I found this thread because I was a bit frustrated and looking for some tips on how to get the skill point. After reading the thread, I believed it was possible to just think about it and then go do it solo on my Norn Warrior.

So I set up my wurm summon, killed the mobs from a distance with my rifle, then ran up to the statue. The Risen Knight comes in and I summon the wurm and throw an axe at him. I see some red circles on the ground in front of the statue so I went over to the edge of the ledge just outside of his aoe. I don’t know what happened with the wurm. I just saw the Risen Knight go into a red ball which he holds for a few seconds. It was long enough to commune and get the SP. Then I got out of there with the map completion.

It took less than 20 seconds after I pulled and killed the mobs there.

Which point is this? I did all the skill points in Orr solo on my ele without issues (most of them before hitting 80).

It was a veteran originally.

Actions, not words.

Doing cursed shore can be a pain but what makes it even worse is the champion guarding the skill point in noose road. My server the far shiverpeaks there is not many wondering around there so this Skill Point which is guarded by the champion makes this a difficult task it is next to neigh impossible to get with out using the secret way which still requires timing. Should he be changed to a vet as I don’t think the secret way is the best way.. Would be nice to see what the devs think of this

Get that stealth kit thing. Pretty much the only reason I use thief to do map completion.

No this champ is fine, I did it just 2 days ago on my Mesmer and had NO issues. Really it’s either find a group to help you take the champ out or do the “Secret way” as you put it which really does give you a nice small mission/challenge which tbh there should be more of in this game.

There was a similar case where in one of the maps where you had no option where you HAD to fight a champion Spider to get a skill point (in a cave somewhere on the west side of the map, I forget which map) where they DID change him to a vet. But in this case I think it was a good thing because 1, he was marked as a vet in the event info anyway so it must have just been an oversight and 2 like I said you HAD to fight him if no body had before you, there was no alternate path to the SP.

PS, My secret way to do this is to go up on the right hand side of the path and you can avoid ALL mobs and the champ and duck into a small little inlet/cave type area. pull the one mob to you and kill it while the Champ is down the steps, wait for the champ to come back up and then down again and then commune on the SP. I have done this solo on about 6 of my alts now I think and had no issues what so ever.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

I agree on the point that this should be a lower powered Veteran,
nobody returns to those skill points after having gained them,
aside of that it should be a skill challenge, not a bloodbath.
As you can’t particularly show your personal “skill” if your forced to take it on in group,

I like having to beat a Veteran to get my skill point, but the challange should remain solo’able as, lets face it, nobody cares about killing something for somebody else if they don’t get a super reward out of it, if you ask somebody to kill a Champion so you can get your skill point, odds are only 1 person might show up and you still end up being murdered in cold blood (in about 2 blows)

ask somebody to join you in a boss fight that gives you 2 loot chests, exp karma and more then 2 gold and the server will overflow.

my point being, skill challenges should be low enough so 1 player can take it down,
level scaling to a stronger level if more players show up. (and actually fight it)

right now I just use my necro’s minions to distract those bosses and take the skill point before they wipe out my minions, hey its not a fair tactic, but HEY its not a fair challenge eater!

using the excuse of “there are guilds who do these things” is also not a excuse as most players don’t even care about what other guilds are doing, they just want to play the game solo or with friends (or guild) and smash there way true everything, problem is there are too many unbeatable obstacles that practibly force you to stay watching the same area for hours and hours until finally some guild group or commander leading a train enters the area pleating to them on map chat to lend a hand, not only annoying them, but making you feel bad about yourself for needing to distract those people from what they are doing just be course some annoying Champion was placed at the wrong place.

Right now there is no other way then just eater doing that, or using a necro to distract the champ with minions, or mesmer/elemantist to do the same with there minion,
all other classes might be able to use such a trick too but it seriously eats away at the fun game quality if you ask me :/

personally today I had the luck my guild members wanted to help me out, we went there with 4 ppl in total, guess what? the Champion still wiped us out in only a few hits, I think the Champion itself might be bugged as its too powerful and seems to teleport around the map when not in combat (moving WAY to fast, and not even visually present when close to the area, only appears when it enters combat, but can’t be spotted before that moment)
