Killing mobs is not worth it
In fractals they can drop shards/globs/vials of condensed mist essence, which is nice.
Nowhere else do I recall killing a mob to be fruitful unless:
- I was leveling and it had a big bonus attached to it
- It was part of some event
- One of us has to die and it’s not going to be me
I don’t waste my time with mobs anywhere any more unless it is an event or it is faster to kill them than go around. When all of your characters are level 80, the drops are garbage and xp means nothing thanks to the mastery system, why bother with them.
Crystal Desert: 1/13/2017
I think the way it is set up works quite well. The xp is more from events anyway so no real need to up the xp off them. So those that are just interested in xp can kill a few and focus more on the events without feeling they have to kill everything they run into. Or watch for the champs that pop up for the better loot.
And for those like me that just like killing for the killing of it, we get something but not to worried about paying attention to what is dropped that we are distracted from the fun of killing the pains in the …
So I think the set up works. If you don’t think they are worth it you can just run past like most I see do. But for me that leaves a lot more to kill along the way to beat out my daily frustrations.

To some extent. Particularly in HoT, it becomes significantly more difficult to just run on by. Some professions are easier to avoid mobs with than others, but when you are forced to fight a mob and it’s an annoyingly difficult one, it would be nice to see something come out of it – other than a pittance of XP and a porous bone ([&AgFLTAAA]).
I’d be all for implementing a change that would make mobs in each map (not just fractals) have a chance of dropping something shiny for players. That, or just more XP.

Odd HoT is where I do most of my running through. But I do see how it might be difficult in some cases. But adding xp to a junk npc foe will not make them more desirable to kill in that area anyway. A lot in that area are not interested in the xp more then the MP or getting to the event. So those annoying little pains are doing what they are designed to do in that area, to be an annoyance and slow you down to keep from getting to an event to accomplish it.
Isn’t that the purpose of trash mobs anyway? Even Champs in the game call up trash mobs that give bubkis just to make it more difficult to kill the champ or even legendary. And an insignificant foe still can drop the odd exotic from time to time. That is where I get most of my random exotics from.
I kill mobs everywhere I go. If I’m doing map completion, I kill mobs along the way. If I’m running harvest nodes, I kill mobs along the way. Loot is loot. Sometimes its exotics, sometimes its rares, but mostly it’s blues and greens. And you know what those blues and greens give? Lots of materials and luck and gold in the form of trophy items and other vendor junk. If I see a big group of wolves? You can be sure I’m going to round them all up and get them to howl for help, for all that sweet sweet treasure.
My guildies and I usually kill most of the trash mobs in dungeons too when we’re running them, for this reason.
If killing mobs is not worth it to you, then by all means continue not killing them. Me? I’ll continue to get extra mats and rares and, yes, sometimes exotics, essentially for free.
Killing 1 npc might not be worth it but let’s you ignore every single npc. :P Soon it’ll be 20, 100, 1000. etc. – each with that small chance for something “good” and so many guaranteed “normal” items.
I already got 2 precursors by killing random npcs. Not that i would just run around and kill everything i see but it just happened and i was so happy.
I know that we have the precursors but the chance of getting them is next to nil, ive been playing for 4 years and have no legendary or even gotten a precursor.
im sure everyone is aware of the whole avoid mobs as much as possible in dungeons, how about spice it up with some rare spawns or something? give people a carrot/reason to kill, as it is, mobs are just a whip to beat players with to waste their time.
Discuss.
Your first paragraph answers the second.

That depends. On several of my characters having the adds makes the champion easier unless the adds themselves also hit at hard at the champion.

That trash mob you passed up? Had your precursor drop.
Got my Dusk off a Level 6 Jungle Raptor Hatchling. I don’t kill every mob I see, but I don’t avoid them all, either. Also, when I’m looking for XP, those yellow mobs are sweet.
You never know what might drop. =)

This seems to be somewhat of a less-known secret. The longer a mob survives on the map, the higher its bonus exp value becomes. Yellow mobs tend to be ignored by most players, so they often rack up huge bonus exp values.
I’ve also gotten some really nice drops (a few exotics, many rares) off the yellow mobs. I also seem to have good luck getting t6 fine mats from them too.

Yellow mobs + boosters = an easy way to level up quickly
the reason they cant be good is because bots.

This is nonsense.
There are people with over 2000 hours that have killed every mobs, never seen a precursor.
There are people who started last week and found one on a mob they only killed for their daily.
The level of luck involved is so absurd that any advice “like killing them for increased precursor drops!” Is just flat out bad advice.
Like do you tell your friend if you buy 5 lottery tickets you have a good chance of winning? no you are still hundred times more likely to be struck by lightning on a sunny day. If you buy a lottery ticket expecting to win you are a moron.

Clearly you have no sense of humor. Sorry to trigger you.
LOL if they dropped frequently then they would become worthless as supply would overcome demand.
They already added crafting system on top of the gambling or chance drop. 4 years of farming and not earned at least enough to buy off tp……yiiikkkes
It fun to look at players abstract thinking XD.
I’ve gotten The Lover, tier 6 mats, ascended armor, lodestones of various types, from killing mobs. Just last night in Orr I did the exploration of the tomb event with lots of mobs and got a glacial lodestone, a vial of poweful blood, lots of mats, a vicious claw, and a giant eye. It was 5 minutes, so I don’t know exactly how much loot we should get for that minimal amount of work, but it seems about right to me.

The way to get a precursor is to buy one off the TP or craft it. I don’t expect precursors, I never thought I’d see one, I’ve had two drop in the 3000k hours I’ve played this game. I crafted the precursor I actually wanted for nevermore. The best advice is not to look for the precursor to drop, look for the mats from the mobs to craft the precursor you want. But if you don’t play the lottery you can’t win it. And getting precursors dropped or in the mystic toilet is far more common than getting struck by lightening or winning the lottery.
I’ve said it all along. This is a game of trickles. Nothing is worth all that much and yet by the end of playing I seem to have a lot more than I had and part of that is killing mobs. If you’re playing this game just to get that “big” drop, you’re probably going to be disappointed.
On the other hand, I have made enough money without actually farming, to buy several precursor and make several legendaries.
It’s nice to get a really nice drop. But since every mat has value and just about every drop can be turned into mats, that trickle of constant income adds up.
I find fun to kill mobs only theres Achiments points for it. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Slayer
Maybe if theres XP chain reward would be motive to kill mobs. Like the more kill same type mobs get x2 , x4xp times more exp or loot are getting better after killing 10 etting.
But then it would become farming xD and no one like farming...
And I donno what happen if we get too much reward. Even its nice. But imagen Trading post economy ... Items go rocket hight. I dont wanna see 10000k 20000k ...like back in the days it was really hard to even get 1 gold. Probely bot would appear in the game more... Which is not nice.

I don’t really understand what you guys are talking about, but if a deer gives me a weird look I consider it my prerogative to go slaughter it in a rampage. Those jerks have it coming.

Well you’re not really a GW2 veteran until you get Giant Slayer.
Anyway, I fail to see the point of this argument. Killing mobs is not the purpose of the game. All other MMOs may be designed around farming mobs by the millions but GW2 is designed around events. Mobs just happen to be there. Also with 250%+ MF they drop tons of high end mats.

I am pretty sure that just means you are a masochist or just desperate for AP.
The experience granted from mobs when running a birthday booster can actually be pretty kitten big. It mostly occurs in old tyria maps though, but the longer a monster is alive the bigger it’s exp bonus gets. I’ve had kills where I earned 8000 (no joke) exp from a single kill. I used that experience for masteries and it’s also the reason I still run birthday boosters at the moment as I haven’t maxed them all yet. But I think in the case of dungeons they have decided to just let it be and focus their attention on other content. They could structure fractal dungeons like raids so skipping is harder.

Most fractals don’t have anything to skip.
I’m weird and love to just kill mobs I find it therapeutic….weird I know.
Before I know it I’m in some location I’ve never been in and hours have passed, my only gripe is dim returns.
Sucks for people like me but I understand it has to be this way.

No no, I definitely enjoy it I just dislike the diminished returns so I can’t be rewarded for enjoying it.

That’s when you map hop and do an event, kill other mobs, jump around and you will notice way better drops.

My point was its only rewarding in long terms of killing the same mobs. Not hunting them 24hour for AP. XD LoL no no Masochist. I agree that only for events/ and skip for dunguens. Theres a lot more fun to do in gw2 than just killing mobs.
My first precursor drop was with a Moa I killed near AC dungeon.
You can now farm karma at least by killing mobs, which is a big thing for me, anyway. Buy the karma upgrades in Ember Bay and kill mobs for random karma drops. You need about 16,000 unbound magic to get all three upgrades, but even after a thousand, it starts paying off.
The game reward getting objectives done. Trash mob make those objectives harder to accomplish. The point is being able to solve this in the bes way possible: using your skills and brain to defeat them if that is needed, or to avoid them whenever it is possible.
In other words: If you get caught killing something that you didn’t wanted to kill, It means you need to play better.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

Every time I kill a mob of something, I miss the loot in the first Scarlet invasion even more.
I have Legendaries equipped that beg to disagree with your assertion.
Mobs are loot piñatas, kill them as often as possible.

Wow thats strange. Your second person I know who got precursor from Moa !
So there is secret loot with Moa ~.~ I see…

Exactly: eat all the candy that drops from a piñata and that’s just as fattening as eating one huge sundae.
I don’t kill mobs because of the loot or XP. I kill them for the simple joy of killing.
Why can’t we all just take pleasure in the simple things in life?
Instead of saying, “I kill things strictly for monetary gain.” like some kind of cold-hearted mercenary, just loosen up and say, “Doggone it, killing makes me feel warm and fuzzy in my tum tum!”
