Zommoros blessed me with dawn. Made Sunrise, sold it, made twilight for keeps, had enough gold left over to where me and a friend made twilight again. Sold it (50/50 split). Made The Moot for keeps. Zommoros blessed me again with dawn. Me and my friend made sunrise. Sold it. I made The Dreamer. Sold it. Made The dreamer again for keeps. Had enough gold left over where me and my friend are making Bifrost now. Just need world comp again. I’ll use my share to play the TP a bit and use what I make for the new legendary weps and probably The Minstrel.

One run on Cursed Shore, in less than an hour, can EASILY net 3-4 gold in heavy moldy bag contents, tier 6 gathering nodes (I know of 6 orrian and 6 orich nodes that are worth 2 gold alone), drops that salvage into high demand mats like silk, rares that can be salvaged for ecto (lvl 80 zone) and the overabundance of tier 5 mats like mithril and elder wood. If you are lucky enough to hit Melandru or the Arah run (or other events), your gold gain is much higher. I have 4 toons that can work cursed shore due to map completion percentages. My other 3 toons are into straits and frostsound so again, high tier nodes a plenty.

If you find you don’t have enough gold, try focusing on zones where the pay off is more reliable. Before anyone starts in on “grind”, I do not look at it like a grind in the least, I enjoy re-exploring the area when they reset the nodes, I like fighting solo through the whole area as it seems to be the only zone that PvE shows any signs of difficulty (outside of soloing a champ). Again, just my opinion…

Don’t forget that if you have excess skill points, you can indirectly sell them. The most liquid and highest profitable combines will net you +50 silver per skillpoint

I have +1500 skillpoints so that nets me 750G.

Unfortunately it takes quite awhile to fill buy orders and craft, so it’s not worth it. I don’t think you will be able to convert that many skillpoints in one sitting.

Well, I don’t have huge amounts of gold … about 170g right now. I don’t really play to make gold, I just play how I want. I do play quite a lot though.

For instance, yesterday I …

  • Started off completing a few daily categories
  • Ran AC story with a guild group
  • Ran a level 10 fractal (also guild group)
  • 3 or 4 team arena sPvP matches (also guild group)
  • About 30-45 minutes of WvW

All together, I made something like 6 or 7 gold over about 4 or 5 hours of play.

Another thought about gold…..karma. Whoa, wait up you say? Well, there is an easy way to earn money from your karma. Orrian puzzle boxes. For less than 5K karma each you can get lodestones, obsidian shards, unidentified objects (sell to junk vendor for a silver for 2) and other rare items. These karma bought items are NOT soulbound like other karma items you buy such as Gavborn’s rebreather or karmic armor. I regularly buy about 100K worth of these boxes and end up with very useful items and always a refund of some of the karma I spent. It’s not the most efficient money maker but if you have tons of karma, this is an outlet for it. These boxes can be purchased from karma vendors in Orr only….

From what I’ve observed, there’s a huge correlation between having no gold and spending all your time complaining on the forums. Not you OP, just the incessant amount of complaints about it being “impossible”.

I’ve never “grinded” much myself beyond dailies and monthlies and don’t have that much gold, but I’ve spend hundreds of gold at the least gearing all my characters and making sure they didn’t look like they came out of the circus.

The easiest way to make gold is to jump around doing world events for minimal effort. There you go: http://us.gw2stuff.com/en/events/us

You can also guest on bigger servers if nobody’s doing it.

If you do nothing but those, you’d generate a few gold every day and you don’t have to spend all that time “grinding”

There’s also no end to the karma gear that provides different skins. (though you need to buy transmute stones). You can also get some skins for badges in wvw that aren’t as ugly as the level 400 crafter garbage— badges come with achievement chests so that’s not much of a problem.

And yea, Orrian Boxes if you must.

I have 3700g in my wallet and over 2000g invested right now, for reference.

I make my money by doing the following:

- Enjoying the game doing nothing but what I enjoy
For me, that means no world bosses, no event farms, nothing. I do dungeons because I enjoy the content, and not because of the rewards, though the gold gained is also nice.
- Long term investments on the TP with guaranteed returns
Obviously I won’t share what these are, but they exist, and they’re predictable as hell. I make at a minimum 6x ROI on hundreds of gold a month doing maybe 15 minutes of work at the beginning of a month deciding on target items and then sinking money into them.

That’s really all I do, and I spend 99% of my game time not even thinking about earning money. Works out pretty well for me.

Just playing 1-2 hours of PvE can make you 10-20g a day.

People going for a precursor for a legendary are farming champions like 5 hours+ a day; that will give them a minimum of 20g/hour if they sell everything and make superior siege with the skillpoints, buy karma chests, etc. But doing so they will also eventually get an exotic drop worth 20g+ once in a while.

I got my precursor in 12 days doing this, and I never played the market as I am against that. I have nothing against investments on materials that will gain value, but I am against the idea of “flipping” items (artificially creating demand, which is not legal in the real world if I am not mistaken).

By earning some capital the “layman” way (champion farming or dungeon running) then investing it into something, usually T6, Lodestones or event items.

When playing the TP on a short term basis, i look for at least 30% of profit or ROI within 24 hours or 300% of ROI, if i have to store the item.
Neither t6 mats or Lodestones appeal to me as they barely move 20% due to the velocity of the market. Event items are usually a good investment, if you know what you are doing and have the bank roll to wait for 3-6 months to cash in.

By far the fastest way to farm gold is do overtime at work. Im not even kidding. Do an hours overtime. For the average Joe this might be $50 in your pocket. Buy 4000 gems. Convert 4000 gems at a rate of around 6 gold per 100 gems and you just earned 240 gold in 1 hour. The next best method I know of is frostgorge champ farming train where you might earn 20 gold per hour. Its that math that allows me to play the game the way I want and not feel like I need to grind of farm the game.

Seriously, you must be one of the most near sighted people around. There have been guides out there for months about how to flip on the TP, or how run the which dungeons path to get the most gold. There is also a group that harvest nodes all the time and sells the mats. There are a number of really good ways to make money in the game with a little work.

The way you are about this must mean you buy gold and don’t want any one to know it so you go around trying to accuse others of doing it,

Nice cover yourself.

Most of the ultra rich players you see in game have either bought their way to success using their wallets or simply done the smart thing and flipped.

Either way gold is kind of a joke currency and I really wish the best items were tied to actual in-game accomplishments but I guess it’s going the other way now that PvP is going to be running on gold too.

SALE EVERYTHING!!!!!

Absolutely not. There is an extreme importance in the need to salvage, not sell.

I salvage ALL blues and greens wirh 2S or less value ..

For example , Rares i sale NEVER salvage. WHy? because its worth 20+s a pop .
i udnerstand you have a SMALL chance at getting Ectos , but iv seen people go 20-15 and other 0/20 .. so its ALWAYS A GAMBLE!

same thing with OPENING BAGS for mats . 80% of the time i find i get more $$ from selling the bag instead of opening it!!!

Salvage IS and will always be a Gamble ( unless you salvage blue/greens for luck ) but salvaging blues/greens will never make your cash back , specially if your using 15 silver salvage kits!!!!!

sale everything else..

depends what you want to do , but selling item will generally yield MORE cash for you , unless you actually exploit every aspect of the game by doing all of the above!! (like crafting for cash )

as well , normally the only thing i do keep is potential MATS for LEG and items i KNOW i want to craft later on..

I disagree on salvaging ectoplasm from rares. The odds are much better than this if you are smart. Most people are able to get Mystic Salvage kits thanks to ArenaNet points giving us those chests. I have for example dozens of forge stones. 3 of them plus one of each rarity of salvage kit(except white) gets you a mystic salvage kit, which has a 25% chance of rare salvage. Further, you can salvage as many as 3 ecto’s from a rare this way, not just one.

The best though, is the Black Lion Salvage Kit, an occassional drop from black lion chests/dailies. I have a few lying around, and these with a 50% salvage chance are excellent if you want to use them for getting ectoplasm. The few that fail are almost always made up for with extra ecto from the next rare or two. So I disagree, the numbers are on your side if you use them well, I have done so myself. And with 250 uses from the mystic kit, you won’t run out soon either.

I generally farm everything, although I see the value of events that have nice items and waiting to sell them back later. I have also done well with champion farming in Frostgorge Sound. Also, the Queensdale train is great at level 40 since you can level an alt while getting good drops from champions at the same time. I find it a moral negative to jack up prices of goods on the TP mostly because if there was more transparency people could simply buy from people they know are more honest rather than introduce crappy inflation into the game. Transparency in a market is always the right way to handle an economy.

TP

I invest around 100g a day and get around a 10g – 20g a day return, I could easily invest more and get more of a return but I don’t even spend 1g daily so I don’t see it being worth my time since that 100g investment see’s me get whatever I want.

Having said that, with your current 14g, you’re better off doing the dailies (dungeon runs, world boss rare chests, most people will salvage/sell those but I just mystic forge them, over a two and a bit months I got howl, kudzu and rodgort…so sad on the last one…just from dumping the greens and yellows randomly into the forge, granted I was planning for dark matter for ascended gear) or aggressively investing (ie park yourself at the trading post for hours on end) until you have enough to just do the daily investment over 15 minutes each day.

Let us buy vendor mats (eg spools of thread) in 250 stacks, end the excessive clicking.

30% of Return of interest is a good average for me for daily flipping, which i dont do much, 10-20% for casual players is quite good and as you mentioned, covers your fees and you dont need more. I have more than 30k gold stored in assets but rarely invest more than 300-500g at a time as it is the limit of investment for items i can monitor on a profitable basis. I know i can make hundreds or thousands of gold every day with legal API directed spreadsheets, i dont bother and prefer to trade manually.

So do you play 1 hour a day or 6 hours a day?

There’s your answer.

Btw, why stop at AC13, CoF12? You can still do: Arah 123, AC2, CoF3, SE13, CoE123, HotW13, TA Up/FF, CM123.

30g+ daily. But it just circles back to: do you play 1 hour a day or 6 hours a day?

I haven’t been in the area to unlock Arah yet. I play for maybe 2 hours a day. It’s hard to find a group for AC2 and CoF3 for some reason, I’ve been able to find them before but honestly no one wants to do them!

Average players make a good sum of gold if htey play regularly. Most people just don’t really save, they will get bored and browse around, see something they like “oh, it’s only 2g.” and buy it. You don’t need to be a hardcore TP flipper, some of my friends jus casually do it and they just maintain slightly over 300g, never enough to make a major purchase but not at the poverty level.

You can pull in 20g or so a night within 2-3 hours play, very easily without any flipping or TP activity.

Even 10g a day ends up being rather a large amount over the course of a year. People just don’t think mid to long term and instead blow their gold on crap instead of saving it for top end items.

Achievement chests halp a lot, as they give gold the higher you get. That does take a while though.

The wealthiest member of my guild got that way because she buys gems every month with real life money, which she then uses to buy Black Lion Chest keys. She gets valuable dyes which she then sells on the TP, and BL Tickets and Ticket Scraps she uses to buy weapon skins from the Weapon Specialist and sells those on the TP as well.

Keep in mind that it’s not just a matter of making gold, but also NOT SPENDING gold (or silver or copper) on travel. WP costs add up. Are you out at the edge of Tyria and want to go to LA? WP’ing to LA can cost 4 silver and change. Not much, really, unless you do it 10-20 times a day, and that really adds up fast. If you’re not in a hurry, go to the PvP lobby or WvW, then take the Asura gate to LA. That will save you some cash daily, and that adds up over time as well. If you havne’t unlocked the PvP lobby yet, take a few minutes and get it done.

Crafting mats, I think its been said here, are also a great way of making money. Since ascended crafting arrived, things like linen and silk have jumped in price. Are you selling your light armor pieces to the merchant? Shame! Salvaging them for the linen/cotton/silk may make you more cash. ALWAYS check the price of your blues and greens on the TP before you merch them. You’d be surprised to learn that lvl 50 blue cleric’s mace with a merch price of 50 copper can be unloaded to a buy order on the TP for 2 silver. Blue and green shields and maces always (well, ok, 95% of the time) sell for more on the TP than the merch price. Make sure you check your projected profit before clicking sell, as the TP takes slightly more than a 10% cut. Shaman gear and weapons seem to have nice prices as well, especially the weapons. While some rares have TP prices in the low 20 silver range, others will sell for 30+ silver. Check before you salvage for ectos!

There are some really good answers and suggestions in this thread. The only thing I can add is that what works for one player may not work for you; for example, TP flipping is undeniably the best way to make BIG bucks (see Wanze’s post. It’s pretty representative of what the biggest TP traders do and earn), but if you hate doing a lot of market research, paying close attention to buying trends, and spending time putting up buy/sell orders every day, then don’t do it. There’s no point in making that much money if you loathe it every step of the way and you’re not having fun. Find a way that’s fun AND profitable for you, then stick to it.

For me, it’s just playing normally (a mixture of open world, dungeons, Fractals and a teeny bit of WvW), carefully saving what I get, and only buying stuff I need when it’s cheap/plentiful. I’m probably rich enough in combined assets now to buy a Legendary if I liquidated it all, but since none of the current Legendaries really suit my aesthetics, I’m just saving it for equipping my characters with Ascended gear one day.

Wealth in this game is kind of meaningless since you really don’t know if it was generated by playing the game legitimately or through other means (such as buying gold with real money). Ultimately, try not to get too concerned over others being far richer than yourself in a video game because in the end it’s going to mean nothing, especially once the game goes offline or you stop playing it. Best advice is to just enjoy the game and play it normally and you will, no doubt, gain gold. Sure you might not get super rich but at least you can say you enjoyed yourself (hopefully :P).

PS. And before anyone gets clever and accuses me of being jealous or what not, know that I gained the most expensive set of armors in GW1 as well as one of the most expensive weapons/gloves, so I kind of know what it’s like to be “rich” in a video game, but my point is that I don’t even play the game anymore so in the end it didn’t really matter that much. What’s important is that it took me forever to get that much gold but I enjoyed it by just playing the game normally and having a good time and concerning oneself with wealth in a video game is just not really worth it.

Suggestions for how to find good items for doing this are most welcome by PM.

Orange Coconut Bars

Ascended Crafting

These are all things that allowed players to make thousands of gold with little to no effort. Basically everytime there’s a patch they’ll mess something up and if you smash your head against gold will fall out.

You have gotten what you paid for, all that remains is biweekly gemshop pushing.
