Personally, I want giant riding sloths.

Massive, noble steeds, traversing the landscapes at a leisurely walk, with the gemstore selling the rare ones that have the “walk slower” trait.

Are we talking the snail drag Kind of Motion?? or Big, Lumbering , earth shaking steps?

I would go with the Big Lumbering earth shaking steps that scare the rabbits and birds for a hundred yards myself.

inb4 someone will say that Black Lion Chest Keys can be acquired only via Gem Store.

Except it’s not true, although you kinda have a point about the Lopsided nature of BLT Chests to keys. Chests dropped from playing game…. 280….. Keys acquired without gem store purchases…. 30.

What exactly is the problem. In wow you had mounts. Here you have waypoints. What exactly do you need mounts for. To reduce a traveltime from 1 minute to 50 seconds?

Its my belief that the people that keep recreating all these ‘GIVE ME MOUNTS NOW’ threads are exactly that, players from other games like WoW that had mounts. They had them elsewhere and now they want them to exist in GW2.

GW2 apparently isn’t supposed to be its own game, but another cookie cutter copy of another game’s template. Example: “Its just not the same without mounts.”

“It’s Just not the same ( as World of Warcraft) without mounts.”

I agree, but that’s Like saying Vanilla is Not the same as say… tutti fruity.

There are two different games, Some people either like one or the other. Some Like me , Like Both. And choose what flavor they wish. The last thing I would want is for all the vanilla in the word to tase like tutti fruity…or vice versa. It would rob a lot of people of a flavor they love, and replace it with one they don’t. And for people Like me that like Both…sometimes I want one….or the other…Not one tasting LIKE the other.

In World of Warcraft, which I went back to last week, I want mounts. And battle pets, etc. In gw2, I have waypoints, and do not need, and oddly, do not wanmt a speed boost mount of any form.

Soomeone said " this is not about speed boost mounts, this is about speed boost without the mount." I agree. Even discussing mounts in THIS thread is off-topic. But I blame the OP. he put Mounts On the title, and some people respond to " mounts" Like a Bull to a flurrying cape.( Fact: Red is just tradition,… Bulls are color blind.).

Seriously you get around in this game quickly enough. Instant gratification generation

No kidding. Go try to play anything else. Try LOTRO or SWTOR. Try getting to the opposite end of the map in those games!

LOTRO: Best case scenario, you have set your home marker near the place you wanted to go; now you have to get back to the place you just left to return the quest.

Worst case? Run to a stable, to ride a horse to a hub in one zone, to ride a horse to a hub in the other zone, to ride a horse to the nearest specific stable so you can run to your location.

SWTOR: Best case scenario, there is a “port to here” location near the place you wanted to go and it’s on the same planet you’re on. Now there’s a 30 minute wait until you can use the port-anywhere orb thing, so if you want to return, or go somewhere else, you have to run to speeder, take speeder, run to location.

Almost-as-likely scenario: Run to a speeder, take speeder to spaceport, run inside spaceport elevator, go up/down in elevator (loading screen), run to shuttle (loading screen), run out of shuttle landing dock, take elevator (loading screen), run out of spaceport, take speeder near where you want to go, run to location. Good luck if this takes less than 15 minutes.

In GW2: Open map, double click waypoint, run to location.

The waypoints are fairly well spaced in this game and it should take you under 5 minutes to get anywhere you want to go.

2) To balance/normalize travel speed between classes. It´s unfair a warrior can easily stack 1 minute of speed boost while other classes can’t.

Yes, its totally unfair that the classes aren’t all alike and can’t do everything equally. It’s just horrible. Horrible.

Realistically warriors and guardians should run the slowest since they are wearing heavy armor. The cloth-wearing scholar classes should move the fastest.

Yes because realistically some frail mage would run faster than warriors that trained their bodies for their entire lives…

Also, Guardians do in fact run the slowest or at least is tied for it.

If armour was that bad, how would knights traverse anything? And the horse surely wouldn’t be able to carry a knight if a crane was needed. It would be exhausted after a fairly short distance.

Quite amusing really.

Unfortunately many of the people arguing that the armor was nothing but far too heavy are getting their information from old movies, not history.

What he’s probably talking about is post max level advancement and that IS something this game is missing. One of the advancements in every game I’ve played with this system is the ability to add out of combat movement speeds.

It’s in D3, it’s in Rift, it’s in FFXI, it’s in AoC, it’s in CoH, it’s in NWO see where we’re going? It’s a game genre thing now so it’s pretty much expected by the masses when we play an mmo, as essential to any game as a wallet or changing skins, so it begs the question, why isn’t this on the list of upcoming features on the wiki site or why hasn’t it been part of a CDI post?

Agreed. It’s been shown that a full set of heavy plate armor weighs LESS than what a modern soldier carries today. Plus it was more distrubted, thus allowing for even more mobility. But if you were to put a fully trained and physically conditioned person into a set fo full plate, they wouldn’t have much of an issue. In fact, would probably be more mobile than todays soldiers with their gear. And if the Heavy armor classes in this game meet the minimum requirements of the US army, then they shouldn’t have a difficult time at all do any of the things that they do in game. And it is my guess that those classes would actualy exceed those by a fair margin, seeing as they honed anD trained their bodies and skills to be the ultimate killing/defending machines that they are.

So, if those games all fall of cliffs, you want GW2 to follow? It is NOT a genre thing, please. There were games that didn’t have them (Knight Online is one example). The speed is not warranted or needed in this game as we have WP, that are faster and then with runes, etc you can get the 33% max speed boost.

If you want mounts, go play those games – GW2 doesn’t need them.

There are waypoints like litterally one, maybe two minutes apart in every zone.
What the general F are people whining about? The only area that “needs” mounts is the WvW, and that would mess things up quite a bit since the maps are too small for that amount of a speed boost.

People seriously need to rethink the “mount issue”.

Waypoints suck. And they cost money. I like money. I don’t want to spend it on traveling. And I want my chocobo.

If you don’t Like using Waypoints because it costs money, you can walk. Plenty of people do… I don’t take a WP unless I am meeting someone somewhere, and then, only because I din’t want to keep them waiting. If I am just playing with my partner… we walk…everywhere.

I don’t want to walk. I want to ride. My chocobo.

I think we can all agree mounts aren’t NEEDED in this game. We can map anywhere. Great feature. But I would welcome mounts with open arms. A mount to me would never be a means of traveling across the entire world but rather to get around a zone and have fun with.

The argument that mounts are not, “needed,” in GW2 doesn’t hold up to me because nothing in the game, not even the game itself, is needed. People want mounts because they do. Because they believe that they will enjoy them. Because to them, perhaps, the concept of playing a knight on a steed is fun.

Now, it is important to remember that not everything that someone might want in game can be implemented. Resources are finite. But, “its not needed,” is probably the worst reason to not add something to the game. By definition if, “not needed,” was the determining factor for changes or additions to the game then absolutely nothing would have been or ever will be added or changed.

Really? Because I call BS. “It’s not needed.” is the “worst reason”? Yeah, no. Its important.

There are soooooooo many things that are needed. Spending time and resources on something as silly as mounts is frustrating to even think about. I can’t help but view your argument as being very juvenile. Like a child screaming, “But I want it!” Repeatedly. Over and over. Then the more rational beings around said child think or say, “You don’t need it.” or “No”.

But then with your logic we should give that obese little child that candy bar because they’ve been screaming that he/she wants it for so long and “its not needed” isn’t a valid argument.

You might want to reread my post. It is not pro-mounts. I personally have no interest in mounts in GW2.

Your point in reference to candy and obese children misses the mark. the reason to not give him candy has nothing to do with it not being needed and everything to do with it being detrimental to his health.

If someone makes a solid reasoned argument that adding mounts would be detrimental to the game, or at least not produce a net positive result, such would be a great reason to not add mounts. “Not needed,” not at all because you are mistaken in that no, there are not other things that are needed. There are plenty of things that are desired for the game, but they are not needs.

Finally I would like to point out that your post here proves that something not being needed is not justification for forgoing its use/presence. You do not need to play GW2, or post on these forums, and yet you do. Perhaps something not being needed is not a good reason to skip it in your eyes after all?

Just because every game has an out of combat travel mount doesn’t mean every MMO needs one. If you came here expecting out of combat travel mounts, you bought the wrong game. A little research would have let you know Anet has always had zero intent to include mounts in this game. And no… Out of combat travel mounts are not something so expected, that for it to be missing in gw2, makes the game someone how…" Not fulfill the concept of what an MMO is." which seems to ME where you are going.

It’s Not so ingrained In the genre that a mount is something players are entitled to. You should have done more research, you either didn’t do it, and bought the wrong game, or you did it, and discounted.

I would say if they did Not have say levels…. then maybe you have a point. Except even those have been, and are being dispenced with…

The Secret World already has.
EverQuest next will.

So no, mounts are not obligatory.
