Me personally I could swallow 50$ price but what disappointed me is no bonuses for players who already had original game. To put it into perspective in GW1 with each new campaign you got additional character slot and additional bank tab.

Ooh, I had forgotten about the bank tab.

2- use the HoT code on your current account, and therefore losing part of the product you are paying for;

What, exactly, are you paying for and losing out on? Now, before you answer, I’ll just reiterate that anet staff have repeatedly stated that with, or WITHOUT the core game included, you’d be needing to fork out $50 for the expac.

Whether HoT is worth $50 with or without the base game is irrelevant, when you buy any version of HoT you gain the core game “free”, but you cannot use said “free” core game whatever way you so wish, you can’t apply HoT to your current account and keep the “free” core game as a mule account, you can’t gift it to a friend, your only option is to have a new account with HoT or no new account at all. Do you understand now?

  • Just to make something clear, i have no problem paying $50 for HoT, some ppl might but i don’t, my problem is that part of what they’re offering is not being fully given out to me because i’m not a new player.

You already have the core game available. Thus you are not losing out on anything because the inclusion of the core game was never aimed at you in the first place. Rather, it’s just misplaced outrage from current players who have a false concept about how because the core game is being bundled (mainly because it’s NOT being offered separately anymore) with the expac, they’re somehow owed something beyond the expac. Despite the fact they’ve been playing the core game for up to 3 years.

Paid for 3 years ago, not a part of the current equation at all.

It’s perfectly rational to consider a new purchase on its own merits.

Like Manasa said, i paid for the core game 3 years ago, my purchase of HoT right now has nothing to do with it, aside from the fact that i’m unable to make full use of their promotion because i’m already a paying customer. And if i’m unable to make use of said promotion then that option becomes extremely unattractive because i get nothing, zilch, nada, zero, for already being a customer and now deciding to pay upfront and putting my faith in anet to deliver a good product.
Compare the two if you may, imagine their thought process as the new and old customer go make their purchase and see what they’re getting for their money investment:

  • 1 -The new customer, gets the base game (which is still valued at $40~$30 and is a known product, so you can look for reviews on what you might get) plus HoT(which is worth $50, but he’s effectively paying less than half for, but he doesn’t fully know what will come out of it, but even tho it is a uncertain product the price is so little that he most likely won’t mind it);
*2 – The old customer, gets HoT (like i said above, worth $50 but uncertain product).

Can you clearly tell whos making the biggest leap of faith with their money? And that they’re getting nothing for it?

Well, I have been playing this game since the very first game was released!

I was going to buy 6 $100.00 upgrades as gifts for my Family this year for Christmas but I just can’t take the repeat of the same game anymore. Here is why:

- True the upgrades are nice but the game is so over balanced it counteracts any joy we get from the meager upgrades for the player characters.
- Everyone gets the same weapon and armor with a different skin. (GW2 needs random weapon and armor drops with the chance for unique items not only different skins),
- You create fantastic characters like the new exalted race …Very Cool but we can’t be one! This game is more to satisfy the programmer’s egos then create fun adventures for us.
- I absolutely hate the idea of soul bounding anything. It makes no sense except to make people waste their gold so there is a better chance that the players will buy something from the store using GEMS or gold they bought from ANET.
- Sounds like all the fun is only in the jungle now …where are the new continents like in the first Guild Wars game?
- Saying you have ascended gear is like adding sport mirrors to my ford focus which
will make me as fast as a corvette. You need to make ascended gear mean something!
- Way to guild oriented …let the solo players keep a higher percentage of there real skill level.
- The programmers will balance the new upgrades so much that it will be just like the current game with more stuff for us to choose from! No real character improvements!
- The only purpose for a game master in tabletop games is to make it fun for the players. The developers need to follow the same creed. If you make the game crazy fun to play the players will buy more stuff from your store without any advertising.
- This is why dumb games like League of legends is kicking GW2’s popularity.

- True the upgrades are nice but the game is so over balanced it counteracts any joy we get from the meager upgrades for the player characters.

What do you mean by over balanced? I can understand what unbalanced would mean, but I’m not clear on overbalanced. Do you mean it’s too balanced, and you’d like a little less balance? If so, which way should the balance tip and how much? And what if it starts to wobble?

- Everyone gets the same weapon and armor with a different skin. (GW2 needs random weapon and armor drops with the chance for unique items not only different skins),

I imagine (from my layman’s point of view) that it might be strenuous and uneconomical for Anet to produce a unique item for each customer. Maybe they could save some time and money and produce unique items only for you and me? (We’ll have to be careful not to tell anybody.)

- You create fantastic characters like the new exalted race …Very Cool but we can’t be one! This game is more to satisfy the programmer’s egos then create fun adventures for us.

So true. I’ve always wanted to play an elder dragon. Or even a Teq-level dragon. Why can’t I be a dragon and fight 200 players?

- I absolutely hate the idea of soul bounding anything. It makes no sense except to make people waste their gold so there is a better chance that the players will buy something from the store using GEMS or gold they bought from ANET.

I agree, mostly on the basis that I have no soul.

- Sounds like all the fun is only in the jungle now …where are the new continents like in the first Guild Wars game?

They’re still stuck in the first Guild Wars game. They couldn’t get visas.

- Saying you have ascended gear is like adding sport mirrors to my ford focus which
will make me as fast as a corvette. You need to make ascended gear mean something!

Exactly. I took the mirrors off my corvette but it didn’t turn back into a ford focus. What’s up with that?

- Way to guild oriented …let the solo players keep a higher percentage of there real skill level.

I think the problem starts with the name. It’s biased. I suggest a name change to “Guild-And-Solo Wars 2”.

- The programmers will balance the new upgrades so much that it will be just like the current game with more stuff for us to choose from! No real character improvements!

I hate having more stuff to choose from. Too many decisions.

- The only purpose for a game master in tabletop games is to make it fun for the players. The developers need to follow the same creed. If you make the game crazy fun to play the players will buy more stuff from your store without any advertising.

Indeed. What this game needs is more creed. And assassins.

- This is why dumb games like League of legends is kicking GW2’s popularity.

I see that as a plus. I want people to leave GW2. Then, one day, I can finally solo Teq like I’ve always dreamed.

:)

(P.S. I wasn’t taking the mickey, just having a little fun. Thank you for a good post and if you ever want to team up and do a jp or something, let me know.)
