[Group Event] Defeat the giant assulting theTown of Nageling
That event’s actually pretty easy if you’ve got a “tank” with good dodge timing. The giant’s attacks are slightly slower than standard dodge recharge, so you can keep him trying to hit one guy in melee who’s dodging all his big AoEs while everyone else pours on ranged DPS. Even better, pull him outside the town and get somebody on one of the Charr cannon turrets. Done it with 2 people that way… in about half an hour XD
Definitely agree that it needs a MAJOR reward boost though. Excellent dodge training, at least…
By the way, I’ve got almost all my Slayer achievements maxed, but so far he’s the only giant I’ve found… so I’m at 5/1000 for that one. Anyone know where to find more of these guys or do I have to kill him 995 more times? >.<
If it cost you 9s to repair.. then you might want to look back at what you were doing.. Sure, you might die here and there, because no one is perfect and you might do a little mistake(or get the kitten dodge roll glitch). It’s like the easiest boss in the game. The only thing is his HP, way too much HP.
@Above: There’s another one named Kol in Harathi hinterland, which constantly spawn every like 20mins.
No camps full of normal giants? Dang, this is gonna take a while… XD
… in about half an hour XD
The half an hour issue is the problem. The rewards are in no way worth wasting half an hour to kill this thing. I’ve killed him three times and ever since I just run on by. Maybe a chest or a vendor in the town that makes the event worth it. No chest, No Vendor…moving on.
That event spawns every single time i pass that town. Unless people actually ask for help i will just pass it now as it takes for ever to down him (even though he rarely kills anyone) for such little reward.
I am a Mesmer and I had no repair bills, the second time, the first time he spawned on top of me as I was shopping.
He is not that hard and you are saying you want rewards, really?
Are we getting to the point where if there isn’t anything in it for me I pass?
We are getting to the point of 30 min of hitting a giant…over and over and over and over…is not worth the effort to re-take the town. I’d rather leave the town to the Giant, the town doesn’t offer anything that great, there are really no DE’s that spawn from the town. It’s not an interesting place to go.
As far as I’m concerned the seperatists can have the town.
Yeah, that event could use “some” tweaking. The Champion Giant variant combines a ton of HP in a relatively low level area so even downscaled 80s don’t down it very fast, high damage output that can one-shot you if you aren’t careful, making you use ranged weapons which again limits dmg potential unless you are a ranger and no good rewards except the regular karma/coins.
It usually takes a good 10 minutes+ to down that thing. Providing no one dies. Did it once and vowed to never, ever do it again while completing that area. Giants already start with large HP pools, the champion giants only makes it, much, much worse.
Agreed. Even if he isn’t that hard, the time investment in killing him is in no way worth the reward. Needs either a major HP nerf or a “world boss” chest drop or nobody will do it a second time, if even a first.
That is a good point- he does take ages to get down.
I think his respawn rate needs to be tuned, he seems a pest atm. They thank you and all but hey here he is again. :p
As an aside do you think that appropriate rewards for this kind of thing would be a cool skin for weapons or armour at the vendor in town? Or even a recipe since it is a boss fight?

TBH, I’d be more than happy with just an HP nerf. Anet’s got a lot on their plate. Maybe down the road they could make a mini-world boss out of him or something, but I’d much rather have working skillpoints =(
The separatist attack on the same town seems to be much, much more in-line with typical low level area events that happen in other areas. I’d also lean towards dropping his HP. Perhaps even turning him into a Veteran instead of Champion.
A chest? No. He’s not really difficult at all. Big guys like him have giant AoE’s with about a 5 minute build up to that attack so unless you are a melee user that is just staring at your skills there is no reason to get hit by his melee attacks. However a health drop and a decrease on his respawn timer will be MUCH better. Takes a good bit of time to down him and it seems he respawns every 10 minutes.
Hrm, I’ve actually been very curious as to how the stomp AoE works. I was often jumping up and down and I felt like that avoided the ‘shockwave’ of the AoE, because people around me were getting hit by it, but I didn’t.
“it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun, rather than having fun”
Guild missions say otherwise.
Well, tasty, the same could be said of the dragons. Not very hard, just take a while. As far as chests go, there are many types and grades of chest. Don’t think anyone’s suggesting he drop a dragon-level chest, but a splendid chest might be appropriate.
To be absolutely honest, I have no idea why de’s that cannot be failed drop chests in the first place. Well, except the loot is usually garbage. But that is beyond the point. I do not think a frequently spawning event in a “town” location in a map should be something that takes so long, adding a chest would probably add additional incentive, but honestly it seems inferior to just nerfing the champ.
