Community is an interesting mix. In game, I’ve met a lot of nice folk and only a few troublemakers. They seem to be a mix of original GW1 players and players from other MMOs. I was a little bit disappointe when I posted “LFG vanq North Kryta Province” in LA map chat. Seems that it was mostly a non GW1 crowd. Still, I may post “LFR Droks” at some point.

I play on Maguuma
Uru Kalach (80-War)/Kalthin Leafletter (80-Rgr)/Kalfun Gai (72-Guardian)
Leader – An Unexpected Kinship (AUK)

LOL! reminds me of when me and my guildies used to stand in Lions Arch shouting “The cake is a lie!” to see how many people responded.

I personally avoid and/or leave any group that has any special requirements that aren’t made by the game. I’d rather spend my time helping others learn a dungeon and have fun, than run with some kitten that thinks his/her way is the only way things can and will be done.
The way I see things are the more we help one another and get everyone on the same page the less problems we’ll have later on.

I always do ‘’AC lvl 80 only, no MF gear, Experienced only, etc’’

I cant see why iam a bad person…same as you decide to do runs with who ever you see…the same applies for me to run the stuff efficiently…if its going to be a pug, i dont want to spend one whole hour in one single ac run or be wipe one hundred times.

And we clearly know even if the recommended level is 35…we clearly know that isnt true, a lvl 80 exotic weapon/armor/trinket/back >>>>> anyday a lvl 35 weapon/armor/trinket/back not to count extra points from traits lvl 80 >>>>> lvl 35
Not to count even in lvl 80 boss can wipe your whole party, but the extra hp, armor, damage >>>>>> lvl 35, the resistance of a lvl 80 >>>> lvl 35

We clearly know a full pt of lvl 35 can complete the dungeon…but a lvl 80 pt >>>>> lvl 35 pt, unless the level 80 people are just bad…and i really mean bad

I took an arrow to the knee

Like every community:

  • You got the helpful, nice guys
  • You got the kitten who think they know everything, and that only their opinion counts
  • You got the rabid fans who’ll tell you off if you show the slightest amount of disrespect
  • You got the quiet people who keep themselves to themself.

You get the trolls, the feros (fake heros), BS artists, the Wiki-CAC’s (Ctrl+Alt+C), my-way-or-highway kinda peeps, the noobs, the pros, the under-oath-truth tellers, and the rest of miscellaneous kind.

The friendliest bunch of people I’ve ever played with on any mmo has been LOTRO. I think it’s due to that crowd being a bit more high brow about being in the LOTR setting and what that means.

I do however agree that game design does influence the types of players you bring into the game, and we certainly didn’t receive any help when FotM was introduced with the ascended gear with higher stats instead of Exotic level stats + Agony Resist and possibly better looking skins.

My experience is other players are 99.99% helpful and friendly throughtout the game until you get to dungeon running…

When dungeon running around 10% of players are, ‘unpleasent people’ to put it mildly.

It might be the way dungeons are designed, to do speed runs, so those people just want there loot as fast as possible and are preapered to trample, insult and generally be nasty to anyone who they think is stopping them doing that.

I’ve been cursed at in AC for not knowing using Ice Bow was a thing. I was really stunned. And it was partly due to the fact I couldn’t remember when was the last time I’ve dealt with such person in GW, and I ’ve been playing the game for all 7 years.

I recently tried playing Leage of Legends. Very first game I played with other people, I was insulted, patronized, and yelled at. Gave that up. I used to play Maplestory for a little bit. I remember running into alot of kittens with superiority complexes. Not worth it. Then there is World of Warcraft. Never really played it, but I bet we’ve all heard of the horror stories, haha.

Point is, I think we should be very grateful we have such a mild community in a game as dynamic as GW2. One of the major reasons Guild Wars 1/2 is the one online game I kept going back to is because of the harmless community. No drama. Just chill.

I’ve received some pretty foul treatment thus far. The fact that I have very few friends coming in is of no consolation. Here’s to hoping that situation rectifies itself.

Just being called a noob by a Commander in WvW (not only yelling at me but to a group of ppl as well). The guy was typing in CAP, yelling that “you ppl think in your thick skulls”, “don’t do this and that”, “you ppl who do this should go to the server at the bottom tier, that server is for failed ppl”. Then another said “you have NOOBS on every server”. The Commander then said “gonna chill on the borderlands gl here” and vanished. Leaving all of us NOOBS to fight, fight for a Commander who doesn’t even bother to pick up his sword when we are defending. Go away you noobs, only the ELITE Commanders know it all.

Loyalty is for those who deserve it.

What server are you on? Desolation is a pretty friendly server, if you are in the EU region.

In game…yeah, Tarnished Coast a pretty darn good community. Not so much on the forums, however.

New game, new players, new community. Its more than just the same GW1 community.

But the thing is, GW1 had..what?…6 or 7 years to shake out and grow their community. By then, as it matured, the only people who played were those that really liked the game.

The game had gotten past the the swarms of content locusts searching, fruitlessly, for the one new game that will make everything all better. Never realizing that its never a game that will do that.

Not looking to switch realms ATM, I’m on Ferguson’s Crossing though. However, I could be making use of the guesting server in the near future.

As communities go i’ve played in much better, as with some other treadmill mmos, Guildwars 2 you must wade through the crap to meet the nicer people.

Sadly the community has degenerated after Fotm got added as it just divides it

The only truly bad social experiences I’ve had have been content-related. The latest being the new, improved grenth. I don’t know which was worse the people I was fighting with or the mobs I was fighting against. Anytime the game emulates WoW in terms of FotM or giving the grinders artificial difficulty, it brings out the worst side of people in-game and predictably so. By and large though Anet has done a great job in encouraging a positive in-game culture. I wish all the teams at Anet would get on board with the Anet vision though—it would make for an even better community than the one they’ve already created around GW2.
