One of my characters had a look that I was pretty happy about, but I wanted something new. So, I bought and applied one of the new gemstore armors. Bad decision! The new armor has horrible clipping and I’m not happy with it at all.

Now, to get my old look back, I can do either of 2 things

  • Reacquire the old skin and put it over my current armor that has the gemstore skin. Cost: 1 armor (with the skin I had before), 6 transmutation crystals, and let’s not forget I’d be throwing away 800 gems worth of gemstore merchandise.
  • Keep the armor I’m unhappy about in storage, hoping the clipping will be fixed someday, and meanwhile, get a new exotic armor with the stats I want, and another armor with the skin I had before to apply over it. Cost: 2 armors, 6 transmutation crystals, 6 storage slots.

Neither is very appealing. Count me as not being very happy about the armor reskinning system.

It would be nice of each character gained a personal storage aside from their inventory storage, that could hold items that are soulbound to that character.

With each living story, new skins are being released, and if you enjoy collecting skins(that have been applied to weapons), they’re starting to take up a good amount of inven space.

Well they went and added some transmutation splitters. I suppose that helps if you want to switch your skin on something like an ascended item without destroying the old one, but hardly addresses the overall problem.

I’m also surprised they haven’t done anything with the achievement panel (the place you can claim zenith skins), not even add the new living story skins to them!

edit: on a side note, i remember LOTRO was amazing outfitting wise, in your hero panel you had panel with outfit option that would appear as skins while retaining the stat of the armor you were wearing. and it had a good wardrobe system.
check it out anet^^

Lotro has done this the best in my opinion. You had your stat armor and your looks armor, and both were contained in the hero panel, so no need to keep them both in the inventory either. I would be very happy if ANET did away with the transmutation stuff (maybe keep it for weapons?) and switched to something like this.
