I’m going to give an alternate option:

A) Gliding is exclussive to Heart of Thorns and that won’t change
B) I remember reading somewhere that LS3 will require HoT
C) We saw a video of gliding in Orr

My (far fetched I admit) idea is that we’ll get an after-HoT update that will take place in a renewed Orr. Maybe the new Orr will be available only to HoT owners?

Also, one more thing about the conspiracy theorists around here, next Dragon might be Bubbles, which is the first place he would affect before landing on Tyria? Orr.

My 2 cents

Gliding will be fun right up to the point where they start arming mobs with surface-to-air missiles to help “guide” us away from game breaking areas.

Ah, but “Bubbles” would be surfacing from beneath, not landing from above.

As has been revealed yesterday, Gliding still requires HoT ownership…. but will be available throughout Tyria.

Picture the entire world map of core Tyria as a delicately woven tapestry.
Now throw it in the clothes washer and set it to hot water!

That’s what’s about to happen.
Welcome to the incredible shrinking world of Tyria.

Any actually difficult JP will not be ruined by gliders.

The easy ones that could possibly get screwed are stupidly easy anyways.

Even if it did make all JPs over all easier the reward is always so little regardless.

The biggest issue I see is exploits to get out of map, which ultimately don’t really hurt anyone in core tyria anyways outside of seeing things you probably shouldn’t, or being able to /sit or /dance in a location you can’t normally reach. Oh no- how terrible.

If you are terrible at JPs and don’t want the possibility of easy way to complete, just nuzlocke it and you’ll be fine.

What we really need along side gliders is up drafts into the sky akin to that of VB. Cuz flying is awesome, flying in one map gets boring.

I doubt they’ll put in updrafts. But imagine the possibilities.

I welcome this addition with one minor caveat: I’m still holding out hope for updrafts to exist in locations where one might expect them – not forming paths like in Verdant Brink, but just in logical places. No need for many, just a way to get back up into the air in certain places that does not require an on-foot climb. Would be a nice touch.

Most of the people talking about “getting out of the map” obviously know nothing about it. Even when you glide towards the edge of a map, you will not be able to just glide out of it and “escape the map”. All maps already have invisible barriers around them and have always had. When you reach the edge, you will just sink to the ground and possibly get stuck.

Yes, there might be some areas that enable a player to break out of one or the other map that will now be reachable by gliding, but realistically, those people who really want to break out of maps can already do this on almost any map and they do it for fun and not for personal gain. People who want to cheat use teleport hacks and gathering bots.

It sounds like they’re going to be okay with us finding some map breaks, as long as the map isn’t downright broken.

I was hoping for actual downdrafts instead of odd “no fly zones”, but it still works for me. I just wonder how much of Lion’s Arch will have to be a NFZ to protect the two more important JPs there.
