due to all the circumstances we as players faced since HoT arenanet delivers the expansion for free.

each player can try it out then and can freely buy a number of special expansion-gems in the gemstore based on what each player thinks the expansion is worth.

like if i think its worth 10 bucks i buy 10 expansion gems.
someone who believes its worth 50 bucks buys 50 expansion gems.
someone who thinks arenanet shall get 26 dollars enters to buy 26 expansion gems.

is arenanet self confident enough for such a project?

Too many utterly mean people in the world (and especially in games, from my experience) for that to work.

Some people would happily pay nothing for anything they use, if they could get away with it and feel no guilt, at all.

While, quite possibly, simultaneously expelling the “virtues” of unfettered capitalism and the supposed “evils” of socialism.

Despite the fact they try their utmost to contribute as little as possible to the capitalist economy they pretend to love.

What they actually mean, is that they should be allowed to grow rich, via receiving money from other people for their services, but should have no responsibility to return the favour.

What is the average price for a game expansion? Seems appropriate to me.
I’d strictly pay for what is delivered with the expansion and not promised for a later date.
And the initial delivery has been mediocre at best, so far.

I think it’s funny that this entire thread is completely subjective and yet each person attempts to argue from a position of objectivity, and particularly on what Anet “should” charge for an expansion.

They are going to charge $49.99 for the next expansion, with higher prices for extra stuff. There won’t be a “$20 version”.

Why? Because that’s how much those things sell for – or do you not live in the real world?

mmm, maybe I am crazy but industry standard for an mmo expansion is about $40.

Doesn’t WoW charge more than that?

Plus they have a sub fee.

OK, I spent more real money in the GW2 gemstore in my first year, than I did on my WoW sub in three years, but I bet most people don’t.

I’m pretty sure all expect for one of the most recent WoW expansions were $40, and that one just obliterated the amount of content from previous ones to justify the price difference.

Oh, OK.

I’m British, so I don’t really know what they charge in dollars, but Legion pre-order is £34.99, which is more like $50.

ETA: Just looked it up and it’s $49.99.

Whether it’s going to be worth that, or not, is another matter, obviously.

After WoD I would be pretty sceptical.

Actually, I was pretty sceptical pre-WoD release (it already sounded pretty bad, to me), but I digress…

Guys, you’re talking about $20 expansions, yet almost every lvl 80 player I see IG has infinite gathering tools (that I can see) and probably a salvage-o-mattic, extra bag slots, etc (I can only guess). You’re not willing to pay more than 20 or 30$ for an expansion, yet you’re willing to pay $50 per character to fix something deliberately made frustrating (25 uses salvage kits etc). You get the game and the expac you deserve I guess.

Just want to chime in on this, they could have gotten those endless items by buying Gems with Gold and not actually paid any Real World Cash for them. Where the Expansion requires Real World Cash to Purchase.

But yah, I am with you, $20 for an expansion, is laughable. A decent expansion is an Easy $50, at least.

Not everybody purchases infinite tools with gems, indeed, some purchase gems with with gold instead. But the gems they purchase were sold for gold by other players who used real money to get them, so from Anet’s perspective, it makes no difference: “someone” has paid for those items.

~snip – pricing schemes that don’t include the current expansion~

Speaking for myself, I would like to see expansions include all previous expansions, because I want them to build on each other. If you assume all players have access to, say, gliding, you can continue to use mechanics like that in new maps and gameplay, instead of just leaving it as a one-off mechanic that gets used in Magus Falls and nowhere else.

I’m not saying the new zones need to be littered with bouncing mushrooms, but I think there’s a benefit to knowing what people have access to, up to a point, and being able to utilize all the game mechanics they’ve added so far.

I can’t see the next expansion not requiring HoT. HoT included a lot that the new expansion will be building on, so you really couldn’t play it without HoT.

Not to mention that supporting people who have the new expansion but not HoT involves a lot of work they clearly want to avoid, not to mention potential bugs.

I fully support the new expansion requiring HoT, and it should be coded accordingly.

mmm, maybe I am crazy but industry standard for an mmo expansion is about $40.

Out of curiosity, what MMO’s set that standard? WoW XPacs are $50, and if any MMO can be said to set standards, that would be it. FF14’s was $40, iirc.

While we’re at it, how do you factor sub fees into XPac price? I could buy WoD for $50, but (also iirc), it only offered one month of sub as part of the price. Once one is in their second month, access now cost $65, barring any kind of discount for multiple months. I’m not sure if the FF14 pack even offers a free month. If not, a month playing that XPac actually costs $55. Let’s not forget the “optional” subs that come with games like ToR.

If we look at B2P MMO’s like ESO and TSW, they sell DLC rather than XPacs. If you want to talk standards, compare what $50 gets you there versus what HoT offered. It’s the only reasonable comparison.

My list isn’t really that big.

More armor sets not locked behind meta.
1) 1 set for finishing story
2) 3-4 Basic sets just as drops from mobs (like we used to have in Vanilla)
3) 1-2 Vendor Sets.

Player Housing similar to Guild Halls (for those of us not guilded)

New Elite Professions
GIVE MY ELE SWORD (and make it a cool elite spec, like Elemental Blade Dancer)

I’m saving up for Black Desert Online and a new PC. Many of my guildies went to play that. I also want to play games that I’m going to miss out if I don’t upgrade (Mass Effect 4!!).

The price of new xpack will be 50€/$. You can say 20/30 in this topic, but it means nothing to Anet and it is pretty unrealistic. I think the main reason for so little content is that everything is hand-crafted , no procedural creation. The second reason is outdated engine – every time they add something to the game, some parts get broken.

Since GW2 will always be in my heart but there are so many other games too, I will rather wait and buy new xpack when it is on discount.

WoD was $50. Wrath was $40. Not sure about Cat and MoP. My guess is they upped the XPac price to $50 when regular games went from $50 to $60 some time ago. It’s possible that your “standards” are somewhat dated.

How can we set a fair price on the next expansion when they haven’t fully delivered this one and give every indication that they’re not going to? Let them finish this one, then we’ll talk about the price of the next.

This, time and again.

Plus, their policy on issues are all over the place. The right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing and the customer is smack in the middle of the inconsistencies. AFK pet/minion farming intended (seriously!?), exploiting unintended features during things like SAB because best guess is, it’s not breaking the game economy, so, just turn the other cheek.. I guess and address it …later? Okay. No matter, save ya on those tickets, but others go unanswered/unresolved.. I’ve seen bots, clear botting that I’ve reported. I’ve been playing online games since UO..and played many since then, however, when the response to a bot is essentially say, ‘have at it!’ for now, by ignoring it, I start looking for other games to go enjoy, because that’s a sign to me that the company isn’t wanting to put resources into stopping exploiting, for whatever reason.

Reporting names? Well, There have been naming policy changes you have to keep up on too, outside of the ones listed here. Still, be sure to submit an actual ticket, because anything short of that goes to some void, and even after ticket submission, it still took more time than it should have (and a poor review) for someone to do something about the issues I reported. Plain nasty names, nothing remotely cute or clever. Just gross.

Where is our State of the Game Update —Q2 2016 that we were told to expect start of April with the next state of the game blog? Or, are we going full blown into Spring Quarterly Update blind, with no idea really of what this will entail except the few items vaguely mentioned in this post?

Things feel very scattered and some consolidation of policy, ideas and the product that was already sold to all of us should be secured and properly delivered before dreams of Grandmama Pale Trees come to pass, let alone, a price setting.

No news since October 28th 2014. Question asked straight up! 473 times. 647 days and thread locked..

I felt hot was worth 30 max. It isn’t about the money tbh it’s the fact they thought they could go ahead and charge close to the base game which offered like what 100x more stuff to do.
