Guesting is out of control.
Crystal Desert here.
Tried doing Shadow Behemoth, I was not put into overflow but man that was some laggy kitten poop.

I’d like to see an official comment from someone from Anet… please.

This is a very real problem. I’m on Maguuma, and know pretty much most of the guilds on this server. I’ve been seeing more and more guilds that are not from this server at all of our major events. Every single one I messaged and they told me they were not from Maguuma.
These people lag out every single one of our events, to the point that the entire map is put on overflow. It’s so bad that people who are at the fight the entire time are unable to even get a hit on the target mob to get credit for the chest.
Guesting needs to end, because it’s causing way more problems than it’s causing. I’d say put one more free server transfer for a 24 hr period for everyone, then put it back on gems.
If you wait till the last min when the boss is summoned the yes your out of luck. It has NOTHING to do with guesting. Stop being Lazy and get the early. Don’t wait for a guild member to say its up or a timer site to say that. Early Bird get the chest.
The overflow problem is you and people who act like you. People tell their guilds Blank is up and everyone floods in. Overflows will still happen weather or not there is guesting. Ive seen people stuck in muiltiple overflows. Because everyone is rushing to the boss that just spawned instead of waiting for it.
As for the lagg its the pure amount of people in the fight. If those ppl in the overflow were in the flow and attacked it the same lagg will be there. So blaming lag on guesting is like blaming ugly on a house.
About time pugs figured how how to guest for Dragon Events.
Guesting is awesome just for changing things up on who you want to see in map chat in random areas.
Don’t ruin it and ask for it to have crappy invites or other hurdles needed to do so, just because you can’t understand that people on your own crowded server are doing the events more because of the better loot. It isn’t the 4 people guesting over that are lagging you, it’s the 300 from your server that showed up that are. (or put you in overflow)

People you do realize if your being put into an overflow server on your home server it is not because of guesting. As Anet has stated in the Patch notes that home server people have right away over guests. And Guests are therefor more likely to be in the overflow servers.

Your statement is not accurate. I believe you’re allowing yourself to be confused by the line in the patch notes which states:
“Guesting on worlds that are full or highly populated increases your risk of being put into an overflow map.”
All that statement is trying to make clear is simply this: if you choose to guest on a highly populated world, you’re more likely to end up playing on overflow maps (rather than the server you’re trying to guest on) simply because the maps on the target server are frequently going to be full. And that unfortunately reality applies to anyone, whether you are a guest or a native of the server. That’s just common sense being spelled out into patch note form.
It is not suggesting that guests are being given a lower priority than anyone else on the server, which is what you seem to be incorrectly reading into the comment. There is no “right of way” (as you put it) or preference/favoritism for players native to the server, and that’s a problem.
I also remember suggesting that Overflow maps events follow the exact same timer as the normal map, so players who got kicked to overflow would not miss out on events and party members will be able to right click > Join in overflow.
Another great idea!
Unfortunately, I don’t believe this is feasible. There doesn’t seem to be specific overflow servers linked to specific server (Dragonbrand, for example, does not have overflow servers set aside only for Dragonbrand players). Instead, players from all the servers in the region (e.g North America) are all lumped together in as many overflow servers as are needed.
Since all the servers have unique spawn timers for these events, there’s no way with the current setup to sync events from a particular server to a particular overflow server.
My personal opinion, by the way, is that the populations on these maps need to be lowered even further because it’s pretty clear none of the servers seem capable of providing a quality experience when so many players are merging on a single event. I’d rather have a cool 10 – 20 man fight with an outdoor boss than the chaotic mess plaguing the game now.
I’m not suggesting a map only allow 20 players on it, but they need to add a larger window to these spawn timers to discourage camping and shut down nearby waypoints to these events whenever they begin, which will eliminate people quick-traveling in. That will cut down on the numbers participating in the battles a bit.

The problem is not guesting, it is that the chest are limited per character, not per account.
With a per character limit combined with the extremely buffed up chest rewards, “everyone” will do their very best to open the chests on as many alts as they can possibly manage. This means both guesting as well as everyone showing up for their own servers events. Even without guesting, the more populated servers would go into boss overflows due to all the alts hitting the chest several times during the day. Having it limited to once per boss per account (which is still a good number of chests!) would make things much more manageable.
Hi everyone,
The team is currently aware of this issue and we are forwarding them as much info and feedback as possible about the issue. We would like to say sorry, for all the trouble this is causing. We would also like to ask you to provide as with as much feedback as possible.
We hope we can give you good news soon. Please, keep this discussion civil and constructive and refrain from any kind of rude or non acceptable behaviour.
Thanks for your understanding.
I’ve been on the other side of Queensdale (hunting apples and spiders) on TC and had the server start crawling. Behemoth was up, and whole map stalls. Not a good impression for first time players, either.
Not guesting. Your server population is too high. Especially on JQ,TC,Gandara, and the other top tier ones. Like on Blackgate the 2 guesters I saw at my last event didn’t have much impact. It was the 400 people from my own server showing up. Open your eyes…..
Couldn’t be further from the truth.
We just got massively bombarded by guesters at our claw of jormag event. Let’s find out why this is so…
- The pre-events were done in about 2 minutes max. Without guesting my home server takes about double that.
- Jormag’s first phase only lasted for one corrupted ice shield, and usually we have a minimum of two, sometimes even three.
- On top of this, the ‘guesters’ throw a few hits at jormag in final phase (tag the boss), and let the locals do the rest of the work. This phase of the event took the longest by far. The idle bodies standing around was innumerable. They’re blatantly bragging where they’re from, why they’re there and purposely exploiting the guesting mechanic for loot that doesn’t even belong to them.
They grab the chest and then disappear to the next server with an event.
So in short, this is the basest ‘seagull attitude’ – fly in, squawk, crap all over you and fly off again. Can you seriously tell me that guesting was designed for this purpose? A review of guesting privileges needs to be done and some careful thinking out of solutions incorporating a lot of the suggestions we’ve seen here already. These events are unplayable at this rate.
This has gone beyond a joke Anet, time to get it sorted out.

Not luck and credit cards.”
Hello,
There is already a thread about this here : Exploiting Guesting.
