the point of that?”
once you have this question and you don’t know what’s the point to do this or that in a game soonish the end is.

a game makes you woke up early because you dream about and you want to play it, you have goals to reach, items to get, fun to have.

i only play gw2 since 3 month or so and explored what i could explore in this timelapse, 6k ap, 3000 pvp games once my mmr was kittened up i started to understand how this game works and reached top 300 or so in both tpvp and solo q, full ascended stuff on 2 characters just because i didnt know what else to do. no legendaries tho i dislike the common thing of these skins even if some of them looks cool.

my suggestions :

PvP : i’ll be talking about spvp or tpvp but not about wvsw since i have not done it a lot. due to lags and the bus thing i have troubles enjoying wvw.

so, the PvP of gw2 remind me a lot of things from LoL, mostly due to the amount of teamplay and knowledge you need to be succeful at it.
i think it’s a good thing, gw2 is one of the most advanced game in therms of teamplay and strategy, but a bit to much based on that from my point of view, not to only compare to LoL where there is a lot of teamplay/synergy/strategy/rotation thing etc.

but LoL is succefull since the meta is evolving, and even if this game is teamplay based there is a big room for individual skill.
skill on gw2 is mostly knowledge and moves on the map, the part of skill playing your character right exists but is not worth a lot since you mostly have to play on a circle, this is ecouraging the tanky/passive builds and then the lack of skill, simply cuz the room to make mistakes when you are tanky is not the same as when you are squishy.
play with a high risk/high reward build is more difficult.
assassins exists in gw2 but mostly due to their advantadge of being where they need to be rather than being incredibly good at outplaying their oponent.
why outplaying your oponent is essential in a game? because it’s something that makes dream peoples. when you see X pro player in a game do something cool you want to do it, you want to press your keys as fast as this guy and it gives you a goal, it is also more spectacular and if gw2 is planning to go anywhere near eSport they need it.

why millions of peoples are watching the league of legend games? why i’m still watching it even if i don’t play lol anymore? because you can see skill happen, many times in LoL the meta was more bruiser like and passive, if it’s effective and easier to pull off peoples will do that, it was not fun to watch.
the main point of gw2 pvp is to play on a circle and if this game is going to be like this for life, i’ll just say you good luck anet for making anything big in eSports. 100k viewers watching passive and rotation based game would be big.

this game mode is the core of gw2 and i understand you can’t change anything from day to day and some peoples are used to it and good at it, they would maybe dislike this game to be more mechanicaly based rather than strategic.
i think the good old WoW arenas are missing, and i know many peoples agree with this.
since this game is mostly based on strategy what happened to the developers when they decided to do solo q on this mode? the team with the more sustain/mobility wins, good luck guys.
last point i want to talk about in pvp is the lack of goal, if you have no goal you finally just are on the game and you don’t know why, till you find another game that you know why you play it. give us goals anet. the only goal to be on top of a ladder where rerolls with clean mmr are the kings cannot be a goal. maybe farm legendaries in pvp?

PvE : the pve of gw2 remind me a lot of diablo. you get a high magic find rate then proceed to bash mobs/clean dungeons the faster as you can.
i mean it’s limited nah? diablo is a fun game, many peoples play it.. for like 2 month. after that they just are bored, there is no fun doing everyday the same stuff.
you can do it if you have a goal for it that makes you really want to continue this routine.
but the goal in gw2 is ?? ohh having a legendary weapon.. and after that? another one… meh ok..
this plus the fact that the gw2 pve content is really easy makes no challenge at all and no motivation for it. you want to be lvl 50 fractal? for what?…

i was hopeless for gw2 and had no idea about it since i knew talk about raids and challenging pve content would be way too much work for anet and they would chose the easy option to not think about it.
but once i tryed the new halloween laby farm it reminded me of devil may cry or some game like that where you are in a map full of mobs and you need to go the farther you can, or to survive to many waves.
i don’t know, some idea like this, it could be not so much work for anet and could be intresting, you could finally do pve with a goal.
like you are on the laby map and everytime you kill every mob you go to the next lvl and get to do it again but with harder mobs. etc,
peoples would try hard to go to lvl 369 or sth, there could be a ladder of the guy/team having done that, there could be titles every 100 lvls.

those peoples who wants to bus farm or to roflcopterstomp dongeons could continue to do it, but the peoples who wants to farm but having challenging content could do it aswell. maybe if at some lvl 500 or sth you could get a legendary but it would be extremely challenging that would make dream peoples. and that guy having his legendary by this way could say, guys i played gw2 i did that.

because actually on every aspect of the game it’s more like “guys i played gw2, was fun till i had my legendary after that i did another one and get bored of this kitten so i tryed out pvp and played on circles, i made another account to get a fresh mmr and went top 10.. tryed out wvw.. for some reason had freezes and blobing few weeks was enough fun for me.. i did all that while eating chips.. yeah.. such a great game bro, you should try it…”

if you want new peoples to come you want good echoes about your game, what should i say to my friends? hey come on gw2 you’ll have fun for 2 month dude.. it’s like convincing someone to buy diablo it makes no sense,
this game can be used only to have a break from another one, but play gw2 for years like the big online game names is too big for the actual content.
having the feeling like you are just here to buy the new cool stuff at the cash shop, we are not kittened anet. if you think we are dumb enough to stay on your game you are wrong, the developers who try to listen their players and give them dreams/fun earn more in the long run, type riot games on google please.

thanks for the read if you have readed it. i know anet will be too lazy for it but, i need them to understand the concept of having a goal and using skill is essential in a game or gw2 is rip in peperonis.

Players that play 10 hours a day may run out of content rather quickly. Perhaps, the Devs’ vision for the game was for a more conservative player. Not for someone who makes playing a game their life.

I doubt calling the Devs lazy will inspire them, though. /shrug

you got a point, but the notion of “skill” is here for more fun, for peoples like me and for the other peoples aswell. if i was playing 2hours a day after my work i’d rather play an intresting game than just do that.
and the problem of the “goal” is not something to hide since okay if you play a lot you reach your goals faster. but anyway someone playing less will reach them anyday and after that? they both quit? and your game is only based on publicity to have new players?

the system i have tryed to imagine about the survival thing with 500 levels is pretty much an endless goal.

if i talk about only wow and lol, there was endless goals. killing the heroic bosses before everybody on the planet is one. become rank 1 on lol over 60Millions of players is an endless goal and keep peoples playing because till they have not reached it yet they can dream about it.
that don’t mean casuals players won’t enjoy the game.
it’s the human nature, and that’s why video games are so popular over water polo or whatever, because here you can try yourself against the rest of the world, and not just being that guy doing his boring job and watching tv, because life makes us not dream anymore, video games gives you another chance, to do something epic, even if it’s virtual. if even the virtuality is not epic anymore it’s pretty embarassing.

this is the main point why my favorite game was Aion, because if you wanted to be at the top and measure yourself with the rest of the world you had to wake up early and to go sleep late. and to do only that. it was hard. you must live only in the game, no week ends, no hollydays.
but in the end it was epic to live such an experience, it was boring sometimes, but rewarding after all. and you knew you havent wasted all this time for nothing, because even if it’s virtual and nobody gives a kitten about me atm i remember, and i have memories of lot of great things. i did not waste my time.

the feeling of wasting his time on gw2 is a feeling i would prefer to not have. i know it’s not viable and i would not try to argue with anet to made this game elitist since this game is clearly not here for that.
the peoples that want to be the elite are already having fun on competitive games. but i mean cmon. no goal at all?
