I am thinking of giving ESO a go. I want to diversify my game portfolio, especially with Nexon chomping at the bit for ncsoft.

Plus, I’ve heard the build diversity is top notch, which would be refreshing from the same 1 skill for three years now…i swing my sword again…. kitten .

Agree – the build diversity is far superior to GW2. The perspective is a bit odd unless you’re used to that sort of game, but it doesn’t take long to realize that it’s as good as what you’re used to.

Honestly, only GW1 has better build diversity. I miss that terribly.

The games are just two very different cups of tea.

GW2:

- fast paced combat, that feels chaotic and spammy from time to time
- DE’s make the world feel alive, which is the biggest plus
- no trinity
- simplistic and easy

ESO:

- in-depth combat mechanics
- more freedom in character development
- great and immersive stories
- trinity
- challenging content

I play them both and I love them both. It just really depends on my mood which game I start up.
If I want some well written story and challenge I go with ESO, if I want non-stop action, GW2 all the way.

You are 100% correct and took the words out of my mouth “tips hat”

Is the trinity really a factor in ESO though? When I left some 2-3 months after release, the messed up trinity was beginning to show. While a healer was good to have, it was all dps otherwise in high end content. Tanks was not desired except when “learning”. I mean its the same as GW2 is now. When GW2 released, Arah was almost impossible to complete because it was kitten hard! Now everyone is zerker speedrunners.

No idea how ESO is today though.

Despite that I’m a TES series fan I don’t like ESO at all...
locations are beautiful, yes, some quests are good, but sadly I get bored pretty fast :\
Combat feels wrong...don’t know maybe it’s just crappy fx and really, really clunky animation.
Cyrodiil is the only PvP map, it’s huge, so if you die it can be a real pain in the kitten to get back, especially if you’re low lvl. All Forts are identical and placed on flat surface, so for ex. there is no forts in the mountain etc...boooriing.
As for visuals...armor looks bad, really bad, helmets are simply ridiculous, especially with horns...
I didn’t try PvE much, but I heard it’s not that bad, but not that good anyway.

It may be that when the game is out on consoles it’ll do better

Others may disagree, but MMOs don’t belong on consoles.

Insofar as ESO specifically, it was the biggest gaming disappointment of last year hands down.

GW2 has spoiled me for any MMO to come…

I have no idea what the OP is talking, other than he probably played a diff game, or played ESO up to level 20 or so.

You can keybind any of your abilities, everyone does. You can import your keybind to mult chars.

ESO pvp is a not only a blast, but very well-done. Primariy reason – and something I don’t see much in this thread – is gameplay.

GW2 is pretty, and can be fun at times, but the gameplay imo doesn’t hold a candle to ESO’s. Combat in ESO feels much sturdier, more dynamic and responsive. It’s engaging, like you’re actually doing combat.

GW2’s gameplay is pretty but often feels disconnected, like watching nice animation in a viewer after a button push. Characters feel like they’re floating, and not sprinting after someone.

GW2’s gameplay has a lot of depth, if you take the time to learn it. Knowing how to dodge, block and interrupt is probably more important than swinging your sword – certainly in pvp.

Both games in the end are different, and fun. But if I could only enjoy one, it would be ESO hands down 9 out of 10 times.

Any possibility that ESO has evolved at all over the months since the OP posted this necro thread ?

Why do people necro threads from 4 months ago that no one cares about?
