I’m personally looking forward to them, especially the explore one.
I’m curious how this will work and think my guild will enjoy a few of these.
The jumping / maze puzzle one look scary, if its like the clocktower, I have no chance and won’t go near it but I will watch on youtube.
The bounty one looks awesome and can see loads of passerbys joining that…
I’m not even much of a pver and I still think I’m down for a chicken run.

Just watching that in the video looked hilarious.
It looks pretty interesting. I’m wondering how this will scale for my little 5-man guild. Will we be able to run any of these, or is our guild too small?

They are basically what Open World PvE is now Zerg the world boss/mob.

as stated in the blog, if you would read it, it doesn’t matter the size of the guild.
Wow those seem very fun missions.
Some are hilarious, some jumpy, some challenging…. hopefully there is many of them and even more hopefully they are rewarding so there will be lots of people to do them.

I have the impression that each mission type will come with tweakable parameters, so that the guild leaders (or whoever else is given the ability to initiate them) can tune it to the available numbers and interests.
Given that, they kinda remind me of the mission booths that Anarchy Online has for both individuals and groups. There various sliders (kinds of opponents, amount of traps and locked doors, level of stealth required, and so on) can be used to tweak the kind of missions one want to generate and then is given a set of 6 to pick from (that can be rerolled as long as you pay the fee).

no it says “small” guilds can do it, but it also says you need multiple groups for some stuff
5 people is considered small >.>
I found myself zeroing in on one of the new prices, a combo banner. Are we talking a long term combo field of some kind? Perhaps similar to warrior banners in that they can be repositioned?
Wondering first if there was a focus group for this content. And secondly, who at ANet is constantly promoting installing arcade style game play within an MMO.
I am desperately trying to reserve my opinion on this.
Small guild here as well. We like it that way. Have been gaming together for over a dozen years. That aside, the main issue here that raises a red flag for my guild’s longevity with this game:
As as a small guild in multiple MMO’s in the past, we have enjoyed participating and often leading outdoor raid content which requires strategy and coordination on a large scale. We were hoping GW2 was headed more in this “classic MMO” direction.
What we’re seeing, as an on-going pattern, and specifically here, is nothing more than glorified jump puzzles and arcade style play with timers. Designed for large groups.
We don’t want to use the guild missions as a recruiting tool.
There is concern about investing guild “currency” in a mission with realistically high-risk of little return.
We won’t be partaking in “community-building” jump puzzles, because we don’t enjoy Mario Brothers nor Frogger.
Trying to reserve opinion until actually experiencing the new content.
At the moment, on paper, there is nothing attractive about the new content.
And it raises concerns about future content.
as stated in the blog, if you would read it, it doesn’t matter the size of the guild.
Actually, it says:
Not to worry—all these missions take place in the persistent world, which gives you the ability to rally people from the surrounding countryside and maybe make some new friends in the process!
So if your guild is small, you can’t do the guild missions (at least some of them) without some outside help. These are apparently tuned for some ideal minimum number, but there’s not really an indication what that minimum is. Multi-group coordination, that’s mentioned in several of the types, seems to hint that the number is at least 10.
Im looking forward to something new. I hope we can unlock a guild speed booster or waypoint reduction fee fairly cheaply.

if you cant get more then 15 people interested in your guild, why start one?

Keep in mind that the things you may not like as much about GW2 are exactly the things that make some people love the game.
To me this does not raise concerns about future content but actually makes me quite excited to see what content will be added over the next 12 months. Maybe difficult content can be combined with ‘arcade’ style activities and I hope that content like this will continue to be added to the game.
This looks awesome. I joined a really active guild about a month ago… they constantly recruit and we have tons of active people, but we have had almost NO reason to play together. Having a reason is really exciting, and the trailer looks sweet.
“This expanded unlock system will include new rewards like combo banners, gold find bonus, reduced waypoint costs and, of course, the missions themselves.”
REDUCED. WAYPOINT. COSTS.

So now you’re accepting that the size of the guild does matter instead of your original statement?
As for your comment, I’m sure you can find many examples of guilds (some of them even posting already in this thread) of small groups of people who have played together over the years and prefer to keep it that way. Not to mention some guilds that have 15 or so, but very rarely do most guilds have every single member on at the same time.
That said, I have no stake in this argument. I am in a “small group of friends” guild that likely won’t have enough people on to run the mission types that require multiple groups, and that’s fine. I can accept that not all content is going to be engineered towards my guild.
I would like to know what that magic tuning number is though so I can either get interested in the guild challenges, or settle back into being content with the stuff we can do, like dungeons, jumping puzzles, WvW, etc.

Yes, I am aware that many other players enjoy jump puzzles. I don’t have a problem with that.
It would be churlish of me to suggest that content not be there or be removed.
I also understand that sometimes development goes in cycles, adding content to help balance the game overall.
Would just like to see a better balance of content. Our guild has concerns based on the pattern seen so far.

Guild Missions. Complete with yet another new currency! Oh, my. Sounds like fun for the folks in big guilds. I guess. So, like, yay. And stuff.
Okay.
What else ya got?
also to add: PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THEM PART OF DAILIES OR MONTHLIES.
someone had to hurry up and say it.
By the Six, this looks amazing!

. . . yet you know that there’s a big chance it’ll be in March’s Monthly schedule. Though if they ARE open world, it’s not as big a deal, as I bet then you’d have enough guilds going: “Hey, we’re kicking off an event in the area of this waypoint/point of interest. Anyone wants to join, come on over.” There are enough guilds who share their banner boosts, I think this will just be the same way.

I’m guessing banners that provide the bonuses of multiple guild banners, e.g. Magic Find + Gold Find banner, or Experience + Karma banner, or one banner that gives all guild buffs.
Thanks for the polite feedback from some of you.
For those who question why I am in such a small guild, it is because it is made up entirely of people I know in real life that I prefer playing the game with (my brother, my wife, and two of my friends). We all have busy schedules, so the idea of committing others to the guild seems disingenuous to their potential ambitions.
I also had the feeling that some events definitely seem do-able for small guilds, but others that require multiple groups would be difficult with only 5 folks. I most definitely read the blog, but I was still left with the question of “what is the minimum guild size for this content?” after reading it, and, as I can see by the replies, many others have been left with this question as well.
What if your in a crafting guild? Will there be guild knitting? Or make 300 metal bars? ..Just askin!

Well there’s no answer yet, because nobody knows. All that is known is that open-world events will scale for attendance and you don’t need to be in that guild to “attend” the event and get rewarded.
And I’m in a “small” guild too. It’s got a lot of people so to speak but we’re kinda not on all at the same time. We do fairly decently when we go out and do dungeons, or areas . . . I mean, we managed to do CoF path 1 with classes other than Mesmers and Warriors
I hope the Guild Challenges are actually Challenging.
In addition, I wonder how this whole thing will effect small Guilds. I’m in a very small Guild (7 players) and everything on here looks like large scaled events.
Also, I wonder if there’s a way to not have outside non-guildies participating to stop griefing and leechers, especially if Guild Challenges are hard or scale with the number of people around.

I read the blog as dismissive of small guild issues.
Servers (worlds) in this game have no social infrastructure for planning shared events and collecting people at a planned time.
So I’m going to burn guild influence (which is a very scarce resource in a small guild) to buy the ability to launch not a specific event but a random selection from a list, without a social infrastructure to get a sense if anyone will show up, with a time limit, and with a chance it’s a jump puzzle in which case most of my guild will simply abandon?
I’m OK with having elements in the game which other players enjoy and I do not. I’m even OK if those elements include guild events which aren’t accessible to guilds like mine.
Here’s hoping that when the feature goes live that a lot of people will have fun with it, maybe even me and my guild!
