Yes, they did increase DR. But there was always DR. Players complained about DR period. Mo took it away completely. No DR at all. Therefore: Listened to players.

Players have complained about DR from day one of it’s implementation, in other words for YEARS, and they had the audacity to increase it instead.

But hey they finally took it away in this one zone and all is well, and not because of complaints of this halloween event overall, so yeah halloween saved!

Tekey.7946 you earn a +1 from me, but don’t expect a lot around here to agree, because shiny*.

Some people will find something hateful even in the nicest of gestures. It is just sad that you want to tell the rest of us not to be nice for something we are grateful for.

Yes, they did increase DR. But there was always DR. Players complained about DR period.

You have to look at it as a whole: You yourself said that people always complained about DR. And nonetheless they increased it this year?

I have seen the occasional concern about no new content, but have never seen anyone complaining about no new story. Just you. Most people want to farm the Lab. They do. Mo made it better. Life is good.

People were complaining that there are still less events compared to the first Halloween. Then, they were disappointed that they didn’t even care to continue the story. They just wanted to see anything new but that didn’t happen last year, it didn’t happen this year and it won’t happen next year because Anet is busy working on the next expansion. Again.

It is nice to see people being nice to Anet and Mo for a change. Please do not ask people to be hateful and mean where and when there is simply no cause to do so.

Anet increased the thing everyone hated. After seeing tons of raging players, they decided to remove it to calm them down.
I’d take it for granted to deal with your own mistakes.

“Audacity”? LOL If the devs caved to all the complaints and demands of the community, the game would just be toons standing still in L.A. watching gold, mats, and precursors scrolling as they were automatically dumped into your endless bags and bank inventory.

As has been said by devs and many others, DR exists to regulate the economy. Even with the original DR in the lab, it was a huge, quick gold generator. Probably the largest the game offers. So yes, those in charge probably thought increasing the DR in the lab was called for. Mo did not. In fact, as he said, this only happens once a year and they want it to be fun so he took away the DR altogether in the lab. It doesn’t mean that DR has no place in the game as a whole.

It doesn’t matter if players don’t like DR, it is there for a reason in the rest of the world. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean that it isn’t good for the game.

The map feels so slow with the doors taking forever to spawn. You can of course work around this by keeping track of and hopping to several maps.

Nerf the doors that spawn waves by changing their scaling to spawn elites instead of like 4x the amount of regular enemies, then make the doors spawn twice as fast. Alternatively, throw in a meta to close all the doors, which would spawn the old boss in middle, which killing would reset or greatly reduce the cooldown on the doors.

The amount of people that have never had a basics economics course is so evident in this thread and in game.

Increased DR = increased supply, increased supply = less demand = lower overall prices

They didn’t up DR as a “kind” gesture, they did it to kill the ToT money making market. These effects will certainly be seen over the off season where ToT bags can no longer climb in price before next Halloween because there will be a large enough supply that ToT prices will likely continue to be steady. Anyone who knows how to make money knows, dumping supply in the late off season produces the most money, as opposed to dumping it now while supply still exists. Most people don’t think about it long enough to care, but DR has kept several TP markets afloat and profitable for years, when you let large supplies flood the market, it just means less profitability over time.

At some point in time, prices will bottom and you will be making the same amount of money for selling more product, instead of the exact opposite. For those that sit in their basement, google oil market and WSJ, and then look at why it was a major deal for OPEC to put a cap (GW2 Version, DR) on production.

If DR is not cool then why is it in the game at all let along being so punishing. Is it cool that its so punishing in the HOT maps just for example?

It is nice to see people being nice to Anet and Mo for a change. Please do not ask people to be hateful and mean where and when there is simply no cause to do so.

I’m, saying its inconsistent and even hypocritical. If DR is not cool and was removed from Mad King as a result then the same should apply across the game.

The rest of the game isn’t limited to two weeks to get the mats desired for special limited time available items. There’s where the “not cool” came in.

DR is intended to be a safety net and something you’re not intended to encounter through normal play. For example, that exploit where enemies respawned instantly, DR was the only thing stopping prolonged abuse.

The labyrinth isn’t harder, now, only slower. the bosses aren’t threatening. And if the bosses aren’t threatening, you can give them 1hp or 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,456,000,000hp, it won’t matter. It just takes longer to kill them, not more effort/skill

I don’t recall there being an abundance of players asking for new Halloween content.

I farmed Lab for awhile in Guard and ran into no DR issues. Maybe XP from events dropped a bit but I was gaining loot near the end at the same rate that I was when I started. Do you have a source that they had increased DR?

You’re upset that an MMO has content gaps between expansions and other releases? Can you name an MMO that continuously releases content updates, along with expansions, that satisfy players need for continuous new content?

People weren’t upset because it’s the same events since years but there’s even less than it used to be. They didn’t continue the story and cut other events we had.

To the DR: Please, read through the threads.

To the expansions:
We’ve missed out on lots of content because they developed HoT. Actually, they never stopped working on HoT in order to deliver the content they promised at release. Again, putting everything else aside.

And now they’re already working on the next expansion?

I read through the handful of threads between here and Reddit and I wouldn’t call it a “huge ****storm”. Just some players complaining about something which is no different than anything else. I guess those could be “huge ****storms” too. It just sounds exaggerated.

i get that you want content updates every two weeks like before, or something like that, but it won’t happen as I guess there were enough players that wanted e passions that Anet found themselves having to make them. Besides, most of the content releases were just achievement grinds.

Ive noticed suddenly groups skipping the bosses entirely since they were being buffed, with players claiming they are too slow vs the rate of gain for bags.

Theres a certain guild… made up of players with huge amounts of gold… that like to artificially tighten markets by buying up all supply for items that Anet has regulated via DR/salvage rate to keep the increase steady. And then keeping the price artifically high with huge buy orders at a positive RoI percentage, canceling those buy orders instantly when supply starts to overwhelm that barrier.

Basically, they take JS attempts at regulating the economy to keep it healthy, and turn it into insane profits.

Id rather have a flooded market, than THAT.

So, while I agree with you on the basic level… I cant fault Anet for the change at all. Good so Anet, more of that please.

As to DR increase before Halloween release. Are you sure Anet really increased DR? Is there are a source for that statement other than hear-say?
What I noticed was, that due to the powercreep from HoT release, mobs got killed roughly twice as fast than last halloween. Triggering DR faster. The per-mob DR didnt change imo.

I love Anet for this update. It shows that they listen to complaints, but dont jump to requests immediatly. I love this change not so much because now I can farm Laby all day long, rather I can farm it when I want to, for how long I want to.
Before the removal of DR, my time spent in GW2 felt very restrictive, due to having to stop farming Laby and then un-DRing my character for next Laby session.

They could force players to kill those bosses by keeping doors from spawning when a certain amount is active.

But tbh, even with a mediocre map, killing bosses is still fast enough.

Indeed. I’m sure Anet did some, “bags/minute”, calculations somewhere.

Nobody at Anet loves WvW like Grouch loved PvP. That’s what we need, a WvW Grouch, but taller.

I agree with the “it’s made them more tedious” viewpoint.

The zerg batters away at the boss, folks go down, get revived and ultimately the boss dies. It just takes longer to get the same stuff. I’m not sure it’s an improvement. It’s a common theme in HoT too.

When was the last time you saw a total player wipe at a boss?

Since HoT release, Halloween and Wintersday have become events of mindless grinding and farming. There is no skill, no challenge, just time wasted by doing same thing over and over again, for minutes, for hours, for days and weeks, just to get a mini reward at the end of event.

Probably it’s fun for some people, but I shall pass; just like I did on Wintersday 2015 snowflakes shoulders and Halloween 2015 bats shoulders. I personally like dynamic events, and not grinding things by doing the same thing repeatedly for hours and hours.

He’s still not hard and what players fail to realize is champ bags give at least 5 HoT bags.

If the door spawn timing was such that there’s always a door available then I can see skipping less efficient doors (like the two three doors that spawn a single vet — very little reward there). Given that there is “down time” where general mob farming is pursued, skipping Viscount doesn’t seem that efficient.

Part of me thinks that someone in ANet was thinking “hey, wanna see something funny? Watch this…”

I’d rather play to enjoy the challenge of the content than farm an area as efficiently as possible. To me, the former is enjoying the game, while the latter is working from home.

Folks are aware of his reward. I have not made a scientific study of the relative efficiencies – I’m just amused that there is an emerging culture of running past him because he “only gives 5 bags”. I make sure I tag him on the way past, just in case a “rival” farming squad decide to kill him. Maybe there will be a big fat chest waiting for me on the next lap hehe.

My main point is Viscount doesn’t need a reward buff because he is already rewarding. Players are skipping him for other reasons (I postulated lack of knowledge on the champ bag rewards, but others have said it’s simply not fun).

The labby is already very rewarding with the elimination of DR.

The viscount is too long for his rewards. You can get more stuff by skipping him and killing regular mobs for the time you would have been fighting him. So efficiency causes people to skip him.

Hi all,

You’ve probably noticed that the champions in the labyrinth haven’t felt as challenging this year as they did in previous years. The only actual change to them was a bug fix to the lich to keep him from summoning unlimited minions at high event scaling. But they all felt easier because they hadn’t kept up with the power growth of the player base. We gave them all quick buffs today.

Additionally, with this map being as profitable as it is, a lot of players have started triggering diminishing rewards. That’s just not cool. So we disabled diminishing rewards on this map.

Mo

Thank you!

I didn’t, personally, see where any Dev, Mike included, said that DR was increased in the Labyrinth.

Regardless, my account still encounters it every time I enter the Labyrinth, no matter how much time has passed, which character I use, or whether that character (or any other) has gone off and done other content. That, or some doors just don’t give the full amount of XP, Karma and Gold.
