Now Anet goes an adds a guaranteed way for PVP to get one.

I think that the, “guaranteed way,” you are referring to is not quite as sure a thing as one might think.

In order to have a shot at winning the tournament players will have spent hundreds, if not thousands, of hours prepping, practicing, learning, etc. Despite the time investment the majority of them are guaranteed to not get a reward. The same cannot be said of players attempting to get a legendary in PvE. The odds are against the majority getting a legendary in PvE, but they are not guaranteed to fail.

ANET is kind enough to hold a tournament and rewards pvp players with something.

Don’t give the, a legendary. Give them a unique, different skin.

Legendaries by their very design are supposed to be the top of the range skins, but in some sense they’re not supposed to be all that exclusive either in that anyone can build them or work towards them on a whim.

If you guys truly care for the PVP community, don’t give them a legendary, give them a skin that is UNIQUE TO THE TOURNAMENT. Or a skin set that only that account can use (or those accounts, rather).
Giving them a legendary is a cheap and easy way to reward them. I mean how much more special can you be than being one of five people who have access to that skin you have? 5 PEOPLE. IN AN MMO.

I ? Karkas.

I have no problems with people getting a Legendary or Precursor for winning the Tournament. It seems like a fine way to acknowledge their skill, and with the removal of Glory, if a player wishes, they can also sell the Legendary or Precursor and get what they really want.

I think a unique skin, on par with legendaries, would be a better reward for someone who wins the tournament. But in place of a unique one, I don’t see why one of the current ones being given is an issue. They will have earned it.

A unique skin should be given and not a legendary. A legendary means absolutely nothing to a pvp player since they can’t even show it off. When I see someone with a legendary, the first thing that comes to my mind is that the player is a pve player since it takes tons of hours to grind for one. Or that player is super rich who just buys them from tp.

What’s legendary about grinding or buying from the TP?

That’s my point. Do you think a pvp player can show off his legendary as some sort of “pvp trophy?” He’ll just get labeled as a rich player or a pve player. A unique skin, on the other hand, he will be able to show off with.

To be honest I hope they get some uniquely skinned legendaries that set them apart from the regularly earned PvE ones.

I remember in WoW back when carrying Grand Marshal’s weapons simply commanded respect, both for the owner’s undeniable skill and complete lack of life outside of constantly running Battlegrounds. I was always far more impressed to run into a Grand Marshal in PvP than the countless PvE scrubs with raid boss drops – because gear check don’t stand in goop is soooo hard.

These guys getting their legendaries will have fought every other player to get them, there’s a hard limit to how many will be given out for the tourny and that demands a LOT more than just legendary skins imo.

The tournament Legendaries should shimmer a different color, or have some kind of identifying effect.

If I won the PvP tournie, I know that’s what I would like.

How about instead of letting them choose they get one through a roll of the dice.

Then they can experience the RNG too.

There are no entry requirements for the tournament. Why don’t you shut your trap and enter yourself and earn that legendary?

Yeah. Though so.

I’m not going to enter, but I’ll say these will be the most deserved Legendaries in the game. The winners are the best of the best and have spent countless hours actually using their brain – compared to the ones who have just brainlessly grinded their legendaries in PvE.

I agree. That is why I go after Fractal Weapons. Can’t buy em. Can’t get tokens for em. Have to do Fractals. Can’t sell em either. It’s a great system and one this game needs more of. Earnable rewards are a lost art in this age of F2P.

getting lucky with RNG is not “earning”.

Anet’s huge mistake was making legendary weapons Bind on Equip. The moment they made that decision, they handed control of the entire TP to rich people, exploiters and gold farmers/buyers. With so many illegitimate ways of getting legendaries and gold, the “prestige” doesn’t even exist anymore. Now rewarding free legendaries for playing a few PvP matches is just stupid. I love my Kudzu, but it doesn’t even feel as satisfying as it should. Anet is making the same mistakes as they made in GW1. If they don’t directly interfere, the economy is going to inflate so much that new players will never be able to keep up and obtain their own legendary.

I will tell you a story about how I crafted my Twilight.
I had pretty much all the gifts with the exception of the Gift of Magic and the precursor.
I had approximately 300g saved up and realized that I was not even close to completing the sword when I couldn’t stand the grind because I was bored, I gambled ALL of the 300g into the toilet with the intention of quitting.
I got lucky.
I was very very close to quitting the game permanently but decided to gamble it away.
The point of the story is that Legendary Weapons are a combination of grind and RNG. There is no skill in having one.
There is also little prestige by owning one since they are commonplace.
There is just the fact that there really isn’t much else to do after 1.5 years in GW2 for the people that want to craft one.

If someone gets a Legendary from PVP then remember that the player earned that weapon by 100% more skill than ANY player in the game.
I truly hope they make them unique for that individual.
I am also not a PVP player but I wish them the best.

No thank you. I will not grind any toilet! Your response misses my point of what about PVE. As I mentioned I am fine with PVP having the option to get them but what about a “skill” based change for PVE? GW2 has been mainly a casino for PVE. I want achievements to mean something besides spending real money or something equally unimpressive.

P.S. I HATE RNG
