Q:

I was thinking of spending some gems on bank space and shared inventory slots. I’ve had the fortune to always have discounts available when I’ve wanted to buy QoL things before, and I wonder if there’s a pattern of when certain things usually go on discount. I know that the HoT expansion usually goes on sale near living season releases, for an example.

When was the last time the Shared Inventory Slots were discounted? Is there a known pattern as to when it may be discounted again?

A:

according to the wiki shared inventory slots last had a discount August 25, 2016, before that it was April 8, 2016. that doesn’t mean there will be a sale in April 2017. most things in the gem store (apart from certain outfits/armors) don’t seem to have any kind of sale pattern as far as I’ve seen.

  • Buy now if you have a strong use for the slots.
  • Wait only if you can live without the convenience.

Either way, stock up on the gems now if you converting gold: the gold-gem ratio spikes whenever there’s a sale on keys, shared slots, and plenty of other items, often eating up any potential savings (or worse).

If I remember correctly they usually have a sale some time in the spring (around April) and always have one around August for the game’s anniversary. Then they often have one, or a series of short promotions around November/December/January for Black Friday/Christmas/New Years/January Sales.

But they only announce it a few weeks in advance, if that, and they don’t always make it clear which items are going to be included. It’s best to keep an eye on the gem store and the news page for info.

And like Illconceived Was Na said it’s also a good idea to stock up on gems in advance if you want to buy them with gold because any type of sale or new release will cause the price to jump up.

I think shared inventory slots are over-priced if bought at full price with real money so I’m waiting for a sale and slowing converting gold to gems when I have enough and the conversion price drops. If necessary I’ll top up the gems with real money when the sale happens. Or in the highly unlikely event that I manage to get enough gems with gold to buy them at full price before a sale happens I’ll buy them that way.

I forgot to mention: it’s probably always worth buying the 5-slot option, since you get the bulk discount in addition to the individual slot discount. This is “probably” true even if you max out on the slots — they seem to keep increasing the cap by 2-3 every so often.

I have been waiting for a long time for the discount on shared inventory slots and planning to buy 3 × 5= 15 slots when they did. However, after Anet’s sudden change to the ascended shards vendor that wasted my 1200 shards, I started to look for another mmo so I am glad I haven’t bought those yet. If you are gonna buy the gems with real money I suggest you to wait, if you are buying your gems with gold then better start stocking from now as those gems keep getting more expensive constantly.

That’s what I do. I bought 5, then another 5 then held off when they introduced 3 more because I wanted to buy another 5.

I’m not quite sure what’s going to happen after that though. We’ve never been able to have a bag bigger than 20 slots so I assume 20 will be the maximum for shared slots too. Which means next time I’ll have to buy 4, or rather 3 and 1 since those are the only options. I’m hoping they’ll do a special offer on 4 slots instead, but I don’t know.
