Most “top” pvpers already macros jump and dodge anyways so I doubt it matters.

Or….. we side thumb down the space bar and the “v” key together.

The most demand for a macro is for opening inventory item stacks. Which can simply be achieved by associating the left click to the scroll wheel. So one tick of the wheel equals one left click.

That’s not a macro… that’s just a keybind………………………………………………………..

A keybind would be tying “jump” to the mouse wheel, done within the game. Changing the scroll wheel to register as a click instead of it’s default scroll is a firmware (sometimes) change on the mouse itself. Semantics maybe, but it’s essentially a macro still- the scroll has the effect of 1 press, 1 action.

“Rotational” macros (or whatever you want to call them), is still a gray area. Use at own risk.

It can be done within keybinds.. a 1-1 IS NOT A MACRO.

a macro is 1 button used to perform simultaneous functions within 1 press, such as a series of commands, or a script

Using 1 button to simulate another button again, is not a macro.

mac·ro
?makr?/
noun
noun: macro; plural noun: macros; noun: macro instruction; plural noun: macro instructions; plural noun: macros instruction

1.
Computing
a single instruction that expands automatically into a set of instructions to perform a particular task.

Macros are used to make a sequence of computing instructions available to the programmer as a single program statement, making the programming task less tedious and less error-prone.12 (Thus, they are called “macros” because a big block of code can be expanded from a small sequence of characters.)

Please don’t be an ultracrepidarian.

Macros also refer to things CAN be sequenced which is why pve roation is a grey area.

this is why i stated macros are advantageous when using instant casts.

Macros involving spells with a cast timer, technically can be recorded including the space between the timed cast, however this takes more effort and would definitely be a part of the “scripting/botting” part where you literally don’t press anything.

Most other macros still require you to use multiple presses and combinations etc, but like others have sed, macros don’t make a bad player efficient .

The other argument is that macros may add an advantage, but it is a LEVEL ADVANTAGE to EVERYONE

Macros will not make a good player play poorly, just as they will not make a inexperienced player play better.

Most people who seem to be “better” with macros are already better than the other players.

I get why this should and shouldn’t happen on both sides but we need to flesh it out more.

I have been playing MMO’s since DAoC.

Macro and scripts for that matter are utterly undetectable, and even scripts that read from RAM are undetectable (the mod that lets you see what gear people in your party are wearing for instance, which caused a gigantic kittenstorm on reddit).

If the devs create a game that can be exploited by simple macros and scripts that mimic keyboard input, or information that can be pulled from RAM. Then the fault lies in the game design itself, and not the players.

Devs can say “1 button 1 action” all they want, but they will never be able to enforce it, UNLESS they design a solid game that isn’t exploited by a simple macro.

Just remember though if you do use a macro to get ahead in PvP or to clear “competitive” bleeding edge PvE content, that you are scum.
