Question is in the title, what do you folks think.

Personally it seems to me that currently gw2 is taking a cartoony approach , communication between NPC’s and other NPC’s or yourself in LS for example seems like they try to be very child friendly about it, most likely cause they want to bring in a younger audience.

The clearest example I can give upfront without much though is Scarlet, all tho this is not a hatred thread on Scarlet directly, this is an example of the use of cartoon like personalities in GW2.

Scarlet basically has the personality of Woody woodpecker with murderous intentions, she has (no offense to the voice actor) a goofy voice that’s trying so hard to be psychotic but is coming out like childish villain (plus some actual graphic language on some occasions.) you’d see on the shows of cartoon network 10 years ago. It may be that they’re going for a Joker type character but I don’t think they should touch that, I won’t get into a batman discussion.

Now I personally wish GW2 would stay in the more realistic darkish atmosphere, not entirely but on the right occasions definitively. Did anyone ACTUALLY get an eerie dark feeling from the nightmare of towers or was it like, yeah this guys are evil and didn’t feel the true “nightmare” part of that tower, except for the explosive flowers, those were a pain. Example for Halloween, it’s a celebration (for a murderer) that they chose to go with actual plastic spiders and a mad king we can’t help but to like for his over the top humor, nothing wrong with that personally because he’s not an actual threat and well if we’re going to make this a year celebration why not make it more up lifting in some way.

I think the ways they could fix this (for future LS’s revolving evil) is with eerier music (dark and slow most of the time), enemy character design and map design (lighting) . Make the conversation truly what they should be, you’re in a bad situations with extremely dangerous creatures, this ain’t a “game”. I think hardcore gamers will appreciate that.

Tho most of what I said was about the LS, what do you guys think, do you like cartoonish or do you like a more serious story line and environment. If not why, if you agree why.

Anything and everything, please discuss!

Well I seen the legendary bow in use when I fought Maw recently and seeing pink ponies fly at it is your answer. I felt like I was playing a game made for little girls when I seen that

I can understand that, as well for the toy sword that jiggles but those are personal things in my opinion, I don’t need to buy them (or craft it in the case of the legendary) if I don’t want to and something as small as a weapon doesn’t make that much of an impact, not as much as in LS, on a small note, I wish armor would take a more serious design, they don’t seem very though out, at least not compared to many other games, especially Korean games, they have brilliant epic armor.

This picture is from a game called Bless, all tho you can’t see the armor much in this specific picture, you get the idea. Sadly I think most of this problem including making maps and characters more eerie is partly due to the game engine not being able to make such things possible.
