Q:

Hello, I am new to guild wars 2 and so far the game has been amazing! But there is one problem i’m having, the main story quests are too hard to complete because they keep increasing in level. I am level 16 and I managed to complete the story quest recommended for 19, but the next is recommended 21 and I cant finish it. I am having alot of trouble with the residents for the same reason. I’ve heard there are side quests but I haven’t been able to find any of them. Can someone help? Thanks for reading, if you can’t help its ok. Have a wonderful day!

you aren’t neccessarily meant to just go from main story to main story, you should be doing heart quests, dynamic quests, crafting, exploring, etc as well.

Try doing some events, explore the map and run some of the “NPC Tasks” or also known as “Renown Heart” until you get to the recommended level for the next part of the storyline. If you can’t find them look for the scouts in your map, usually designated by the spyglass symbol and they’ll guide you to them. You also get some nice bonuses such as karma, masterwork gear and black lion keys for completing the map which involves exploring all points of interest, vistas and completing the NPC tasks. If you open your map you should see be able to see your progress.

Also if you find yourself unable to cope with the mobs, try updating your gear and look for gear that emphasizes on “power”.

If you’ve run out of areas to complete, you could also head over to the other faction starting areas which you can access using the Asura Gates that you may find at either your faction city, Lion’s Arch or Vigil Keep in Genderran Field. Look for the areas on your map defined by the recommended level.

This.

You said yourself, the next story objective is for a higher level — and sometimes you can get away with it, but some are just harder than others. I’d suggest just waiting for now, and exploring the map, doing the renown hearts, and keeping your gear at a respectable level (even if you don’t want to craft, keep in mind that the renown heart NPCs will sometimes sell gear).

Also, if you have some friends/guildies online, they can join your party and help you with your story quests.

The Personal Story is the closest thing this game has for a traditional “lead you by the nose” quest chain. But the game is really built around wandering about in zones your level or below and do Renown Heart quests or stumbling onto Dynamic Events going on within the zone. It’s sandbox like that way.
