I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.
How long do you see yourself playing GW2?
Until the sun goes all supernova on us.
Until the arthritic sun chokes out its last dying breath and we’re left stumbling around in the dark, drinking from crystal goblets and waiting for the deodands to feast on our succulent innards. (sorry, had a “Dying Earth” moment … and if you haven’t read Jack Vance you have denied yourself one of life’s great pleasures)
I amkitten off man for real, who the heck do they think they are putting limits on me?!
…
You try to tell ME how to play? Yeah you can stuff that where the sun doesn’t shine.
…
I am a full grown adult and I will NOT be told what or how I am to play my games. This is a message to you ANet, You don’t revert that RIGHT NOW, I am out of here and I will take everyone I turned onto this game(they feel the same way) with me, and I will not be spreading the good word, I will spread a bad word instead.
Fix that or ELSE.
I was hoping you’d end with “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? DO YOU? YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!?”
But alas…I was disappointed.
1-2 years, depending. Longer if content continues to expand, etc.
I played GW1 2 years, but the last few months weren’t as enjoyable due to all the nerfs to solo farming (in the end you have PvP and farming to buy spiffy looking armor, thats it).
I’m taking it slow. Probably another week or two before I hit 80. Might try a few dungeons and play around in WvW, grab a set of the good armor, finish off my crafting skills. So I’d say another month. I don’t see a point to continue playing after that, if there’s nothing more to work on (minus legendaries – I’m not that insane).
I don’t know really.
Right now I’m enjoying myself a lot leveling. I love exploring the world and the group events. I’ll also cut down half the map to get to a ore node or a tree so having those “instanced” per player is a real great idea. I’m in no hurry to get to whatever end game GW2 has. Haven’t really looked into it much.
But, you can only level so much before that will get old and want to do something else. Ask the people over at BioWare about that (see SWToR). That’s where the end game will come in and how long I really stay.
As long as it’s fun and it’s been a lot of fun so far.
I’ll be around for a long, long time.
Asking this question this early in the game’s launch window is not great timing. You’re just in time to see all the content locusts rage quitting and “taking all their friends with them.”
The game is great. PVE is fun, PVP is a blast and every class is fun to play.
Do not mock me, I just tell it how it is, they need to revert it or i am going to leave and take people with me, and smear this game at every oportunity i got. That isn’t kitten, that is business. REALITY
Trust me, I don’t NEED to mock you.
For every 4 people you take out, I can bring in 8. And as for smearing the game… So? Lots of people do that already; anyone who can’t think for themselves is probably not someone I really want to game with anyways.
I’m not so sure you know 8 people.
:P
I can’t tell for sure, but one month in, I barely scratched the surface of this game. There’s a lot to do really, but I’m taking my time.
Not for much longer I don’t think, maybe it’s because I played GW’s to death? Doing almost the exact same things all over again (Legendaries – FoW Armour, dungeons over and over and over – Deldrimor Title etc.) doesn’t interest me anymore and apart from that theres not much else to do. Since I’m not into PvP in this game I can’t even complete the world exploration. So many of the events I come across are bugged so limited to doing the same ones repeatedly.
It was fun for the first 3 weeks no question but I’ll be hanging with the Claptraps soon.

Not long. I’m trying to like this game, but it just feels like WoW but even less rewarding. Group play feels like a complete mess, solo play is a unbelievably boring grind even worse than WoW- and what’s the difference? Oh, no quest giver with a yellow !. That’s not innovation, that’s taking a game everyone’s already tired of and putting make up on it.
GW1 wasn’t perfect, it had a lot of things that I didn’t like- no open world for one- but otherwise the abilities, gameplay, style, dungeons and sense of being able to play completely differently AND excel in some ways all were good things- yet GW2 is really just WoW with a few tweaks, many of which are not good ones.
And no, this isn’t a ’don’t like this game cuz it has no lewtz!’ or ‘go back to wow!’ complaint- I left WoW for a reason, and it’s the same reason I’ll be likely leaving this game’s pve soon.
WvW isn’t any better- battles are zerg fights full of ranged aoe- since there are no truly bulky characters, and no healers keeping them up so melee are screwed up close. Course, I had a bad feeling the lack of trinity was going to make content too easy- at least I was wrong there. Content isn’t easy or fast- but mostly because enemies have absurd amounts of health, no abilities/gear combinations truly increase your killing power in pve by much, CC is increasingly useless, and rather than teamwork being key the game is about dodge kiting and death zerging.
They completely ruined their own economy with multiple bad decisions on their part plus a few bugs that were naturally taken advantage of- not to mention there is almost nothing other than crafting materials you can sell for more on the AH after the tax than you can vendor it for before level 80.
And pretty much all these problems aren’t ‘going to be fixed’ or ‘added to’, heck, in some cases they’ve already made it worse and said ‘deal with it, you play it OUR way’- good thing Anet never advertised the game as a ‘play how you want to’ style of game.
The only good thing I have to say about this game is the SPvP. It’s not fantastic, but, it’s probably the best thing on the market right now- and that’s likely the only thing I’ll be doing in this game. Still, this is already looking exactly like Warhammer, Conan, Old Republic, Secret World, etc…. launch with the same tired ‘go play WoW!’ argument being the only thing the fanbois can come up with for any criticism, and the same ‘deal with it’ and kneejerk bad decision making from devs.
It doesn’t feel like the game we were promised- it’s way too much like WoW- you can’t cut out gear and change nothing else and say ’there’s no gear grind, this is completely different and new’ that doesn’t fool most players.
Where’s the events that feel like you made a difference? The investment in your realm? Why is the story telling so atrocious? Why are the hearts so repetitive? And what made you think basing all pve around zerging was going to be the future of mmos?
Played wow for over 4 yrs and this game is so much better so I think I will be playing for a few yrs yet.
Not sure, depends on how frequent the content updates will be. I’ve done everything except for crafting a legendary and it took me about 3 weeks. I could do it faster if I wanted to though. So that means, 3 weeks is the max amount of time that I’d take to finish a content update. I think it will be like 3 weeks playing, 5 months break, 3 weeks playing the new content, 5 months break, 3 weeks playing and so on.
i am done as well , i log in and i am like hmm do the same dungeon again by hitting dodge here and errr eventually get a different set of clothes… errr no…
or i can WvWvW , what colour am i today and what colour ..oh well nah i don’t really care win or lose. except losing costs gold which ANet wants me to fund by giving them more money…
yeah i run out of things to do. Ah well Borderlands 2 , XCOM , Torchlight here we come.
GL all
Until it is replaced with GW3.
There is no subscription fee, so — just like Guild Wars 1, which I still occasionally logged into until the launch of Guild Wars 2 — if I feel like playing I can just fire the game up and play it.
Isn’t the “Pay to own” model just plain wonderful?
less then 2 moths if they dont add a “end game”
Until I 100%, then I’ll come back for updates.
With all the problems in WvW, the basic mechanics and design are so fun that nothing else on the market compares.
So, it would really depend it something came along to beat it, which seems like a remote possibility at this point in time.
This thread is great. the truth is. All you OP saying your gonna play till forever hasnt even progressed ur toons to 80. Let alone played for weeks at 80 doing the same things for no reward.
Not long if they dont sort this WvW mess and “balancing” that brings more buggs then balance. With tons of things that must be fixed i dont see how game will get any new content unless they want to break the game even more.
I had hoped for more, but it’s basically been a run from DR to Orr and hitting 80. Nothing to do from there but grind for skins that all the exploiters have been wearing for weeks and that do nothing whatsover. It really should have been a much harder game. I predicted this would happen, though, by 2nd beta. If you’re not gonna test your high level game AT ALL, then at least make it take more than 1 day to get to that level. Funny to see people making excuses for the failures of this game that were known to be issues in MMO’s for over a decade now and have been appropriately dealt with by every other succcessful franchise and were pointed out over and over by the pre-launch community. The result? Threads like this before the games been out a month.
Sounds like some people came to GW2 expecting a PvE game, and got a PvP game instead. I don’t see how <insert single player game here> will somehow replace GW2 either, they’re different games.
I’ll be playing for some time to come.

Pretty much sums it up. This is about the time the people who blitz through content, demanding it should have lasted them a year, come on and rage it up.

actually i just realized i do have one more thing to do, i been holding off my final story fight for my toons even tho i already run arah in explorer mode i will finish that as soon as they fix the rewards and then i will quit .
After reading some of the people responses i can honestly say there is no satisfying people. I really wanna know what is the perfect mmorpg in some of you guys eyes..i remember before this game came out and that is all i heard is how awesome it was i didnt read not 1 bad thing before it was released..now its out all i see is people nitpicking at it..cause thats what it is. everything i noticed that was annoying was only minor things. I will be playing this game for at least a year or more
People want the perfect game. They also want MMOs to be released in the state of games that have been on the market for years.
When they don’t get it, they complain; I call it the delusional-gamer philosophy and often reference it to looking for a leprechaun’s pot of gold.
I will never, ever go back to WoW, or Rift, or the like if that’s what you mean.

Amen Brother! PREACH IT!
until i have fun with it
