These are the reasons I made the topic:

  • It’s often not possible to see if a projectile is getting reflected or destroyed, especially in WvW.

It probably also has something to do with low video settings, but that shouldn’t be a factor. So, a “Reflected” and a “Destroyed” message for projectiles would be great. Like currently “Evaded”, “Blocked” and “Obstructed” messages pop up. This would go a long way in keeping reflect/destroy an enjoyable game feature for everyone.

  • The game is very clunky in stopping attacking with the esc key. It’s used for many things. Including dropping a target and opening the game menu.

The “stow weapon” key bind turns out to be a solution, so I guess this part is already solved. A seperate “stop attack” key bind would still be welcome, since that’s what players would be looking for.

  • Changing reflect into destroy would help PvE encounters

It wouldn’t only help players from hitting themselves without knowing (see point 1), it would also help AI, who aren’t programmed to be able to know.

So since point 2 is already solved I have 1 request left. To get a popup message when a projectile is reflected or destroyed.

The first one is a serious l2p issue. While I agree that reflect needs to be introduced with something like a tutorial (similar to dodging), it doesn’t need any further notifications, nor does it need to be changed into destroy.

The second part would still be better solved by adjusting the AI. Make mobs recognise reflects or at least stop shooting if they are hit by their own projectiles.

Also about the pop-up…

You’ve clearly not read what I wrote.

  • It’s not a l2p issue if I can’t see when stuff is getting reflected or destroyed. It’s a video settings issue in WvW, nothing else.
  • I said popup as in “Evaded”, “Obstructed” and “Blocked” which we already get.

This I can agree on, when you press escape it should just stop attacking full stop, however I do feel that reflect is good counter play and should remain the way it is currently.

From what I understood that last part referred to PvE and was about players attacking themselves because a mob has reflect up.

The part about WvW is something entirely different. The main problem in WvW is that in zergfights effects are so cluttered that it’s impossible to tell wether a projectile was reflected, destroyed or if the projectile hitting me is my own or someone else’s. I agree that we need some kind of effect-notification for that. But please no popup message, it’s tiresome to click them away.

Only thing i can agree on is there should be a way to tell if feedback is friendly or enemy

…there haven’t been many good points made.

I didn’t see a compelling argument in the original post (nor in the OP’s responses) that makes me think that ANet should consider the idea.

As I understand, the main argument has been “I would personally like it better,” rather than “here’s why the game would be better.”

John Smith: “you should kill monsters, because killing monsters is awesome.”

In WvW Wall of Reflection lasts a full 10 seconds (12 seconds traited). That’s a very long wait.

If it destroyed projectiles, it would still be powerful, it just wouldn’t be this overpowered against all projectiles.

But it’s not overpowered. You stop shooting either way, right? If you senseless shoot into a thief smoke screen, then yes, ofc you’ll run into issues against reflects. Don’t do that. Wasting CDs in any case, and not getting HP regen.

The reason reflects exist is because without them, ranged is heavily advantaged compared to melee in zerg situations. Hence a few non-target-count-limited reflects exist, such as Wall of Reflection, Mirror or Feedback. These make sure that ranged combat, while still dominating, isn’t as dominating as it could be otherwise, and that melee combat has its place.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

Let’s just stop giving thoughts into this topic please. The original post isn’t “thought”, it does not deserve thoughts. Obviously we have someone here hate being countered, and don’t like to be bothered moving from his shooting spot or learn to adapt with environment. I don’t see melees complaining how they had to to go through tons of counter measures like blocks, cripple, chill, pushback, blind, retaliation etc… all of which are easily applicable to a melee attacker compared to someone with 1500 range. If there were such a thing as " the top of the food chain", you have to skill your way to it, not campaigning to eliminate natural enemies. While it’s true the game lacks some indications to distinguish friends or foes’ skills, but that’s merely oversight issue Anet should deal with specifically, and that alone shouldn’t amount to elimination of one of game’s whole mechanics. Let’s spend our time discuss with other outstanding issues instead of things like these threads that lead to nowhere.

If ya no longer see me after this post,
it means THEY got me for " neg criticism in clever disguise".
Know that it has been fun and I love ya all.

The same goes for when you rapid fire us, we don’t see the projectiles, but we notice our health bar dropping and your animations.. That point you made was completely useless because you’re asking other players to pay less attention than you.

I said popup as in “Evaded”, “Obstructed” and “Blocked” which we already get. —-———- The game should have this for reflected, yes. I guess the way people play this game is different from person to person, some use a mouse to turn, others use key board. Some use buttons to attack, others click. Some have to rely on the game telling them what happened while others know the mechanics well enough not to need it

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.

Camera Turn + tap Lock Autotarget + Stop Autoattack on Target Change = stop attacking anything using a ranged weapon.

As a thief/ranger dual main, this is a L2P problem. If it’s a graphics problem, lower your settings. If it’s still a graphics problem, you’re probably running below minimum specs and should upgrade your PC, or are running with a blob too big and should stop blobbing so much if your PC can’t handle it.

If you see someone throw up reflect, I dunno maybe switch to melee and/or stop shooting for like 5 secs?

Melee and positioning, to counter reflect, are exploits and subject to permaban… :/

I’m not sure about changing current reflects into destroys, but destroys are an interesting mechanic. Would make a nice addition or even a nice double sided trait – double skill duration, degrade reflect to destroy.
