Gem to gold rate is the correct conversion rate here, since I was postulating buying gems with RL money, then converting them to gold.

For the BLSK value, I used the gold to gem rate (approx 13 gold/100 gems), since I was comparing to buying the BLSKs using gold (both key runs and gold acquisition are in-game activities).

Though the key may have been pushed to a slightly later time period for a new character, the rewards that went with it were significantly buffed:

- Approx 3.5-4 levels running the L10 PS block (without boosts).
- The BL Key of course.
- A ‘white’ champ bag (contained level- and class-appropriate loot).
- 50 Luck (disguised as a ‘thank you’ from your Destiny’s Edge mentor).

For a starting character, that’s not bad at all. Even as a veteran, I find that to be pretty generous to a new character. Unfortunately it seems that after L15 the XP grind ‘bogs down’ again (probably use boosts to compensate here), and I found the L20 rewards to be a slight let-down after that (though the ‘choose your stat’ ring was an interesting touch).

Yeah, but none of the mobs in PS drop anything, and there are no gathering nodes in PS or early zones, so you don’t get mats and stuff anymore.

The crappy RNG isn’t worth the effort and gold to do it now, imho. I loved doing key runs in the old system. I mean, I can’t imagine doing a lot of them at a time, but for those times when I knew I just had 30 minutes to play, and I wanted to do something that was almost muscle memory so that I could let my brain defrag from the day…keyfarming was a soothing, easy 30 minutes that I didn’t have to think about, and in the end I got a chance to play lottery with a chest.

But, in all the chests I’ve opened, I’ve never gotten enough scraps to get a weapon skin; I mostly got crappy boosters, stupid 50 luck bubbles, and other junk like repair canisters. The “biggest” thing I ever got from a chest was a makeover kit.

So, while I liked chests as the cherry on top of my mental defrag keyrun, they are not worth paying real money or spending gold on, for me personally.

But however you feel about keyruns, or the impact on them by the new PS, as has been stated over and over, and here on this thread by a Mod; they are not now, nor have they ever been, an exploit.

I did notice that there are no mob drops anymore. Also I got loot bags that gave me gear for professions other than my key runner.

Gosh, there is such a simple solution to your problem. (I can’t believe you don’t know it)

Ok, check your pockets, look under the sofa cushions. All you need to find is a measly $36,750€. Used that to buy 2,940,000 gems worth of keys and there you are. Open the chests and rake in the goodies.

Problem solved.

According to Anet’s official statement not an exploit, and according to Regina as with any games things can change. Anet could not allow China to mine a key for every PS lv 10 as we did. The losses would have been too great for their wallet. So here comes the China’s tutorial forcing them to start their PS only at lv 10. Now with the patch we are now on even ground with China, free to put up or shut up or quit. Nothing is an exploit as long as you buy gems that is.

To echo what Gaile said in the aforementioned thread brought up by Healix, key farming is not considered an exploit.

You say its not an exploit, but you sure made it a much more time consuming process. I almost feel like this is the only reason you changed the story content, as there is no positives from limiting players from accessing content immediately upon starting the game… Its a real shame your going that route to trying to push people to pay for keys who were never going to buy them to begin with.

Hardly any more time consuming than it was before, you can still farm dungeons for the gold or high level fractals in about the same amount of time to get keys via gold.
